Corey tilted his head at the man's counterpoint and considered it a moment, looking off into the slightly greasy air hanging above the Alley. "Well, you're not wrong," he said after a moment, gaze dropping back down the the man and slight smile spreading across his face. "Let's just keep that foot strong on the ground, aye?" And then he dropped it, because really this man's health was none of his business. All he wanted was some food, after all, not life lessons or wisdom or some man he didn't know looking after him like that man would look after his own children. This rough-looking man certainly wasn't a child, and Corey had to let him make his own decisions - helping when asked, of course.
Their conversation was turning to many things Corey felt strongly about. He was usually a pretty good regulator of his emotions, but he was headstrong when he felt right or justified, or the need to make something so. "Mate, your beliefs are everything," he said with a nod of his head. "What else do you have? If you don't believe yourself, who will?" Corey physically shut himself up before he got any further down this line of thinking - he was getting preachy again. But he didn't mean just for this man; he meant for everyone. What Corey believed, he believed strongly, and anyone trying to convince him to change his ways was going to have a hard time. Some would call that stubborn, he called it passionate. It kept his heart beating strong, he reckoned, and he thought this bloke could use a little bit of that. His other emotional outburst, about family, was waved off by the other man, indicating to Corey that he should stop the preaching and get to eating very soon.
So they did, into the pub they went and sat down. The bartender eventually scrambled their way, and Corey had just enough time to give his companion a surprised look at the fact that he actually shared his name, before the server was asking what they wanted. Corey ordered a beer - not his beverage of choice, but he didn't really trust anything that didn't come in its own bottle here - and whatever the soup of the day was. He waited until Graham was done ordering, then settled into the awkward silence for maybe half a second until he could no longer take it. "So how many girls do you have? I have a daughter myself, she's about to start her third year at Hogwarts." Family was always a safe subject, at least for Corey. He could talk about his family all day; and even the strangest, the wickedest people in the world usually had someone they could honestly say they loved.

Graham grumbled a 'hmm' with a small nod. Surely he could stand on that one foot for a few more years. However he'd much rather pick the other foot back from the grave and return to his old life. To return home. But for as long as there were still people out there who put a target on his head, it was safer for them to stay away from his family. No matter how much it pained both him and his little girls.
The strange man came with deep words. They put Graham to silent for a moment. Then he scratched his chin and looked up. "My family I hope. But perhaps the reason I am here now is because people stopped believing in me," he answered the rhetorical question. Perhaps not Catherine but Ashley and Kallie believed in him. Still he wondered if they still did if they knew all of what he'd done. Even if he hadn't been in control of his own body at those times whether being under the imperious curse or the full moon did it's things, it made no difference to him. He still had the memories to live with. "Sometimes your own believes are tested or changed." Sometimes you find out that you are the villain while always believing yourself to be the hero. The man he was facing had a spirit that Graham very much respected. Mostly because he saw a bit of his former glorious and ambitious self in this fierce younger man. Hopefully fate was kinder to Corey.
Having no idea what to order because everything would seem good at this moment he just went with what Corey ordered and added some bread to it. Even if drinking beer on an empty stomach was not a bright idea he just went with it. Despite never feeling at ease here in Knockturn he noticed how exhausted he was now he gave himself the time to sit down. It was good that Corey started a conversation or Graham would have fallen asleep right there. "Huh? Ah, yes..." He took out the pocket watch and held it tightly. The picture of Ashley and Kallie was inside it. For a moment he considered showing the picture to his companion. But decided not to. It gave away too much. He smiled when the man spoke of his own daughter. "Is she doing good at school? Any subjects she likes?" His eyes turned towards the pocket watch before they returned at the man sitting across of him. "Two girls. The eldest works at Mungo's and the youngest is not yet of Hogwarts age." Ashley wasn't his own child but he had always seen her as so.

"Good point." The two things Corey held in deepest reverence were his family and his beliefs. He meant it in a more metaphysical sense when he said it, but the man was right when he said he hoped he would always have his family, as well. At his other point, Corey shrugged. Not to brush off the point, but emphasize the importance of what he realized. "Then you work to make them believe in you again. Not everybody, just the people that matter - your family." That bit didn't feel as preachy - if anything, he felt he was just agreeing with what the man was saying underneath it all. He smiled at bit at his next point, nodding. "That's life, isn't it? We can't stay static our whole lives." While Corey was certainly a stubborn being, he was also an advocate of change. There were a few core beliefs he held in his heart - honesty, equality, justice, things of that nature - but everything else he was constantly reflecting on. What worked for him five years ago may not work now. Hell, what worked five minutes ago sometimes had to change - as evidenced by this very conversation. Life was a series of tests and challenges and Corey saw no choice but to step up to the plate and take a swing at them every time. What was living otherwise? Hard held beliefs were the very thing that held the world back.
But the time for philosophy was over. It was time to eat. Corey couldn't deny his own hunger, even in this greasy place. He eyed his companion with a sense of amusement as he thought the other man might fall asleep waiting, but he eventually answered Corey. "She does pretty well. She really loves Quidditch - my poor heart. She likes potions, too - she's creative, like her other dad." Poor Corey couldn't make a potion to save his life; he was infinitely more talented with spellwork. He smiled as Graham gave the details of his own children. "That's quite the spread of age. I have two boys, as well - one is seven and the other still a babe. Your eldest, is she a Healer?"

