| May 3: After the battle of Hogwarts, the Order meets in the castle to discuss their situation. Voldemort has been vanquished, but there remains the problem of the Ministry and the last Death Eaters. May 10: A week after the battle and assisting with cleaning up Hogwarts - as well as mourning - the Order stormed Grimmauld Place, taking it back from the Death Eaters whom Yaxley had brought and rebuilding the wards (all to the accompaniment of Mrs Black's screams). May 19-23: After much planning, mourning, and arguing, the Order begins to reach out to the Ministry, sounding out who's on what side and who can be persuaded to assist them. The Wizengamot, despite many of their number losing their lives in the dictatorship just prior, are reluctant to allow an Emergency Minister to replace Pius Thicknesse as it defies tradition, and take some time to convince. May 25: When the Ministry, still struggling with Death Eater entanglements, does nothing about the loss of a small group of young people in a Death Eater attack on Hogsmeade - Cho Chang among their number - the Order determined that they couldn't waste any more time. Gathering their allies, their coup in the Ministry was swift and decisive, dispelling the remainder of the obvious Death Eaters and their allies. Kingsley Shacklebolt is nominated, almost unanimously, as the Emergency Minister. May 26 - June 23: Almost a month later, the Ministry is mainly held by Kingsley, the Order, and those who are not Order members but have similar aims to that faction. The Wizengamot, re-formed, has not added any new members, and continues to be a stick in the mud, though a few Order members (read: Hermione) have pushed them into aligning with the better party. There may be a few Death Eater sympathizers remaining, but they keep quiet. These culminate in an uneasy peace. The Wizarding world celebrates on the day that Kingsley officially becomes Minister, even though there's still a lot of work to do. July: Trials of captured Death Eaters and sympathizers occur. There are some victories - the deserving punished, the innocent saved - and there are some failures. A few walk free who shouldn't have, and an even fewer are imprisoned wrongly. Those who witness these trials dig in their heels, roll up their sleeves, and start wading through paperwork and dusty old tomes to try and right the failing system. August: Championed by Quidditch fans, the Quidditch World Cup final is pulled off. The British nations make a surprisingly good showing despite the fact that their training for the past year had been interrupted by national turmoil. In the final, Malawi wins over Senegal. September: Hogwarts reopens in the fall. Many people volunteer to deliver Hogwarts letters, and though students are accepted late due to missing or censored databases, everyone makes it there in the end. The previous years, including the Golden Trio's year, are invited back and a temporary curriculum is created to bridge the gap. McGonagall steps up as Headmistress. December: On the winter solstice, three Death Eaters march into the Ministry and surrender. Nobody knows why. On New Years' Eve, a small party of Death Eaters attacks - presumably to prevent the others from talking - but are (barely) rebuffed. Among the group that are captured are Yaxley, Rookwood, and Marcus Flint. The Order rings in the New Year in St Mungo's, around a couple hospital beds. |
| January: Fenrir Greyback, who had fled into the wilderness of Scotland to hide, returns. The Order is alerted to this fact because there is suddenly an increase in werewolf attacks - Fenrir Greyback rallying his counterparts to join up with the Death Eaters and make the rest of society pay. February: A small party of Death Eaters rises, along with Fenrir Greyback, for the full moon - in Muggle London. Almost all of the DMLE and the Order mobilizes to minimize the damage. In the process, Kingsley is injured, and spends most of the month in the hospital, trying to recover. During this turmoil, the Wizengamot convenes to elect new members. Those who are not nominated are magically barred from entry. Kingsley returns to office to a very frazzled group of loyal workers and a Wizengamot making demands about their powers in governance. Led by Sloane Whithall, they claim that, to prevent future coups from gaining traction, the Wizengamot should be granted emergency powers. The loyal government researches how to fire the Wizengamot. April: The (mainly Hermione-run) crusade to keep the Wizengamot from seizing more power is put off due to a rash of fires - both magical and non - in Diagon Alley. The Ministry and the Order race against the clock to find the culprit. The Order, unfortunately, suffers losses. Percy Weasley is lost saving Fred and George from the fires at WWW, and Hestia Jones in the Fiendfyre aimed at Gringotts. However, Gringotts - and its goblins - are saved, and in the aftermath the goblins declare that they support an Order-run government in gratitude. The Wizengamot retreats in the face of this (after all, they'd like to be able to access their bank accounts)... for now. The Order mourns. May: On the first anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, a memorial gathering is held at the Burrow. There are a few words said, but it is mainly to celebrate life rather than to mourn. The younger members of the Order agree that it's time for them to start their own career paths, so they can build a slightly more normal life - even though they still plan on assisting the Order in every way they can. July: Neville, Luna, and a few others get themselves sent to the hospital by a minor attack at King's Cross - just in time for Neville's birthday. As many former DA members as can be gathered spend July 