Potion making was a precise process. There was no room to make errors when one is creating something in a cauldron. From stirring the cauldron the right way to the right amount times. The structure of it all was one of the many things that drew Ava to the subject. There was nothing that would be a surprise in the end product as long as everything thing was done right. The other thing the made the Slytherin princess loved potions. She was good at it too. And when Ava found something she was good at she stuck with it and did everything she could to become the very best she could be at. No. She worked and studied and practice until she was the best. No matter how long it took her to get there didn't matter because Ava knew she would get there.
Why is this girl's obsession with potions so important right now? Well, it why she is in the potions classroom when there was no class going on. She was practicing her brewing skills as she did every day. Today was different, however, because it didn't seem like anything was going right. For someone who never messed up a potion in class, she was doing very bad at the current moment. She has added too many crushed beetles to the mixture in her cauldron and it was overflowing. In a bit of a panic, Ava climbed up onto the table behind her as the liquid from the cauldron seemed to be producing more and more of the liquid by the second. A simple solution to it all was to pull out her wand and magic it away. She reached for her wand in her robe pocket only to remembered she had placed it in her bag. Which was on the ground. She could go and get it. It was just that the green liquid could very well ruin her shoes. Shoes she paid good money for.

Lavender had felt a little more down than usual. The summer holiday was approaching and the castle always felt so... dead without the students around. They didn't need the break, if you asked her. This year's batch of first years were positively thick, descended from trolls. Give them a few months off and all the magic they learned thus far was sure to leak out of their ears. Anyway, the ghost was looking for a place to sulk in peace and the dungeons were very appealing for such an activity. Perhaps the dank and dreary atmosphere made the pouting all the more satisfying. The outside matched what she felt inside (if a ghost could have an 'inside').
The perpetual teenage ghost glided through the corridor, face set in a rather sour expression 'til a noise drew her into the potion's classroom. Lavender floated soundlessly through the the door, watching the scene unfold with raised eyebrows. "Well..." she started, sounding haughty as the dead Gryffindor propped her ghostly hands up on her translucent hips. "That wasn't very bright, was it?" Her once blue and now dulled grey gaze shifted between the potion and the girl. "Kids today." As if she wasn't forever a 'kid' herself. "Back in my day..." What was it? Six years ago now? "The potions master would've had you in detention forever for defiling his precious classroom with such a careless mistake. Real detention too. McGonagall's gone a bit soft with age."

If there was one ghost that Ava actually disliked more than Peeves it was Lavender Brown. Honestly, Ava didn't like any of the ghosts here at Hogwarts but Lavender just had a way of annoying Ava more than the rest. At first, when she heard a voice in the room Ava was scared. She knew she was probably going to be in some sort of trouble. Whether it was an accident or not no professor was a fan of a classroom being turned into a pool of green liquid. However, when she saw that it was Lavender she didn't care. "Oh really? And little miss perfect has never made a mistake in potions before?" she raised an eyebrow. She was still perched up on the table. Her arms crossing as she let Lavender go on as she did. If Ava was someone else she would have let a snort out at the comment about kids today/. To Ava, it seemed that poor ghost Lavender didn't realize she is stuck being a kid a lot longer than Ava was. There was some envy there. Lavender would never become old and wrinkly like Ava would. That is unless Ava met a vampire in time. Though she isn't sure if the whole not being able to go outside and the blood lust thing was worth being beautiful forever. Also magic. That was something Ava could not live without.

"Are you bitter?" Ava spoke up. "You know because I won't be punished for learning from my mistakes like you were?"
"You know, maybe you just have become too used to this place. I imagine that nothing seems the same the longer you are stuck roam the same halls. Taking out your endless suffering on those who can get away." silly words to say right now. Ava had a knack for getting on people's bad sides and right now was not a good time to do that. She could not get away like she had spoken of. If she egged on lavender she was stuck on top of this table until someone came and got rid of the liquid. Unless Lavender was somehow able to help the Slytherin get her wand. Which she doubt would happen now.

"Actually." the ghost said as she lifted her chin proudly. "I was quite good with potions." Honestly partly because she was rather unkind towards Professor Snape. She wasn't as afraid of him as her classmates because he was a joke to her. A greasy haired man who resembled a bat more than he did a human. She would've grown out of it given the chance, now she could empathize with him on some level. He was lonely and angry and she was too. A lesson learned a little too late, unfortunately. "I never messed up quite as terribly as you have."
Lavender crossed her ghostly arms over her translucent chest when the poor sod asked if she was bitter. "Me?" She raised her flawless eyebrow. "Bitter?" The Forever-Queen of Gryffindor burst into a fit of girlish giggles that she was infamous for. "Oh, that's rich!" He entire bodiless form shook with laughter and she wiped amused ghost tears from her eyes once she managed to get ahold of her composure. "Not all punishment comes from professors, love. I'd say your bag is about to pay the ultimate price for your carelessness." If the girl was worried about her shoes then surely the bag wasn't safe either.
The ghost glided forward but paused when the Slytherin tried to get under her skin. She tilted her head and once blonde curls cascaded off of her shoulder. Her fatal wound was exposed with the shift, although it wasn't necessarily intentional. "Too used to this place?" Truthfully it was her last resort, she couldn't very well haunt her own home.. the looks on her parent's grief stricken faces were too much. Occasionally she'd float off and badger those she held responsible for her death, but ultimately Hogwarts was the only place that tolerated the presence of a ghost. "I died for this place..." Lavender had defended Hogwarts from Lord Voldemort along with Dumbledore's Army, The Order and other loyal students. Her gaze shifted up towards the ceiling as if she could see the whole castle through it. Lavender took a moment to appreciate the castle and the fact that it was still standing and operating the way Albus Dumbledore wanted it to be, and not under the control of a tyrannical blood purist. She was a part of all that. "If you're too thick to figure out how to vanish a potion then perhaps I could go summon help for you." The help might be in the form of Peeves, but he'd help in his own way. Or maybe she'd lurk around for a student, if she was feeling really generous.
