Waiting

Cassidy waited...and waited...and waited. In all fairness, she had gotten to Hogsmeade way early (she had a nasty habit of earliness), but she kind of figured Jasmine might show up early too...being so excited to see her after a month and all. And stuff. But alas, Cassidy was kept waiting a whole five minutes after the time they'd agreed upon - and then the owl found her. The little beast perched right on her shoulder and dropped a note at her feet.
Jasmine was cancelling on her...because she had to study.
Cassidy was now wandering aimlessly through an autumnal Hogsmeade, because her favorite season was about the only thing that could take her mind off the disappointment she felt. Disappointment, and a million other things she was too afraid to give a name to. She was beginning to feel like she'd made a big mistake by not acting on her feelings over the summer and letting Jasmine go back to school, none the wiser. Even if it was unspoken, Cassidy thought Jasmine felt the same way and that it could wait. Maybe none of that was true. Cassidy couldn't bear the thought of that. She took deep breaths of autumn air and tried not to have the thought at all.
What with its being in the mountains at all, autumn was really more like pre-winter in Hogsmeade. When the nip in the air turned Cassidy's nose and fingers red, she took refuge in the Three Broomsticks. Not for alcohol - that was way too sharp of a reminder - but for a nice, warm butterbeer. Cassidy tucked herself into an armchair by the gigantic, roaring hearth and nursed her drink, staring into the flames. The pub was crowded and Cassidy hated crowds, but she didn't really want to be alone right now either.