Graham looked down at his hands when Corey mentioned making his family believe in him again. That was his goal for now, prove himself to be a decent man. Right now he was a mess even if he he was doing well compared to a few years ago. “I just wants to be the father my little girl thinks she has,” he whispered maybe more to himself than the other man. Graham and Catherine were putting up lies to shield their daughter from the darkness of the world. With that his daughter believed him to be a better person than he actually was. And he didn’t want to fail her. Just like he hated letting Ashley put up with this whole thing while she should be young and exploring life.
He nodded however at the comment about being static, he had to agree there. Some things changed for the good and some for the worse. Graham still wondered if the price he payed for becoming a good man was worth it. One may never find out what would have happened if he had stayed loyal to the Dark Lord, Azkaban most likely.
The werewolf wondered what this man’s tale was and what he did for a living. However he didn’t ask as he was far too comfortable in the conversation about family and children. Corey even managed to bring a soft chuckle out of Graham at the Quidditch comment because it sounded all too familiar. “Oh don’t get me started on the terrors of Quidditch. It’s the nightmare of every parent. I still regret buying Ashley her first broom but it’s so hard to resist when they put on those big eyes,” he shook his head and smiled at the memory. “I hope she can make you a potion to benefit your heart to repay for the damage she causes.” Well look at this Corey managed to relax Graham enough to have him make a joke.
Two boys as well, huh? “How sweet. I heard boys are fairly easy compared to girls but I don’t have the experience. You’ll have to resolve the mystery instead.” He smiled at the thought of babies. Cat and Graham would have so many more children if they were successful but they were happy enough to have Kallie and Ashley. The food and drinks were brought and Graham didn’t hesitate digging in. He hadn’t noticed just how thirsty he was until he had the bottle of beer on his lips. Which he emptied far too fast for his taste. Then he started on the food, while his eating was rushed it did betray the high class manners he once had learned. He only looked up at the next question. “Potion specialist and quidditch player against my approval. But you can’t keep them young forever,” he sighed. “What do you do for work?” He asked after all, planning to listen while eating.

Family was a touchy subject, this Corey knew. It was that way for nearly everybody, in some regard. Personally, he could sit here all day and wax poetic about the importance of family, but he knew people's limits. Graham said something more to himself than to Corey, and even though he caught it, he just nodded and let it go. He didn't need to do any convincing with Graham. The man had proven well enough to Corey that he had what it took to be a father, even if times were tough at the moment, and that's all Corey needed. Potential. He was optimistic enough to believe that as long as Graham had potential and desire to be a good father, it would work out for him and his family eventually.
While the more serious part of the conversation on family was left behind, they didn't leave it completely. The two of them were obviously both dads in the truest regard - and what did dads do better than worry themselves to death over their little girls? Corey nodded heartily at Graham's assessment of Quidditch. A heart attack, a nightmare, a disaster waiting to happen. And they, of course, were completely defenseless if it was what their little girls wanted to do. He laughed in agreement, happy to see that Graham's memory of his Ashley brought a smile to his tired face. He laughed even harder at he man's suggestion for Rosemary. "Right? Let's hope I can make it that far."
As any conversation about one of his children tended to do, the topic eventually turned to the rest of Corey's kids - his boys. He blew a low whistle of air out and smiled at Graham's comment. "You know, I can't really say. My Rosemary is quite a handful sometimes but I can barely keep up with her little brother. Like, seriously, turn my back for a second and he's climbing up the bloody walls." Rosemary could be emotionally exhausting and Ryan physically, but of course Corey adored them both no matter what.
The two men punctuated their conversation with moments of silence for food and drink - honestly, the stuff wasn't half bad. Corey laid a question out for Graham about his oldest, and raised his eyebrows in surprise at the response. "Wow, impressive. Sounds like my Rosemary might quite like her," he grinned. "I teach at Hogwarts - Transfiguration. And I'm the Head of Gryffindor House." Corey paused for a moment, looking at Graham and considering asking him the same question but getting the heavy vibe that he probably shouldn't. Instead, he went with, "I take it you probably went to Hogwarts back in your day?" That was a safe enough question.
