Mio Nakayama

DESCRIPTION:

Mio is 4ft 10" which is average for her age group in Japan and her build is slightly muscular but slim. She has long dark brown hair which she normally wears down but will sometimes wear it in a ponytail. She has a pale skin complexion and dark brown eyes that become beautifully clear when she is thinking about something. Mio pretty much adheres to the school rules and wears her school uniform in the correct fashion when at school. Outside of school, she wears a variety of clothing. She has a tendency to wear hooded sweatshirts, t-shirts, casual shirts, jeans, track clothing and trainers. If she is lounging in her dorm room, then she will wear track clothing or a hooded sweatshirt, tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt. If she is hanging with friends then her normal attire is either a hooded sweatshirt, t-shirt, jeans and trainers or a casual shirt, jeans and trainers. She will occasionally wear dresses or a smart top and skirt if she is going out to dinner with family when at home. Oddly enough, she has also kept her robes and the japanese muggle uniform that is worn underneath from her time in Mahoutokoro, these are treasured items of hers.

GENERAL PERSONALITY:

Mio is a quiet and slightly shy person when you first meet her. However once she befriends someone, she is a reliable and loyal friend. She does have a more friendly side, but she only shows that to people who are her close friends and therefore can be trusted. Normally she either doesn't really talk or she is polite and respectful. When she does lose it, she can be quite scary for an eleven year old child and as she gets older, she could potentially become very dangerous. She's very passionate about all magic, but particular potions and wants to become a great potions mistress. She can get frustrated or flustered if she fails at something or makes a mistake, say if she drops her books in front of people and looks silly she'd get annoyed. If she tries a spell and fails that is not so annoying unless everyone else can do it or learn it faster than her.

She has desire and determination to be the best that she can, so she likes to study as she believes that is the one thing she believes that will get her further in life. She is ambitious, and wants to succeed her mother at potions. Whilst her family's stance on blood purity is not as staunch as some others, they do prefer to associate with purebloods. Her parents have fed her dislike of muggles/muggle borns but have always been more tolerable with halfblood because of the element of at least one magical parent. The combination of this and her experience at elementary school, Mio has therefore also ended up with a dislike/wariness of muggles/ muggleborns but will tolerate them as long as they leave her alone and do nothing to harm her, plus getting along with halfbloods as long as they don't hurt her.

Character History: 11 year old Mio is the youngest of six daughters born to wealthy parents Miki and Hideo Nakayama. The Nakayama family is a close knit, very old Japanese pure blood family who can be traced back to before the Middle Ages. Born initially in Fujisawa, Kanagawa prefecture, Japan, Mio had happy and loving childhood growing up with her sisters. Her parents initially felt they should at least attempt to understand a bit about how muggles lived and therefore sent their children to muggle elementary school first rather than sending them to Mahoutokoro whch took students from the age of seven as day pupils (they began boarding at the age of elven. However because Mio was shy, she was seen as different by the other kids and ended up being badly bullied. One day when she was ten years old, two boys who were both a year older than her, pushed her too far and she snapped. The incident ended with both boys in hospital. The family decided to home school Mio from then on, until she joined her sisters at Mahoutokoro. The reason they did this was not so much for the muggles safety but for their own. They have since tried to avoid muggles as much as possible.

Mio was thrilled when she eventually joined her sisters at school. However due to what had happened in elementary school, Mio was far more shy and reserved in Mahoutokoro. She did make a small group of friends who had the same likes as her and they would spend many hours, talking about quidditch and potions, Mio's two passions. However not long into her first term as a boarding student, Mio learned that she was going to be moving to the UK because her mother who is a notable potions mistress had been invited to advise potioneers at St Mungo's Hospital and her father who worked in the Japanese Ministry of Magic, was being transferred to the Ministry of Magic in London. Hiromi and Izumi, had both graduated by then and had found jobs, so they were going remain behind in Japan. Mio, Nao, Mai and Aya who were all still at school meanwhile, would all be going with their parents to the UK.

After saying their goodbyes in Japan, the family bought and moved into a large manor on some land in the hilly area in the north-west part of the town of Loughton, Essex, England. The area surrounding the manor is characterised by steep hills, narrow lanes and high holly hedges. Once settled in, Mio's parents arranged for Mio and her sisters to attend Hogwarts. After formalities had been completed all four girls where sent off to the school. How Mio now spends her remaining school years there, only time will tell.

It was just before lunch and all was quiet as a young girl made her way through the courtyard. Kaori had decided to get her homework done and dusted so that she could do other things (ie, listening to music) when she got back to her dorm room after classes. Kaori had not fancied doing her work in the library, so she had headed outside. Finding a quiet spot on a bench underneath a tree, she sat down and pulled her homework out of her bag.
Kaori's best subjects were Biology, Music and History. However today's homework was History, Physics and Chemistry. Kaori completed her history and chemistry homework with relative ease. Then she turned to her Physics homework which was not one of her strong points and had a go at it. After struggling for a while, she gave up and stuffed it back in her bag and retrieved a music magazine to read instead.

"Curse physics, I don't see why we have to learn it" Kaori muttered quietly as she began to flick through the magazine. Sunlight filtered through the leaves casting dappled patches of light on the ground. Her irritation at the physics homework was soothed away by the quietness of her surroundings and before long, the young girl had drifted off into a light sleep.
