Comfort Food

Corey had a little secret. More than a secret, really - it might be a downright sin in the eyes of one particular very handsome, very gourmand Italian man whom Corey loved very much. Him and his cooking. But Corey also had a secret love, one he was useless to resist - he loved cafeteria food.
Bland, boring plain old cafeteria food. He didn't know why, really. There was absolutely nothing special about it. Seriously. But for some reason, Corey found it...comforting. Merlin rest her soul, but it reminded Corey exactly of his grandmother's cooking. It wasn't bad, not in the least, it was just...there. A whole culture of food that apparently missed the train on this whole spice and flavor thing the rest of the world was getting in on. Comforting and there for you, just like old granny intended.
And Corey would take any excuse he could to eat it. He had to be sneaky, of course. D'Angelo liked for him to come home for lunch when he could, and of course they cooked dinner together almost every evening. So he needed a pretty darn good excuse to eat outside of the house or the Great Hall at Hogwarts (D'Angelo, slightly grudgingly, accepted that the house elves were pretty excellent cooks).
Corey found that excuse today, though he wasn't particularly excited about it. Where he absolutely loved cafeteria food, Corey despised paperwork. He wasn't the biggest fan of the Ministry, either. He found the very building itself oppressive, not to even get started on its people and policies. Or its damned paperwork. Corey had three adopted children, and each of them had a paper trail for bloody miles. And there was always more to do, it seemed, revisions and omissions and additions. Corey found himself in the Ministry at least once every several months. At least it was a hell of an excuse to sneak off to the Ministry cafeteria afterward. Corey King, valiantly saving his husband from having to deal with the Ministry and all its paperwork.
And go to the cafeteria he did. As soon as he queued up, Corey had the biggest of smiles on his face. He loaded up his plate with all his favorites, maybe a bit too much of all his favorites but hey it was a treat, and headed off to find a table to enjoy his meal. He spotted the perfect one, situated along the back wall. And just when he got there and sat his tray down, someone else sat their tray down at the exact same time, on the exact same table.
Corey didn't mind new friends! Of course not. He would talk to anybody. He turned his head up to smile at what he hoped would be his lunch companion - and his face instantly fell. None other than @max stood there, looming (though, admittedly, nearly everyone loomed over Corey).
Just because he was friendly as a bee, didn't mean Corey didn't have enemies. Corey had plenty of people that didn't like him, and plenty people he returned the favor to as well. Corey was strong willed and incredibly opinionated - of course some people were going to have a problem with that. Knott was one of those people who seemingly had a lifelong problem with that. Corey had known the man for a long time, since their Hogwarts days, and there hadn't been a one of those days where they liked each other. They constantly butted heads in school, over everything. They didn't see much of each other these days, but when they did...it was just like old times.
"Knott," he said stiffly, pulling himself up. "Get tired of stealing lollies from children, so you come to steal my table, hmm?" Not that Knott was actually the type of person to steal candy from babies (that was ridiculous). But Corey thought the guy was a jerk, and couldn't resist taking every chance he could to let him know that.
(OOC: I hope this is okay! Lemme know if I should change anything. Also, jeez, I'm sorry it's so long. The muse got me lol.)
