DESCRIPTION: It is rare to see Benny without a bounce in his walk and a smile on his face, due to his generally carefree and happy-go-lucky persona. He has terrible fashion sense and normally wears hideously ugly sweaters and ironic t-shirts. It's easy to tell when he's lying because he struggles to look the person he is lying to in the eye and his ears turn red. He tends to shake when he's angry or nervous. He has a large, jagged scar on his chest which can only be seen when he's shirtless.

GENERAL PERSONALITY: Benny is a generally friendly, happy-go-lucky dog person. Some may find his enthusiasm irritating and he has been called childish and stupid in the past, but he is far from the latter. Benny is very emotionally intelligent and can easily tell when someone is lying or hiding something. He's hard working and loyal to his friends, making him a good work colleague when he can be serious enough to pay attention to business talk.

Character History: Benjamin Joshua Hopkins is the first child and only son of Martha Doris Hopkins (nee Rogers) and David James Hopkins born January 8th 1980 in Dulverton, Somerset. The Hopkins were a very religious Christian couple, David worked as a Pastor for one of the local churches with Martha running regular prayer groups when she wasn’t working as a nursery school teacher. Martha came from a wizarding family but lost her parents not long after her birth, so was unaware of its existence and was raised as a muggle. She never recieved her Hogwarts letter and it wasn't until Benny started attending Hogwarts that she realised that she was a Squib. The two were a model Christian and became important members of their community before they had their son. Their daughter, Faith Elisabeth, was born two years later on the 4th of March 1982.

In his early life, Benjamin was the perfect child. He was actively involved within the church, performing sermons alongside his father when he was eight years old and helped lead the Sunday School the his mother helped out at. He had above average grades in school and was polite to all of his teachers. He did all of his chores, went ot bed when asked, was a loving brother to Faith and even walked the family dog. The only real problem was the “strange things” that seemed to happen whenever he was angry, stressed or frightened. David and Martha couldn’t really explain how or why they happened but since they loved their son and didn’t want to tarnish their good reputation, they kept it quiet. It was when they received a letter inviting their son to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that everything began to fall into place.

At first, the Hopkins’ were hesitant to allow their son to attend such a school. Boarding Schools had never really crossed their minds and sending their son to a place they didn’t even know existed until very recently sounded ridiculous. In fact, they’d almost entirely made their mind up not to allow him to go until they saw the excitement on their sons face as he told his younger sister about this new magical school he was going to go to. No matter what, their children came first and so Benny began attending Hogwarts in 1991.

After- rather disappointingly- being sorted into Hufflepuff, the boy was excited for an exciting and interesting introduction to magic and a chance to have a normal life at Hogwarts. But being in the same year as Harry Potter, that dream was doomed to fail. Although he never really associated with the Boy who lived or anyone in the Golden Trio, he- like everyone else in the school- knew exactly who he was. He didn’t really understand why the boy was of such great importance, nor who this you-know-who bloke was, but he had great respect for him.

Benjamin, like many other students, was swept up in the rivalry between said boy and Lord Voldemort. Although not officially a member of Dumbledore’s army due to his lack of connections with people in the army, he did assist Neville Longbottom in protecting the younger students after the Death Eaters took over the Ministry of Magic. Despite his parent’s pleas for him to return home, he remained at Hogwarts. He wasn’t willing to give up.

He fought alongside his friends and colleagues at the Battle of Hogwarts, including his best friend and his sister’s boyfriend Daniel Hardy. He managed to escape mostly unscathed, save for a large scar on his chest which he still covers to this day. After the battle he returned to Hogwarts for his final year and managed to achieve a couple of E’s on his N.E.W.Ts. After finishing his final year, Both he and Daniel lived at the Hopkin’s residence for a couple of years in order to move on from the loss of their friends and fellow students and recover from the trauma.

He now lives in a small house in Ottery Saint Catchpole with his new Golden Retriever puppy Tessa due to it's closeness to his parents and his sister, who still lives at home.

Amortentia: Freshly cut grass: A clean, fresh scent that reminds him of playing Quidditch and family days out. He associates it strongly with his home in Somerset as he lives in a fairly rural town.
Peppermint: A scent he associates with Christmas, which is his favorite time of year. His mother would make peppermint creams for the children at her nursery. Peppermint tea is also his favorite drink.
Wet dog: mAlthough a gross smell to some, the scent of wet dog comforts Benny for some unexplained reason. Probably because it reminds him of his own puppy as well as his childhood pet.
