Margaret Bennett considered her reign as Minister to be very successful. She created her own special task force, the Enforcers who's initial role was to ensure her creature legislation was being followed but had turned into a sort of secret police. Often they would return with useful tidbits of information about things or people that would become problematic, allowing her to squash them before they even had a chance. When one of her aurors began acting strangely she tasked one of her Enforcers with the responsibility of finding out why. To maintain her control she had to keep all her pawns in order and ferret out the dangerous radicals before they had a chance to rally followers. Crush their ideals and crush their spirit and she would have an absolutely obedient army.
The Enforcer's investigation work had returned with nothing concrete and damning on it's own, but there was a lot to be suspicious about so Margaret decided to do a little bit of investigating of her own. She got authorization for the use of veritaserum through coercion and intimidation. In time such a silly thing wouldn't be needed, the witch would hold absolute power but until then, she would go through the motions. The key to things such as veritaserum was not to arouse suspicion. To force the person to drink it got their guard up, made them apt to try and fight it but if they unknowingly ingested the potion then there was no resistance. Minister Bennett would make something as innocuous as tea into a weapon and no one in their right mind would refuse a cup of tea from the Minister.
Margaret was seated at her desk, tipping the contents into a delicate kettle into a cup when Ezra was led into her elegant but austere office. "Auror Widler." She greeted him with a cold but perfect smile. "Have a seat please, tea?" She asked as she was already sliding the saucer and cup over to him, leaving no room for him to decline. She had her own cup as well, poured before he arrived and she'd added the veritaserum to the kettle. "I've asked you here because I've notice you've not quite been yourself. Are you still enjoying your job as an Auror?"
