Hello and welcome to Homenum Revelio! If you're making your 1st character, or even your 21st, here's a good place to go to get you started on the forum. You should also have a welcome PM in your inbox that gives you a condensed version!
1. The first thing to do is definitely to read the site rules, which can be found in the menu at the top of the forum, or simply by clicking the link here. We don't have a whole ton of them, but it's important to read through the whole thing so that we can keep our community running as well and as happily as possible! In addition, reading through the rules helps to streamline your character application process and makes it less likely that we will ask you to change things in your application.
2. Now that you've read the rules, take a peek at the site plot and the site timeline to see what's going on in the world of Homenum Revelio. These can be found in the header of any board. Both of these are necessary to look at to make sure that your character fits into the world we've built here! The site timeline is a bit long, but there is a condensed version to read if you do find it so. (However, we recommend reading the longer one when you've got a chance, it's a good read!)
3. If you've at least read those three things, you're welcome to make your character! To do so, head over to the Sorting Hat. To make an application, click on the "create thread" button and the form will appear for you. Each field must be filled out to apply! If you can't finish the application in one go, or you want more time to think about pieces of it, you're welcome to post it as a Work In Progress. You can change pieces about the character until the character is Sorted, at which point those details become final.
4. While creating your application, there are many resources you can browse to add detail. Many of these can be found in The Library category, where spell lists, magical abilities, creature information, and more can be found. Take a look here if you'd like!
5. When you're done with the application, one or more Founder will read it over and Sort the character. The character could be perfect on the first go, or it might need some tweaking to fit with the site plot, but the Founders will do their best to make it painless and help get your character writing as soon as possible! Don't worry if there is something you need to fix. Everyone makes mistakes, and it's very rare that a character will be denied entirely.
6. Once you're Sorted, there are all sorts of possibilities! Register for character extras, try a challenge, make new friends, or just start writing! The forum is your oyster. We can't wait to start writing with you and see what you've got to offer!
If at any point you have any questions or concerns, you can either PM a Founder (any of the four!) or post a question in the Questions board. Either way, we're always ready to help out!
