All Hallow was a holiday with roots steeped in magic; and as such it was only fitting that Hogwarts celebrate it in the most magical way possible - with pumpkins stacked around the hall, the ceiling adorned with flickering candles in purple and orange, and the long tables removed and replaced with a large dance floor, a series of small tables and a banquet table for food which was set up on the Professors' dais, and a few other activities scattered here and there, such as bobbing for apples, halloween themed games, and more. It was certainly very festive, and even Minerva had gotten into the halloween spirit with her black robes embroidered in silver cobwebs. She watched the students whirl around the hall with glee and smiled, sipping from a class of cider and humming softly to the music playing from the enchanted instruments in one corner. Students were dressed in many different ways. Some were wearing strange, one-piece animal outfits, and others had decided to go for the ballgown/full suit and masquerade mask route, but all of them appeared to be enjoying themselves (and all of them were appropriate, no 'sexy ___' costumes or vulgar choices in sight). Even the first-years were allowed at this event, though Minerva was keeping her eye on them, to be sure! Though, as ever, the outside world was rife with woe, Hogwarts seemed to stand unencumbered - indeed, its cheerful Great Hall seemed evidence to support the idea that no matter what, Hogwarts would always be standing. Minerva, watching the students dance and laugh, sing and chase each other around the hall, couldn't help but wish that if Hogwarts would last forever, it should last this way, full of cheer. __________ Welcome to the Halloween Feast and Masquerade! The party is in full swing, and you are welcome to join in or act as though your character has been there all along! Behavior and costume must be appropriate for a school dance. Otherwise, have fun!

Cassidy was a pretty big fan of Halloween. It was quite witchy and quite fantastical. It was fun to pretend to be whatever you wanted for a night. Cassidy's brain was chock full of fairy tales and ancient legends, so of course she reveled in a ballroom full of ghosts and goblins and unicorns and elves (even if they were just her classmates underneath; that didn't matter tonight). Tonight, she'd chosen to attend the annual Halloween festival as a fairy, sparkly little dress and wings and all. She even donned a brightly colored mask to match her dress, and her curls were in full swing as she swayed about the dance floor, mingling between different groups of friends. She was in a very good mood.
And hungry. All that dancing worked up an appetite. Cassidy fluttered away from the dance floor, eyeing the food at the front of the hall with a ravenous eye. On the way there, she passed by an apple bobbing station. She changed her trajectory quick and with a grin. Who didn't like a little challenge for their food? Holding her hair back with one hand (she really needed two, stray curls bouncing right back into her face), Cassidy went at it, going after a big shiny red apple with her teeth. She looked absolutely silly and she loved it. This was a night of revelry and happiness and she figured the whole world could do with acting a little silly right now.
Her teeth finally sank into her prize and Cassidy came up with a victorious, albeit muffled, call of triumph. She took as ladylike of a bite as possible from the apple, pushing her mask up a bit to eat and watch the rest of the students. She was going to miss this next year.

Jasmine was avoiding Cassidy and had been ever since the astronomy assignment had gone wrong. She had to, one didn't almost kiss someone and then waltz up to them like nothing'd happened afterwards. They probably should have talked about it but honestly Jasmine didn't know what to say or what happened really, only that getting closer seemed like a great idea at the time. It was hell not talking to one of your best friends, too. It made her feel rotten and grey, but her thoughts were often colored green. Jas might not be talking to Cassidy, but she was very aware of her. Curly brown hair would bounce in and out of her dreams and the Slytherin constantly drew her eye from across the great hall and in corridors, even the rare class they shared together. Even now, in a sea of costumed children Jasmine stood off to the sidelines, watching Cassidy dance and wishing that she could get over herself and go dance too. Jasmine was lurking somewhere around the banquet table, eyes locked on the very pretty fairy as she enjoyed herself on the dance floor. Jasmine was dressed for the occasion in a peacock green dress and matching masquerade mask. Her shoes for the occasion had been an unfortunate choice, gold heels that she was hopeless at walking in. Even so, when Cassidy suddenly stopped dancing and headed for the food, for the very table that Jasmine was standing next too, she had the urge to take off running. Her lungs felt like they froze up in her chest and her stomach twisted itself into a knot as she watched the Slytherin approach. Thankfully, something seemed to distract her and soon Cassidy was bobbing for apples. The younger Gryffindor couldn't help the smile that teased at her lips and she moved closer to watch. It took some time, but Cassidy was determined and eventually got herself an apple. She might be dripping wet, but it didn't seem to bother her as she took her victory bite. Maybe it was the masked, mysterious feel she got from their costumes or the fun atmosphere of the night but something made Jasmine feel bolder than she had in weeks, reawakened her Gryffindor spirit. Seizing the chance, she slipped her wand from her handbag and summoned a towel over, sliding right up behind Cassidy and wobbling as she balanced on the hell. "Erm.." she started, the boldness suddenly leaving her and the squeezy feeling in her lungs coming back. "I'm--um-- fairly certain that you'll be needing this." Her attempt at a pun sounded a lot better in her head and the sixth year face palmed almost as soon as the words left her lips. "Oh, that wasn't right... I--wow--that was terrible. I just.. you're wearing fairy wings... i was trying to be funny.." Trying being the key word. She held the towel out to Cassidy, cheeks flushed with an embarrassed red color and shoulders slumping. "Can you take this so I can go?"