30-31 in the hospital to celebrate, much to the chagrin of the Healers. October: A group of young Slytherins are taunted in Diagon Alley. Later in the week, these last bastions of Pureblood houses issue a public apology for their actions during the war and a request for understanding. The Quibbler publishes the apology in full, but the Prophet and Witch Weekly do some... editing. November: Those young Slytherins who still have property find themselves attacked in a series of home invasions. Sending a group of them to St. Mungo's with a range of injuries ... and setting Malfoy Manor ablaze. The Dark Mark is set above the Manor. Narcissa and Draco Malfoy, some of the other Slytherin orphans of war that were staying there, and their remaining house elves, manage to escape just in time and are treated, though cannot save the Manor. Molly Weasley and the Order extends to them an invitation to stay (though not promising that Hermione will not try to free their elves). December: At Hogwarts, members of Slytherin house are victim to a series of increasingly unfortunate pranks. Originally, it is dismissed, as when Slytherins discover the culprits, they give as good as they got. Just prior to winter break at Hogwarts, Slytherin House is "pranked" with sleeping solution in their food. Thankfully, everyone is well enough to go home for Winter Break. |
| January: After winter break, anti-Slytherin sentiments which have been brewing at Hogwarts come to a head when the Slytherin Quidditch practice is attacked with charmed birds, resulting in all of them requiring the Hospital wing. The Headmistress of Hogwarts calls a Hogwarts meeting and announces that it has to be put to a stop. To assist in rebuilding inter-house unity, she announces a series of Inter-House tournaments, including Quidditch and various academic challenges, with the stipulation that all teams must have at least 1 member from each House. February: After the Headmistress herself grabs a few repeat offenders by the ears and drags them to her office, the inter-house unity tournaments manage to take off without major incident. May: The Weasley Kings (headed by the Slytherin captain), after much battle, win the Quidditch tournament. The Quiz champions are (to nobody's surprise) Granger Danger. McGonagall celebrates a successful attempt at House Unity and decides to make the interhouse tournaments a yearly event. Harry celebrates having ammunition to tease the other 2/3 of the Golden Trio about. July: On the day that Harry is celebrating surviving his teenage years, the Knight Bus is hijacked by a mixed party of hags, werewolves and Death Eaters. The DMLE has a hostage situation on their hands. Harry, now an Auror in Training, is heard to loudly ask when he'll have a normal birthday before the hostages were liberated from the bus and the criminals rounded up. There are few casualties, possibly because the rescuers are anxious to get back to their cake. November: After a long battle, the Ministry finally decrees that the use of Dementors is inhumane. Azkaban is now staffed with guards, both wizard and security troll, and the protections adjusted accordingly. The Prophet releases an article rife with scare tactics, and people protest inside the Ministry. December: The Burrow hosts Christmas, and not only invites the entire Order, but also many of the younger Slytherin alumni. It is crammed to the seams and guarded heavily by security, but turns out to be a wonderful Christmas. Somehow, everyone gets a Weasley sweater, or at least a hat. A massive photo is taken of all the people around, with everyone smiling. On Boxing Day, the DMLE will have to deal with a rash of cursed Muggle items spreading around London, but Christmas day is - for once - quiet. Fred and George blow up one of the Flutterby Bushes in the yard with fireworks to make up for the lack of disruption. |
| February: On the 5th of February, there is a riot inside Azkaban after a prisoner receives a Howler from an anonymous Death Eater. Two guards are sent to permanent care at St. Mungo's, along with one prisoner. A couple Death Eaters, namely Alecto Carrow and Yaxley, escape. The DMLE is working night and day to find them again while the Wizengamot starts to mutter about emergency powers once more. March: March is full of Death Eater attacks in quick succession - minor hits all over the country. There is also an attack in France, sparking a near - international incident as both countries try to work out what is going in. The French Dark Mark is determined to be a mimic, though the March attacks in Britain are very real. The DMLE gets very little sleep. April: On April 1st, Alecto Carrow makes an appearance during a Hogsmeade visit. Horace Slughorn, roped into supervising the visit, bravely takes her on in a duel to buy time for the students to flee and the cavalry to arrive. Unfortunately, his heart succumbs to the strain of repeated Cruciatus curse. He is hailed a hero and Alecto Carrow, after a lengthy trial, is returned to Azkaban to await execution. The DMLE discovers a small group of escapees nearby the attack, hiding in the Mountainous region. Yaxley remains at large. May: Britain, Bulgaria and France enter discussion over whether a Triwizard Tournament may ever be reasonably attempted again. They come to the conclusion that, with adjustment, another Triwizard Tournament could be attempted in the future. All three Magical Ministries resolve to work together on the matter, and possibly extend the invitation to other countries. The second annual inter-house tournaments are won by The Long Bottoms (Quidditch) and, once more, Granger Danger (Quiz). Of course. July: In the third week of July, Yaxley is discovered - not in a Death Eater attack, but in the