Aje was in a jovial mood, largely due to the fact he'd received an owled message and package from his family. They didn't communicate much, as muggles they were fairly apprehensive of using birds for communication, but he held his family very dear to his heart and word from them always put him in good spirits. When the letter arrived he tucked it away into the pocket of his robes and set the package aside, he wanted to enjoy reading the letter and not be distracted from it in the Great Hall. Later that day after his class had finished, Aje found himself a nice cup of hot cocoa and settled into the comfortable chair behind his desk. He was prepared to read his mail, give it his full attention.
The large wizard has the ghost of a smile on his face as he took a long sip from his warm drink. It warmed him up in his core. The weather was the hardest thing to get used too, even after a decade of living in the UK. December was always warm and dry back home, here it was cold and wet like a dog's nose. It was an unwelcome shock when getting out of a comfortable bed in the morning but there were some positives, building snowmen with his students out in the courtyard and drinking chocolate were only two of them. His smile grew when he peeled away the package's paper and found a cake that smelled like citrus and home made coconut candy inside. The uncomfortable feeling of homesickness settled into his chest and intensified when he popped one of the tasty Nigerian candies into his mouth. It didn't quite go with hot chocolate and his fond memories of home made him feel just as warm.
Dark eyes scanned over the letter and the smile faltered. The news wasn't good, one of his younger brothers had gotten in trouble with the law and his mother was very sick. The effort that it must've taken to send him the sweets endeared her to him. A knock at his office door drew him away from Nigeria and back to Hogwarts. Aje beckoned the student or fellow professor inside with a rather distracted sounding "Come in." The former auror set the letter aside and took another candy for himself, regarding it thoughtfully for a moment before popping it in his mouth and turning his attention to the person seating themselves in front of his desk.
