Alec got a lot of letters, most of it fan mail. He enjoyed his fans, truly. They made playing the part of a professional athlete fun, their enthusiasm was infectious and touching. Because he loved his fans so much, Alec made a point to try and respond personally to as much fan mail as he could. All the flying was starting to wear his current pet owl down. The poor bird was finding the trips more difficult and taking longer to recover after delivery. Not one to disappoint his fans by skimping on the replies his solution was to buy another owl to spread the burden out a little bit, give his beloved horned owl a break.
It was difficult to find time for the errand. Quidditch season was in full swing and that meant organized team practices daily on top of his own personal training sessions. It wasn't just Quidditch occupying his time, either. Alec had befrie nded a very charming Hogwarts professor and found himself spending time with the man whenever he could and when he couldn't, his thoughts were haunted by dark eyes and a mysterious smile. Alec managed to free up an hour or so between his morning jog and afternoon practice and headed to the pet shop. He felt a little out of place, dressed in a faded Slytherin alumni t-shirt and running pants, his comfortable work out outfit complete with a backwards baseball cap.
He paused briefly right inside the store to watch a pair of kittens frolic, hands in his pockets and a start of a smile on his face. After a moment he moved on to the reason he'd come, the owls. There were dozens of options but he was quite taken with a large barn owl on one of the higher perches. Alec gazed up at the bird. "You're very pretty, aren't you?" he smiled up at the feathered friend as he spoke but his comment seemed to draw the attention of the person next to him. "Oh, no.. Not you." That didn't come out quite right and an uncomfortable look crossed Alec's face as he hastily made to correct the misunderstanding "I mean-- I was just talking to the owl. It's a beautiful owl." He ran a hand through his hair. "I mean--you're pretty... i was just.. the owl." he looked up at the bird who tucked it's head under it's wing to go to sleep. "I was talking to it... I'm... I'm just going to stop talking now." To owls too.