Shrieking Shack, looking rather mauled. There is wild speculation as to how he wound up nearly dead in Hogsmeade, but Yaxley remains comatose and unable to answer that question. A week later, Dementors appear in Hogsmeade. Before the cavalry arrives, 3 people are Kissed - including Madam Rosmerta. The Aurors scour Hogsmeade and the surrounding region for Death Eaters and their allies, but only turn up a small bevy of Hags. September: The Hogwarts Express breaks down. Everyone panics. Oddly enough, it appears to be nothing but a malfunction in the engine room. October: Hagrid has a run-in with the Centaur herd, which tells him that there are some 'moonbeasts' living in the Forest. A party of Aurors is dispatched to investigate, and discovers what appears to be an old camp of some sort. One Auror discovers a vial of what used to be wolfsbane. Students are doubly warned against going in the Forest while the DMLE searches it inch by inch. When the werewolves are finally found, they are shown to be victims of Greyback - though the man himself is no longer around. The werewolves are relocated and given help. McGonagall gets a visit from the Board of Education (who say that the Wizengamot is 'concerned') and promptly escorts them out of the castle before sending a Howler to their office. They don't try to visit again. December: Hogwarts' student council holds a Yule Ball. All four Houses compete (in a friendly manner) to decorate the Great Hall best. McGonagall finds this blissfully mundane, though Filch gets rather tired of cleaning up the mess. |
| May: The Third Annual Interhouse Tournament is a roaring success. The winning teams are "Twin Terrors" (Quidditch) and "Minerva's Spectacles" (Quiz). McGonagall is seen to flush bright pink and mumble something about inappropriate address. July: Harry's birthday passes without incident. It is proclaimed a minor miracle. August:The Quidditch World Cup is held in Portugal. The two teams that make it are Bulgaria (to nobody's surprise) and Japan. Viktor Krum is, unfortunately, knocked out with a Bludger before he can catch the snitch, and Japan takes the title. Viktor Krum takes a leave of absence. October: It is discovered that the Bludger was hexed by Viktor Krum's reserve player. The Cup is not reassigned, but Japan and Bulgaria play a friendly scrimmage match which Bulgaria wins. Krum re-joins the team. November: A few Death Eater encounters occur, though mainly in smaller villages and hamlets around Britain. The Auror office is filled with maps, trying to discover a pattern. The Obliviators have quite a chore tidying up, as Muggle involvement in these encounters is increasing. Yaxley finally wakes up from his coma, and tries to cut a deal with the Wizengamot for a shorter sentence. Hermione digs up a bit of law that won't allow for his retrial and sends him back to Azkaban, even though he hints heavily at new allies. December: A newly made vampire attacks Christmas shoppers in Hogsmeade. There are two victims - one is turned into a vampire and 'survives', while the other does not. The newly made vampire, before being executed, names a known vampire in league with the remaining few Death Eaters as its sire. The Prophet has a field day. |
| January: The Wizengamot declares that they are bound by law and ancient magic to 'elect' a new Minister for Magic, thus forcing Kingsley out of his decision. They convene behind closed doors and return with a single nomination: Margaret Bennet. They step up as Minister for Magic on January 31st, declaring they will usher in a new era of peace for wizardkind. February: There are no Death Eater attacks during this month, though on the full moon several werewolf attacks occur throughout the country. Numerous wizards are rushed to treatment, as well as a few muggles. The Minister issues a public statement of sympathy to the injured parties. March: Prior to the full moon, a 'how to protect yourself from werewolves' pamphlet is released by the Ministry. Only a single attack is recorded, and the werewolf is captured and killed. The identity of the werewolf is not released. May: Molly Weasley gets her first grandchild via Bill and Fleur - Victoire Weasley. Two days later, the Minister announces that new policies to "regulate and rebuff" Death Eater activity will be revealed in July if they pass through the Wizengamot. June: The Wizengamot announce that their legislation will be postponed as it is still under negotiation. Julius Stark, Chief Warlock, and a few of his supporters do not agree with it, and so they will not budge. Meanwhile, murmurs of Death Eater activity and the return of a key player to government surfaces... July: On July 12, the London Eye is attacked by Death Eaters. Aurors and Order members converge on the scene, doing their utmost to save as many as they can before it topples. At the same time an attempt is made on the life Julius Stark, though it is interrupted. St. Mungo's is filled with the wounded, including an Obliviated and shell-shocked Stark. The London Eye attack is largely covered up, though some Muggles may have slipped through the net. Two days later, St. Mungo's is attacked and this time Stark is killed. The wizarding world is left reeling. August: Werewolves, some cognizant of what they are doing, plan and execute an attack on the village of Godric's Hollow with the assistance of mysterious benefactors. Many are left dead. Days later, in a Back to School event, Dementors descend upon the crowd. In Belgium, around the same time, vampires attack a nightclub. In light of all these events, the Ministry holds a gala to release their new legislation surrounding Death Eaters and Dark creatures, the fancy setting throwing a veil over the turmoil that has gripped the nation. |
