7. Character guidelines
- First and foremost, be nice to one another. Disagreements are to be settled in a civilized manner. Hate speech of any kind will not be tolerated.
- Respect the decisions of others. Bullying and coercion are not allowed.
- The only individuals who have authority to police people are the administrative staff/Founders.
- Proboards rules states that users of their services must be 13+ years of age.
2. Advertising Guidelines
- Advertising is only accepted on the appropriate Advertising board. No links to other roleplaying sites are allowed in posts, profiles, or the shoutbox.
- We do not allow advertising from sites with mature content.
- Due to varying content rules from different platforms, we will only accept ads from Proboards-hosted websites.
3. Content guidelines
- Proboards is a PG-13 host. Pornographic, racist, or excessively violent content, as well as content that glamorizes the use of illegal substances, is not allowed, as per the Proboards community guidelines here (X). If you're not sure about what you're going to post, ask. You will get 2 warnings before the administration takes more serious action, e.g. banning.
- Mentions of darker content can reasonably be referenced in your character application. However, many of those things are not allowed in role play. For example, a brief mention of a suicide in a character history will be tolerated (providing it is tasteful, necessary to the plot, and not graphic), but role playing a suicide is against the rules. Child abuse, underage sexual content, graphic sexual content, self harm, drug abuse, and gore is never okay to post. Again, if you're not sure, ask.
4. Posting guidelines
- All in-character replies must contain at least 100 words each.
- All posts must be in third-person, past tense.
- One character per account, please! If you want to make a new character, please register a new username (if you have trouble with this, ask a friendly moderator!)
- When tagging other people, please only do so if your character is addressing them or doing an action which requires their attention. The general rule of thumb: if your character is actually directly interacting with another character, tag away. If they are not interacting with the character, just typing their name should suffice. Also, please do not re-tag people in a thread they are participating in unless the situation warrants.
- Content and characters should be believable and reasonable. Instances of god-modding (controlling the characters of other people through your post) and Mary Sues (all-powerful characters with no flaws or weaknesses) will be watched for and moderated.
- Student characters may post in Hogsmeade ONLY on the weekends. They may only post in other out-of-Hogwarts locations when school is NOT in session. Students allowed in Hogsmeade are 3rd year and up, as in canon.
- Adult characters that do not work at Hogwarts must receive admin permission before posting in Hogwarts.
5. Image guidelines
- Signatures should be no bigger than 500x200, and avatars no bigger than 150x150.
- Images should also adhere to PG-13 content guidelines.
6. Activity guidelines
- All characters should have at least one in-character post every month, preferably in an active thread. This means that a character cannot just start an open thread every time they are in danger and claim they have been active. Extenuating circumstances can be discussed.
- If your character does not meet this requirement, they will be put on probation, meaning they must complete two posts within the next 30 days. If they do not meet this requirement, they will be deleted. The Probation list will be available for you to see. If your character is on probation, members may not create any new characters until the one on probation is posted with, in-character (that means RP posts) at least twice.
- Members are limited to 15 characters - any number beyond that must be approved by the admins.
- Before creating a new character, you should have 10 posts of role play with the last character you created.
- If you create an account, but do not apply for any character within a month with that account, the Founders will delete that username and move any partial application to the archives.
- Every three months, we will have an Activity Check. An activity check has three parts: job activity, home activity and thread activity. The Founders will post a list of jobs, homes and threads that are 'in danger'.
- Job Activity: to maintain possession of a job, you must post at least one thread every month wherein that character is doing that job. (e.g. If you're a cashier, at least thread wherein you man the till!) If your character is not meeting this requirement at the Activity Check, they go on probation and can be fired if they don't meet the requirements at the next check. This is to ensure that important/popular positions such as Auror or Healer are not filled by inactive characters.
- Home Activity: if your home does not have an active thread in it (e.g post within the last three months), it will be removed. Once on the danger list, you have two weeks to utilize your home before it is deleted. Once deleted, you cannot re-make it for 3 weeks.
- Thread Activity: threads that do not have a reply in them for over 3 months will be moved to the archives. If you wish to keep a thread active, you will need to PM a Founder to move it back.
- If you are going to be on an extended absence for any period of time - exam season, family reasons, etc - your characters will be held in limbo until you return. Merely make a post in the absences board (or notify a Founder, who will do it for you) and your characters will be held. Absences apply to all characters, not just a few. If you post during the absence, it will be nullified - though you're welcome to pop back in and update the terms of your absence or just say hello in the chatbox.
- Character deletion: If you need to delete a character - that's okay! We understand that muse is fickle and real life is always lurking. However, when you delete a character, we do require that you don't make a new character for at least a week.
7. Character guidelines
- Guidelines for magical abilities and creatures can be found under the Reference desk. Please read those before applying to get a magical ability or to RP a creature. Applications for those must be well-reasoned and logical!
- Original Pureblood families, Squibs, and Muggles are all welcome on HR. However, as with magical abilities and creatures, applications for these must make sense and fit with the site plot. As Squibs and Muggles would find it difficult to interact with the Magical world (Muggles more so), and Pureblood families are dying out, we won't accept these in large numbers. Of your 15 character limit, we will accept maximum 5 Purebloods. Of those 5 purebloods, only 2 may be original characters - all others must be from the families listed in the Pureblood directory. Any further Purebloods must be cleared with administration and will only be accepted in rare cases.
- Children must be over 5 years of age and have a family member on the site or a convincing backstory.
- In the event of a student character, the Founders will discuss among themselves what House to sort that character into. You may indicate what House, if any, they would definitely not would be in, but do not pick it yourself. (However, in the event the Founders cannot agree, you may be offered a choice of two). Adult characters may choose what House they were in.
- Romantic and sexual relationships between student characters and adult characters are prohibited. Even if your character is 18, they must wait until they have graduated to enter into an adult relationship. Anything else is toeing the line of Proboards TOS.
- When applying for anything for your character - e.g., a job - please keep in mind that it must be logical. For example, we will not be accepting Professor characters who are under 30, unless they have a lot of pertinent experience for the post. If you apply for something that seems illogical, such as making a 19 year old Head of the Auror Office, we reserve the right to ask for clarification and/or to deny the request. This goes for the entire application!
- Original characters are welcomed! You may transplant your own characters from fanfiction, other sites, etc., to Homenum Revelio as long as their history is modified to fit in with the site plot - and the original content comes from you.
- However, crossovers with other fandoms are not allowed. For example, taking Sherlock Holmes and creating him here would not be permitted. Fandom references and homages are allowed within reason. Please do account for the fact that the site timeline is 13 years in the past. Twilight, for example, has not been written yet. (Thankfully).
- If killing off a character in RP, please check with administration first. You're more than welcome to delete a character and say they were killed (if that is what you choose to explain it, and the method isn't against proboards content), but if you are roleplaying out a death, we'd like to make sure all involved parties have agreed and it fits.
- Adopted characters: If the creator of an adopted character (including major canons) thinks that you are playing the character OOC - and we mean OOC, not just character growth - they have the right to request you alter their trajectory. In addition, if deleting a character that you have adopted from someone else (this includes major canons) please get permission from the creator of the character prior to doing so.
- Affiliations with Order of the Phoenix, Death Eaters, Wizengamot, and the DA must be applied for in a separate application located in the "Additional Sign-Ups" board.