After a few more bites of apple, Cassidy's masquerade mask was proving to be quite the hindrance to her victory. It had already caused her quite a lot of trouble throughout the night - with her peripheral vision pretty much obscured, she'd stepped on quite a few toes and may have been partially responsible for a candlestick that mysteriously fell over and briefly lit a drape on fire. But absolutely worst of all these things was definitely the fact that the mask's little pointed nose was getting in the way of her apple. Cassidy pulled it off in a flourish, tying the ribbons that secured it to her head to one of her wings. It had been sort of expensive, after all, and was pretty enough to hang off her bedpost even if it would never adorn her face again.
With her field of vision cleared, the hall burst into even more life around her as people danced and ran and played and Cassidy was completely captivated by it, attention on no one particular thing for very long. That, and the fact that she didn't have eyes in the back of her head (even though her mask was back there now, hanging uselessly), didn't give her any warning at all about who was sneaking up behind her. Jasmine. Just the sound of the girl's voice was enough to send chills running up Cassidy's arms, and it took her quite a few seconds to garner the courage to turn around. She hadn't really spoken to Jasmine since that night on the Astronomy tower, when something happened that very much warranted speaking about. They were avoiding each other and it hurt, both the fact that it was happening - and the fact that it felt like they had to avoid each other. They were friends! Friends were supposed to get you through stuff like this, though Cassidy supposed that got a bit more complicated when the lines got all crossed.
Jasmine was pretty in green and that drew a smile to Cassidy's face almost as soon as she turned around, even as the Gryffindor stumbled awkwardly through some words at her. It was uncomfortable to watch Jasmine feel awkward at anything; she was confident and sure and that was one of the many reasons Cassidy liked her in the first place. That, and the fact that she was kind and thoughtful, even if she wouldn't admit it. She had a towel for Cassidy and Cassidy felt herself melting. Cassidy took the towel with an appreciative nod, and just as quickly grabbed Jasmine's arm when she said she was going. "Don't go. It was funny." She wasn't sure if it was her or Jasmine or the both of them, but somebody was burning up under Cassidy's fingers and she dropped her hand away, busying herself with squeezing water out of her hair. "Do you, um, want to get a drink with me? Apples always make me...thirsty." There. Awkward fit Cassidy much more snugly.

Daphne was trying hard to concentrate on the task in hand, which was studying for her potions class. But she was stuck in the same paragraph from the last half an hour because of the noise around her. She could hear the girls giggling in their dorms all the time for the blasted dance which was going to be in the great hall that evening. Halloween masquerade, Daphne did not know why it was soo important to them. She desperately tried to concentrate but was failing in it, she wanted to lock herself up in her dorm room but noo, her dorm mates were busy getting ready and their annoying voices were driving her mad. She shut her book and placed it on the table and began to think. She wanted to stay back in the common room but something told her that she was not going to like it by the end of the day. She always thought of going to the halloween dance with some one but to her utter disbelief no one asked to accompany her and she was alone. She did not mind who it was, be it a guy or a girl all she wanted was someone to accompany her to the dance and it was a far cry for her.
Daphne decided to go to the dance and show to all that she did not need someone. Here she was trying to get ready to show others that she was not going to mind being single, but until a few minutes she too was wallowing. She did not even know what she was going to wear for the dance but then remembered her mother had sent her a custom made dress which she was supposed to wear and flaunt. Well flaunting was something she can easily get done but going to the dance all alone was not at all good. Huffing for what seemed to be the hundredth time, she began to get ready and wore the simple white knee length dress her mother sent. She was going as the Grecian princess and thus she was all decked in gold leaf patterns.
Daphne made her way towards the ground floor and hoped that someone might talk her out of going to the dance alone and would accompany her. Bad luck, no one was there so she made her way towards the great hall. She peeped inside and saw that there were many people who were dancing and some were just talking a little bit away from the dance floor. She breathed in and with her head held high, she entered the hall. She quickly placed her mask which was rather beautiful, all gold and glittery. Even though the first-years were allowed to participate in the All Hallows, Miyu would rather stay in his dormitory (read: off on his usual adventure to explore more of the castle and school grounds) than showing up at such an event. Tugging at the collar of his black dress shirt with a scowl, he then threw a scathing look at a few girls - he was guessing that they were third-years, judging from their height - who were gossiping about him as they went past each other. Fine, he cheated a little by wearing a pair of very dark-colored jeans instead of something more formal, but so what? It wasn't like the design for male clothes could be as flamboyant as the females, and as long as he looked presentable, switching pants to jeans was so trivial that it shouldn't have mattered. Well, at least everyone was wearing a mask of sorts, hiding their faces from their peers around them in the Hall... almost. Some of them were quite easy to identify from their exaggerated mannerisms or the screaming vanity from their choice of dress, which made the young boy to be more conscious about himself, more determined to melt into the shadows of the party so that he could sneak out later at the earliest opportunity. He adjusted the simple black-and-blue mask on his eyes, scanning the dancing crowd without much enthusiasm... until his sight fell on a table filled with food. That was all he needed from this party. As he moved towards the saving grace from a whole night of boredom, he spotted two girls near the fruits area, facing each other. He couldn't hear what they were talking about above all the din in the Hall (the weird music was really loud), but their body language was clearly awkward, hesitant. He shrugged and chose to ignore them - it was none of his business anyway - as he reached out his hand for the pumpkin pies. What's Halloween without something pumpkin-ish?
