Jasmine and Cassidy needed to talk about stuff, because a lot of stuff happened and their unspoken refusal to talk about it was creating problems. It made her ditch Cass on a Hogsmeade weekend. As much as Jasmine wanted to see her, she was floundering along under a mountain of school work and studying that weekend, leaving her completely incapable of coping with the confusion that seemed to pop up whenever they were near. Cassidy was her best friend but sometimes that friendship didn't feel like enough. She couldn't even hug the former Slytherin anymore. The smell of her hair, the warmth of her body.. it drew her in. Jasmine wanted to touch her hair and her lips and... It was very very confusing, given that she and the rest of her friends used to fawn over tall, handsome male Quidditch stars in The Witch Weekly.
A little bit of this drama spilled out when she finally cracked under the pressure of her impending NEWTs, spilling out all her insecurities about being too thick and failing out of Hogwarts completely, getting her wand snapped like the half giant groundskeeper. See how stupid she was? She bailed out on seeing her best friend. Only an idiot would do that, now Cassidy was mad. Professor Lupin was strangely sympathetic to her plight and offered to arrange a trip to Hogsmeade to mend fences with Cassidy. Jas jumped on the offer and wrote Cass an owl (or three) begging her to meet her at The Three Broomsticks and promising that she would be there too. For real, this time. No last minute owls ditching her.
The Gryffindor wasn't feeling very brave when she and Professor Lupin walked the path between Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. The anticipation was making her feel nervous and excited. Nervous that Cassidy wouldn't show up, or that she would still be mad if she did and excited that she'd get to see the girl for the first time in over a month. Cassidy was her favorite person to see, even if there was going to be a scowl on her face. She would still be prettier than any other girl in Hogsmeade.
Jasmine stood awkwardly outside of the door to the pub, pulling at the sleeves of her scarlet and gold sweater and just generally fidgeting to appear occupied while she waited for Cassidy to make her appearance so they could work on their stuff. Or not, so she could throw out that 'stuff' and move on.

If nothing else, it was a reason to visit Hogsmeade. Cassidy was trying not to get her hopes up too high, even after Jasmine's three letters, that anything was going to happen today. It was just another day, and another visit to her favorite place to be in autumn. She was here to look at the quickly changing leaves, and drink all of the warm butterbeer...and maybe, just maybe, talk to Jasmine. If she showed up this time. Cassidy couldn't lie - that still hurt a bit, being ditched. Mostly because it was Jasmine that ditched her, not just anybody else, but Jasmine. Thinking too much further into that inspired too much of that hopefulness in Cassidy that she was trying to avoid - so she tried not to think about it at all.
That effort, of course, flew out the window as soon as she got to the Three Broomsticks and saw Jasmine waiting for her outside. Cassidy smiled and nearly ran the rest of the way. Completely contrary to her nature, she'd forced herself not to be early to their meeting, so she wouldn't be the one left waiting again. And look - Jasmine was here! Waiting for her! Cassidy wanted to hug her - but, she didn't. With hoping suddenly bubbling back up within her, came lots of anxiety as well. All those things she was avoiding thinking about were demanding her attention. Cassidy went with, "Hi! I like your sweater." Cassidy was all eyes for that sweater and the person wearing it, so it took her several moments to notice Professor Lupin lurking nearby. "And hi, Professor. Thanks for...er, this." After greetings were made, Cassidy led the way inside.
Professor Lupin offered to buy them drinks and then get out of their hair, so Cassidy graciously ordered a warm butterbeer and then looked around for appropriate seating. They should probably sit somewhere sort of private, right? That made Cassidy nervous, too. She settled for a booth in the middle of a row, empty on both sides. She pointed and looked back at Jasmine. "Wanna sit there?"

It wasn't long before Cassidy's curly brown hair caught the corner of Jasmine's eye. It made her pulse quicken and heart jump into her throat. The whole sensation left the seventh year feeling rather breathless and like she'd been confunded. The impulse to flee struck Jasmine hard but she was trapped with Cass already making her way over. Jasmine waited 'til Cassidy spoke to look up at the older girl, a tight lipped smile on her face. "Oh.. Thanks." She liked her sweater and it made her feel a little giddy and self conscious at the same time. Jasmine looked back down at her sleeves and gave them another tug down over her wrists. "It's either a bit short or I'm too long."
That was such a lame and awkward thing to say, but Jasmine felt stiff and awkward herself. She tucked her hands into her pockets and looked back at her fellow witch. "I like yours too." They likely would have stood and stared all day, has Cassidy not noticed Professor Lupin's presence. "Yeah, thanks." Jas managed to tack on, having forgotten he was there moments earlier. They filed into the pub and Jasmine ordered a bottle of butterbeer for herself before she slipped into the booth that Cassidy brilliantly picked out. It afforded them the most privacy out of any other spot in the bar.
For once in her life, Jasmine had nothing to say as they sat there. She distracted herself by fidgeting with her bottle of butterbeer, giving her an excuse not to look at Cassidy. It worked for a minute or two, but the silence was thick and suffocating, it felt wrong. "So... " she finally started, peeking at the former Slytherin from underneath her own curls. "I'm really sorry about standing you up but NEWTs and all..." It felt like Cassidy deserved an explanation beyond 'sorry, studying' but Jasmine didn't know what to tell her. She sort of knew why she had a hard time being around Cass and was just firmly in denial, but she started talking anyway."I was trying to finish up some homework and sometimes you're really distracting. Like when we hang out I can't think right afterwards."

Cassidy laughed a bit too loudly at Jasmine's observation on her sweater, and the girl's cheeks reddened. Oh, gosh. This was ridiculous - and strangely relieving, in a way. Cassidy and Jasmine had finally reached a point where things could be ignored no longer. It was now painful to be together without acknowledging those things - so, no matter which way today went, at least those things would finally come to light. Cassidy was both nervous and excited.
And Jasmine liked her sweater! Cassidy was just a bit too giddy about that as she led the group into the pub. They both ordered the same drink, too, before slipping into a quiet booth. Professor Lupin was back almost as soon as they sat down, sliding them butterbeers before disappearing. Cassidy didn't pay much attention to where he went - she was now fully occupied with Jasmine, up close and personal. Jasmine, on the other hand, was preoccupied with the table...and her bottle...and her hands and anything else that wasn't Cassidy. It made Cassidy grin. Jasmine was her bold and brave Gryffindor; it was relieving to know she had to be feeling as twisted up and bubbly inside as Cassidy right now.
Then she started to talk, and the color returned to Cassidy's cheeks in full force. Right. Acknowledging things. Today wasn't just about funny feelings but also talking about those funny feelings. "It's okay," she said quickly, in the middle of Jasmine's apology. She really wanted the other girl to know she wasn't mad, just let down. Then Jasmine said something else, something that froze up Cassidy's tongue and her brain and any other part of her involved in the production of words. Jasmine found Cassidy distracting. Now that was the word for it, wasn't it?
"I'm sorry," she said, not really sure why she was apologizing. Jasmine didn't exactly sound upset that Cassidy was distracting. "I know the feeling. I...er, feel like I spend all the time after seeing you, thinking about when I'm going to see you again. It's...confusing, isn't it?" Oh, gosh. Was that too much? Did that make any sense? Cassidy took a giant gulp of butterbeer to reset her brain.
