single || heterosexual |
APPEARANCE
Played by Jenna Coleman (link)
DESCRIPTION:Crystal, usually known to her friends as Chris, is probably best described as a rebel with fashion sense. It’s pretty normal for her to wear a black leather jacket with a skirt or dress, although nothing beats a soft sweater and comfy pants. Nail polish is just as common on her fingers as dirt or grease, and she tends to smell like a mixture of perfume and motorcycle fumes. She’s equally comfortable roughhousing with the boys or having a night on the town with the girls. Her relaxed posture and twinkling eyes tend to exude a sort of easygoing confidence. She has a loud laugh and a bright smile that’s always on her face. In fact, if she isn’t smiling, either there’s something very wrong or she’s plotting. Neither tends to end well for bystanders.
PERSONALITY
POSITIVE TRAITS:determined, good-humored, never backs down from a fight, unshakably loyal, really good at Defense Against the Dark Arts, generally in good spirits, knows how to cheer people up, can be surprisingly empathetic when the situation calls for it
NEGATIVE TRAITS:doesn’t always take things as seriously as she should, questions authority, stubborn, hot-tempered, a little too sarcastic for her own good, absolute rubbish at Herbology, sometimes forgets to think before she acts, secretly worried she won’t live up to her parents’ legacy
LIKES:indie music, the wind in her face while riding her motorcycle, evenings with close friends and a good drink, rain, soft sweaters, the wonder of Christmas
DISLIKES:frills, grumpy people (she takes it as a challenge to cheer them up), broccoli, people who can’t take a joke, pranks that get stuff in her hair that doesn’t want to wash out, controlling authority
HOBBIES:playing pranks on her co-workers, riding her motorcycle, hanging out at the Lupin house, playing with Teddy and Lily, watching Quidditch (Harpies all the way!)
GENERAL PERSONALITY:In many ways, Crystal is the stereotypical Gryffindor. She’s stubborn and loyal and loves to have a good time. Rules are more guidelines in her view, and she has no problem breaking any she disagrees with. Or questioning authority. And she has been known to get herself into trouble for her pranks and sarcastic quips. But underneath the rebellious joker is the heart of a true lion. Crystal has a very strong moral code that she will go to great lengths to uphold. Once she deems a battle worth the fight, she won’t back down until she reaches the end, no matter how hard it is to get there. In fact, adversity just tends to make her hit back harder. She makes friends for life and will do anything to protect the people she cares about. She does occasionally get insecure over the self-imposed pressure of living up to two parents who died for their beliefs. But for the most part, she’s confident in who she is and what she can do.

Character History:Crystal was born near the height of the First Wizarding War. Her parents were both involved in the Order of the Phoenix, and many members questioned the sense of bringing a child into the mess that was currently the wizarding world. But for Charles and Dorcas, little Crystal was a ray of sunshine in the darkness, a reminder of what they were fighting for. Somehow in the midst of war the small family actually managed to find a certain degree of happiness.
It was three years into Crystal’s young life that the war tore her family apart. Dorcas and a few other Order members were following up some intelligence and ended up being ambushed by a group of Death Eaters led by the Dark Lord himself. The intel had been leaked as a trap. Dorcas bravely faced off with Voldemort, but she wasn’t powerful enough to stop him from killing her. Charles was heartbroken. He promptly took young Crystal into hiding. A few weeks later the Potters were killed and Voldemort was defeated, bringing an end to the war.
Crystal grew up fast, and her boundless energy didn’t exactly make things easy for her widower father. Neither did her love of mischief. She got into more trouble than Charles had even known was possible. And the rebellious streak that showed up in her teenage years could make her a holy terror. But he loved his little girl like mad and did the best he could to raise her the way her mother would have wanted.
It was no surprise at all to her father when Crystal landed in Gryffindor house. Where else were they to put a rapscallion like her? And underneath all the loud laughter and scraped knees, there was most definitely the heart of a lion. Just like her mother’s. It wasn’t unusual for people who had known Dorcas to say that some piece of Crystal reminded them of her mother. The comparison was both a blessing and a curse for the girl. While she idolized her mother’s heroism, it also set quite a high bar to live up to.
