Character History: Margaret Bennett would like to claim that she is a pure blooded witch through and through simply because breeding matters, darling. Unfortunately that's not the case, though she doesn't mind fibbing and forgetting a few relatives on her father's side. Samuel Stirling and Helen Stirling had very little to say about their marriage. Both born from very rich and prestigious backgrounds their parents felt it was up to them to find their children suitable matches. Leave it to their child's own whims and they might pick a muggle or someone poor with ginger hair.
Their marriage was more of a business arrangement than a union of love. Samuel had a seat on the Wizengamot while Helen stayed at home. The couple had two children, Margaret and Liam. Margaret adored her younger brother and tried very hard to be a good big sister. One day Helen took her children with her to Knockturn Alley and left Margaret in charge of Liam while she was inside Borgin and Burkes negotiating the sale of a family heirloom as the family had fallen on hard financial times. A haggard old woman struck up conversation with the children. She distracted Margaret with candy as she lured Liam away. The woman was not a witch like Margaret thought but a hag and she made a meal out of Liam.
Helen was enraged that her daughter could let something like that happen. She blamed her entirely for the incident and grew very cold towards her. Margaret's childhood took a less happy turn. At age eleven she received her Hogwarts letter and upon the start of school in September she was shorted into Slytherin, earning her fathers approval.
Margaret was cunning and ambitious, fitting perfectly in the house of the serpent. Margaret made some close friends in her house who helped shape her ideas of blood purity. One of which was a boy two years ahead of her named William Bennett. In her fifth year the two began dating, keeping a close relationship via owl after he graduated. Once she was done with Hogwarts the two became engaged and married. For their honeymoon they were to spend a week at a secluded farmhouse in the Belgium countryside. On their first night the moon was full and William awoke to a commotion outside. When he went to investigate he was attacked by a werewolf. Margaret managed to apparate away, bringing a mortally wounded William with her via side along apparition. By the time they reached a hospital William had died of his injuries.
When Margaret returned from her 'honeymoon' she found work in a nice entry level position in the Ministry's law division and began to work her way up the political ladder. Eventually she earned a seat on the Wizengamot where she voted to expel Harry and though her side did not win she developed a dislike for the boy. When the Second Wizarding War broke out Margaret did not align herself with either side. While she thought purebloods were better than muggleborns she saw no advantage to siding fully with the Death Eaters nor with the Order. She sat on many muggle born hearings but did not act with malice towards the accused. Eventually Voldemort fell but some of his followers remained at large, seemingly recruiting creatures to do their bidding. Margaret hated creatures, having been robbed of two important people in her life because of them.
The wizarding world began to grow frustrated with Minister Shacklebolt's inability to stamp out the remaining pockets of death eaters and that's where Margaret saw her opportunity. The Wizarding World needed a new leader who would promise to bring an end to the dark age and provide peace and prosperity. She campaigned and rallied, eventually managing to oust Kingsley Shacklebolt from his spot as acting Minister of Magic.
Minister Bennett doesn't much care about the death eaters but she absolutely will not tolerate the creatures.
