Keegan Cormac Kearney |
Technically unemployed, totally a Death Eater / 26 years old, born December 9th / Halfblood / Male |
Single || Heterosexual |
APPEARANCE
Played by Chris Cornell when he was a lil baby (link)
DESCRIPTION:Keegan's eyes are grey-green, much like a murky sea. Almond shaped, they almost appear small because of his heavy brow, lids, and the natural dark circles underneath. His hair is dark brown and down past his shoulders. Keegan’s hair is very curly, so when wet, it falls far down his back. He usually keeps it parted down the middle, but it often goes unkempt. Facial hair is also prominent on the man – thick and brown, encapsulating the bottom half of his face. He doesn’t shave often.
Keegan is six feet, two inches tall. He’s almost lithe; rail thin from a myriad of poor habits and a malnourished childhood spent in the underbelly of society. Bad tattoos and scars cover a good portion of his skin. Keegan is loose in multiple senses of the word. He’s never had much of a grip on his mind, and that reflects outwardly. He fidgets, twitches, never stops moving – and his gestures are big, taking up more than his fair share of personal space. He about looks like he’s going to fall apart at the sockets, the way he stands and sits all stretched out. One common manifestation of his inability to stay still and proper is his constant playing with his hair. He runs his hands through it, pulls at the curls, and scratches his beard almost nonstop.
PERSONALITY
POSITIVE TRAITS:Fast, can squeeze into small spaces, strong survival instinct, high stamina, enthusiastic.
NEGATIVE TRAITS:Abrasive, selfish, easy to manipulate, socially inept, bigoted.
LIKES:Food all of the food every bit of it doesn't matter what it is, the color orange, kittens, fireworks shows.
DISLIKES:Inaction, restrictions and arbitrary rules, the smell of onions.
HOBBIES:Gambling, watching Quidditch, wreaking havoc.
GENERAL PERSONALITY:To quote the great (though not in Keegan’s opinion) Albus Dumbledore, of the types of people that are drawn into the Death Eater crowd, Keegan is of the “thuggish gravitating toward a leader who could show them more refined forms of cruelty” variety. Before ever even knowing about the organization of Voldemort’s followers, Keegan was always a cruel and nasty fellow. He takes pleasure in the distress of others, randomly picking fights or lashing out at innocent people, just to get a rise out of them. Keegan lives fueled by adrenaline, and he hardly ever stops to rest, much less to think about his actions. He does what feels good in the moment – not what’s right, or what could help him out later.
Simply put, Keegan lives for chaos. He cares for no one, hardly even himself. He will always put himself first, but will gladly take damage and abuse to his mind and body, if that’s what the situation calls for. Keegan does have a strong will to live, though, and that’s when the selfishness kicks in. He will keep himself alive at the cost of every other person on the planet, if he has to.
Keegan has absolutely no social skills, and doesn’t care to, either. In his mind, you’re either going to let him use you to gain something for himself, or you’re in his way. He’s downright nasty and mean to most people, and holds on to many stereotypes, no matter how outdated or inaccurate they may be. Keegan’s lack of social cues, however, causes him to be incredibly easy to manipulate – hence the whole Death Eater thing. The man could care less about morality, righteousness, pureness – all that crap – but he’s easily recruited into situations where he can smell the danger. All you have to do is entice Keegan with promises of destruction and/or blood, and he’s all yours to use in whatever way necessary.

Character History:The Kearneys hail from Ireland. Their family lineage there goes back ages, though no one’s bothered to keep track of it. They have a proper mix of Muggle and Wizarding blood, leaning more toward producing more wizards/witches than Muggles, if only because of the close-knit Magical communities they tend to settle in.
