Tobias had gathered his courage and left the kitchens to join the other students for breakfast. It had been almost two weeks since he started hiding there. He hadn’t gone to classes and he hadn’t returned to the Gryffindor common room. The only times he had come out was to take the wolfsbane potion and later do the transformation. He assumed that the teachers knew but just decided to leave him be, especially after a couple of students had found him there. There hadn’t been any exams or major projects so his grades weren’t suffering from his little isolation.
Even if he had settled himself on the Gryffindor table, he made sure he was far away from the other students, especially Kingsley and her friends. The young werewolf picked a slice of white bread and smeared some strawberry marmalade on it. Just as he took his first bite the owls came flying in with letters and packages from home mostly. Tobias never got any post so he continued to eat while ignoring the birds. That was when a ‘fancy as fuck owl’ (as he called it) dropped a letter on him. “Oi! Watch it you little shit!” Toby had just been in time to pull his bread back or the letter would have been covered in marmalade. Fucking owls, his pet dove was way better. The boy rose an eyebrow at the bird as he put the bread on his plate to read the envelope. The Ministry. Tobias jaw tightened and he didn’t feel hungry anymore.
Without a word he stood up and took the letter with him to the kitchens, he wasn’t going to read it here. Tobias didn’t pay attention to his surroundings and couldn’t see if anyone was watching him. He tickled the pear which started to giggle and opened the door to let him into the kitchens. The kitchens had become his own little common room. Despite the noises and elves walking around all the time, he could sleep better here than anywhere else. The Gryffindor leaned against a kitchen table and opened the letter. His eyebrows formed a frown upon reading it. “What the fuck is this shite? What the bloody hell am I supposed to do?” Some elves looked up and took a step away from the swearing boy. He shook his head and groaned. This wasn’t something he wanted to deal with, he didn’t even understand what this ‘registration’ meant. Toby pinched his eyelids. Well isn’t this just great?
“Uwah!” The werewolf shook up when he heard a rumbling noise from one of the cupboards. He blinked and relaxed. “The noise is bloody annoying,” he grumbled to himself as he approached the rumbling cupboard, leaving the open letter on the kitchen table. Maybe a rat was in there causing a mess. Tobias opened the cupboard and took his wand, ready to catch a rat. But he didn’t see a rat. Instead he saw a young boy crawled in a tiny ball, sobbing. “Oi, are you okay?” The fuck was a kid doing here? Tobias reached a hand out to touch the child’s shoulders but retreated when the boy revealed his face. His eyes widened in shock, no in pure terror. “Jimmy?” His voice broke when he saw the face. How? Jimmy was dead! He couldn’t be here. “It hurts, big brother,” the familiar voice he hadn’t heard in years spoke. Tobias’ stumbled back and fell on the ground when he saw that Jimmy was now covered in blood, big lashes, flesh cut, flesh torn. Wounds that were all too familiar. Jimmy’s face was pale and his eyes were drained in blood. “The monster is coming for me again, it is gonna hurt me,” the Jimmy-boggart sobbed. Tobias did not realize it was a boggart but even if he did, would it change anything? “No, Jimmy your big brother is here, I’ll protect you,” he tried to sound brave but he was shaking in fear. Tears were streaming from his eyes as he knew the truth all too well. The bloodied boy took a step closer and Toby crawled back. “The monster is there,” Jimmy pointed at Toby. “”You did this, you killed me. Monster, murderer, freak!” Tobias screamed and covered his ears as he squeezed his eyes close and laid still on the floor, sobbing and screaming. Anything not to hear the scary things that were said. He did it, even if he hadn’t been in control. The first full moon he didn’t even know what was going on as he transformed at home in his bedroom. The same room he had shared with Jimmy… It didn’t change the outcome. Tobias’ wolf had killed his little brother, torn him to shreds. And it’d kill again. People weren’t safe around him.