Crystal was more than capable of leaving her own legacy though. She did well enough in her classes when she actually paid attention. But her true expertise lay in the realm of pranks. The staff didn’t seem to appreciate that quite as much as the students, and she racked up her fair share of detentions over the years. That record drew the attention of the Weasley twins. While they were never really more than acquaintances, the trio did develop something of an on-again, off-again prank rivalry in their later years.
It was at the end of Crystal’s sixth year that Harry Potter claimed Voldemort had returned. Crystal wasn’t really sure if she should believe it, but her father certainly did. The Order of the Phoenix was quickly reconvened after being dormant for so many years. Despite Crystal’s insistence that she was of age now, her father refused to let her play an active role in the organization. She did, however, find a way to fight back the next school year. The Ministry was steadily taking over the school, and that didn’t sit well with Crystal. Not at all. When Harry and his friends decided to form an underground organization, a recommendation from the Weasley twins and her father’s status as an Order member was enough to get Crystal in. It might have been the rebellious nature of the group, or it could’ve just been that they were actually doing something useful in the fight. But whatever it was, Crystal flourished in Dumbledore’s Army. Being one of the oldest students made her someone to look up to, even if she didn’t actually lead like Harry did. Plus she had always been good at DADA, and that made her a serious asset. When the twins left the school, Crystal saw it as a point of honor to harass Umbridge as much as she could in their absence. The harsh punishments Umbridge dished out were like throwing gasoline on a fire. No matter what she tried, Crystal just came back harder.
By the time she left Hogwarts at the end of the year, not even the Ministry was denying it anymore – Voldemort was back. The Order was now in full swing, and despite Crystal’s best efforts, her father still would not let her help. He did give her extra pointers on defensive spells, but that was the end of it. Frustrated with the lack of a role she was being allowed to play, Crystal applied to begin training as an auror. Her father took the news with a mixture of anger and pride. In an effort to keep Crystal safe, Charles reached out to Nymphadora Tonks, an auror and fellow Order member, and asked her to keep an eye on his daughter. Order business kept Tonks pretty busy, but she checked in on Crystal when she could. The two loud and mischievous young women hit it off rather well, with Crystal eventually coming to see Tonks as a real mentor and friend in spite of how little time they actually spent together.
Evil steadily crept its way into the Ministry, and finally even the auror corps became too risky. Crystal and her father went into hiding with a couple other members from the Order. They struck back at the Death Eaters however they could while still keeping their heads low. And then, one day in late spring, word came via Crystal’s D.A. coin that the time had finally come to make a united stand. This time Crystal’s father didn’t even try to talk her out of it. She quickly headed back to Hogwarts to stand beside the rest of the D.A. The Order followed soon after, and the school was quickly retaken.
Then the real fighting began. Crystal managed to find her father in the chaos, and the two fought back-to-back against the Death Eaters. It felt right. More right than anything ever had. And then Charles fell, struck down by one of Voldemort’s lackeys. The last thing he ever said, mere seconds before the curse hit him, was that he was proud of the woman his daughter had become.
Crystal continued fighting, refusing to stop and grieve until Voldemort was dead and his followers were on the run. Shortly after the battle, she was approached by a member of the Order offering her the chance to officially join. Crystal immediately accepted. It was the best way she knew to honor the memory of her parents.
The loss of her father was hard on Crystal. He was all the family she had ever known. She threw herself into her job, having been promoted straight to full auror as a participant in the Battle of Hogwarts. There was certainly plenty of work to be done in the aftermath off Voldemort’s demise. Thankfully, Crystal was saved from drowning herself in the hunt for Death Eaters by the intervention of the Lupin family. Nymphadora Lupin kept her promise to look out for Crystal, and she and Remus made a strong effort to keep an eye on the newly-orphaned auror and make her feel like part of the family. With their help, Crystal slowly began to bounce back.
Five years on, and she has pretty much returned to her cheerful pranking self, despite everything that keeps happening in England. She still has moments where she goes oddly quiet, either missing her father or worrying that she won’t live up to the legacy her parents left behind. But those moments are quickly becoming far less frequent. For the most part, she maintains a twinkling smile and a determined work ethic. The auror department and the Order keep her busy, and the Lupins keep her sane. It’s not unusual for Crystal to drop in after work to crash dinner, play with the twins, talk with Remus, and share a laugh with his wife. But she’s also a built-in babysitter and occasional maid, so they don't complain much.