Both Sullivan and Coreen grew up in the same mid-sized Irish city, in the same Wizarding slum known affectionately to its residents as Little Diagon. Being around the same age, they attended Hogwarts together, but didn’t interact much during their time there. Sullivan left the school when he was sixteen, feeling as there was nothing really for him there. He returned to his city and picked up odd jobs for neighbors. Coreen graduated a few years later, and came back home, as well. Living in such close proximity and being so close in age, it was kind of bound to happen. It wasn’t romantic, or anything worth writing about, but Coreen eventually became pregnant with her first child, Cael, and married Sullivan because of it. Between having babies, she worked as a diner waitress. They lived under Voldemort’s first rule, though weren’t especially bothered by it. No one in their section of the city had anything worth coveting or destroying.
There were three children before Keegan came along. With each child born, more and more financial burden was added to the family. They all eventually had to move from their flat to Coreen’s parents’ place – conveniently, in the same building. Both Sullivan and Coreen started developing tendencies of alcoholism between the births of Keegan and Maire, so they were actually very lucky to have Coreen’s parents around.
Voldemort’s first reign ended just a few years after Keegan was born; he grew up in a time where the Wizarding community was trying to rebuild itself. None of this mattered, however, in Little Diagon. The people living there were poor, with nothing of interest to even bring the Death Eaters close. During the war, they lived with it pretty much never touching them. Fret not, though; these people had plenty of other things to worry about. Abject poverty and stagnation, to name a few, along with both a Muggle government and a Wizarding Ministry that had pretty much forgotten about them.
These are the conditions in which Keegan Kearney grew up – with no one truly caring about him or what he did. There were three siblings before him, and one after with generally poor health who required a lot of attention. There just wasn’t time for Keegan. He floated through his childhood dirty and neglected, soaking in hatred and rage for the people who couldn’t bother to give a shit about him. Thus, Keegan developed antisocial tendencies pretty early on in his life, before ever even getting to Hogwarts. He spent time with his older brothers and sister (who faced much the same level of neglect as he did) as they drank, smoked, stole, and fought; fostering an unhealthy appreciation for violence and disarray. He himself took more than his fair share of beatings. Beyond instigating fights he knew he couldn’t win, Keegan was often hounded upon for his ‘soft heart’: the young boy could often be found feeding and taking care of the alley cats that lived in their slums.
When the Kearneys were finally evicted from their flat for months of nonpayment, things only got worse. Keegan was ten when this happened, and jumping to get away from it all. His grandparents were strict and abusive, and his parents became alcoholics. Listening to the stories of his older siblings, Hogwarts sounded like just the place to escape from it all.
The school was not at all what Keegan expected. His older siblings were a bit more mentally balanced than him, and they were able to adjust to the boarding-school lifestyle. Keegan, however, simply could not. He found the rules and limitations placed upon the students to be completely arbitrary and wholly ridiculous. The other students were even worse – rough-scrubbed little brats with huge senses of entitlement. There were a few students the boy got along with, ones just like him, seemingly in trouble every day for beating up first years or setting toilets on fire.
It was a wonder Keegan was never kicked out of the school; he took care of that himself, however. After his fifth year, he just didn’t go back (and made sure to break the nose of anyone who compared him to his father). At sixteen, he was allowed to take care of himself – though, he wasn’t necessarily capable of this. He rolled with different crowds throughout the city, gravitating to the underbelly leaders with the greatest tendencies for cruelty and violence. They made sure he didn’t die from starvation or cold, and he did whatever nasty tasks they needed done. Keegan never returned to his family after leaving Hogwarts; he ran into them in the city, sometimes, but by this point, they had about as much interest in him as he did in them.
This all led to a pretty natural transition to the Death Eaters, when Voldemort rose to full power again. This time, his takeover was truly worldwide, reaching its fingers even into Little Diagon. Keegan dove into the opportunity immediately – Voldemort’s people were wreaking havoc and destruction on a larger scale than the young man could ever have dreamed of. Keegan had a good, if somewhat short, run with the Death Eaters while they were still in their full power. He was often used as cannon fodder or for grunt work, and loved every minute of it. Ever since Voldemort was taken out once more at the Battle of Hogwarts, Keegan has been evading capture by sneaking around like the rat he is. He still partakes in a touch of chaos every now and then, just to let the world know what's always waiting in the shadows for them.
