Ministry Application
Department of Magical Law Enforcement : Auror
Aje Odili
24 - Male - March 31 - Muggleborn
Appearance
Celebrity Claim: Dayo Okeniyi
Example Links: Link 1 - Link 2 - Link 3
General Appearance:
Tall and dark, some might consider Aje handsome, others consider him intimidating. He carries himself with pride, head up and shoulders back. Despite his size, Aje moves quickly and quietly. When he feels strongly about something Aje often resorts to talking with his hands. That coupled with his reluctance to use a wand occasionally results in accidental displays of magic. Others would describe him as aloof or restrained, he favors a closed mouth smile over a full on grin. Even so, the man's got dimples to die for.
Personality
Positives: Reserved, level headed, observant, graceful, good under pressure, family oriented, hard working, polite, talented at transfiguration and astronomy,
Negatives:Introverted, pessimistic, anal retentive, stubborn, hypercritical, traditional
Pet Peeves: Laziness, rudeness, bossiness, clutter,
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual (like all my characters, apparently)
Hobbies & Interests: Alchemy, Astronomy, Flying, Quidditch, Yoga
Additional Magical Abilities: Animagus- Badger. Per Pottermore students at Uagadou were particularly skilled in things like transfiguration and were known to participate in synchronized Animagus transformations.
Wandless- Students at Uagadou do not embrace wands as they are a European invention and learn to do magic via gestures and pointing. Aje reluctantly owns a wand in an attempt to fit in and embrace his new culture but rarely uses it
Overall Personality:
Aje is reserved and can often be found on the periphery of large groups. While not anti-social he prefers to hang back and observe others instead of joining in on the conversation. Initially he can come off as stand offish but once someone worms their way into his heart he is a friend for life. He has a strong sense of loyalty and family. Growing up he was often left to care for his siblings as the designated 'man of the house' and along the way he developed a tendency to mother those he cares for.
Current Politics
How was your character affected by the reign of Lord Voldemort?
He was removed from the conflict, originating in Nigeria.
Where does your character stand with the Omega vs Proteger?
As Aje was removed from the entire Voldemort conflict he does not feel he is informed enough to make a decision either way.
What are your character's thoughts on the present Centaur revolt at Hogwarts?
He doesn't think land is something that can be owned and must be shared peacefully. Considering the two effected parties can not figure out how to share the land on their own a mediator (like the ministry) needs to be brought in.
Family
Parents: Abiola (Mother) Ebiowei (Father)
Siblings: 6 siblings, his favorite being his sister Ifiok
Partner: None
Children: None
Other Notable Family: None
Family History:
Abiola was born in a Nigerian village so small that one would be very hard pressed to find it on a map. The family lived in a ramshackle home, wallowing in abject poverty. She was the fourth of five children but grew up as the baby of the family, losing her baby brother to famine and sickness. Despite the dire circumstances Abiola was a joyful child known for her kind nature and striking beauty. Abiola managed to catch the eye of a local family that while not wealthy, lived more comfortably than most of the village.
The oldest son of said family was a young man named Ebiowei and in the market for a bride. Abiola brought a large dowry and was married off, improving her stature in life. At first the pair had no warm feelings for each other. Abiola found Ebiowei to be distant and serious, not a good match to her spontaneous and free spirit. Over time the couple warmed up too each other, finding that their differences balanced each other.
Shortly after marriage Ebiowei found a government job in the city of Abuja. He and his new wife moved to begin their life. There as they began to develop their love for each other the couple had many children. They lived happily and comfortably until tragedy struck. Ebi was on his way home from work one night and had stopped into the local grocer to bring home milk. As he was cashing out his purchase two men armed with shot guns and masks stormed the store, demanding the money. Ebi was always raised to be a brave man and attempted to intervene when one of the robbers threatened the store clerk. Unfortunately this brash moved cost Ebi his life.
Without Ebi to lead and support the family they fell on very hard times. Abi, pregnant at the time of Ebi's death, was short on marketable skills and struggled to make ends meet. This plunged their family into poverty and forced Aje to step up as man of the house.
Character
Character History:
One unusually sweltering hot day in March, Abi was rushed to the local hospital to give birth to the first of many children, her beloved son Aje. The baby was a quiet and easy child, crying very little and soothing easy. Aje was doted on by both his mother and father for the first year of life and not long after, Abi was pregnant again. His family grew to be quite large but they did not want for anything. Ebi worked hard at his government job and provided them with a comfortable living.
The loss of his father ruined Aje's happy ever after. It plunged him into a period of depression. His mother tried very hard to find adequate work but it was very difficult. On top of that, Aje became a 'problem child'. Weird and unexplained things would happen around him. Things would fly off the shelves when he was upset, broken things would spontaneously mend themselves, objects changed color. It was very odd and his mother and siblings found it unsettling. These strange events were all explained one night to Aje while he was sleeping. A lynx came to him in a dream and told him that he was very special and possessed the ability to do magic. It was surreal and confused poor Aje. The dream felt so real, but surely lynxes do not talk. When he woke up, he found a small stone inscribed with a message in his hand. He was a wizard and had been accepted into Uagadou school of magic.
His mother thought this was a trick but some days later they were visited by a representative from the school who was able to demonstrate their magical ability. His new found specialness helped pull Aje out of his depression. At school he flourished. He was an excellent student and a quick study. He became popular and discovered that he was very athletic. His large frame and quick reflexes made him an excellent keeper. In his last year of school a scout from Puddlemere United owled him and was interested in recruiting him. Aje was very conflicted. He loved his family but a professional quidditch player made a great deal of money. After much consideration he accepted the invitation and moved to the UK with the promise to eventually bring his family to England, to give them a better life.
He fit well with the rest of the team and did well with Puddlemere. Despite the demanding schedule Aje also applied for a job as an Auror-In-Training. He needed a fall back career for when Quidditch ended, plus the extra income could be sent to his family back in Nigeria. Aje has had a few minor run ins with the law due accidental magic when Aje gestured too much during heated conversations. A few months after arriving to England he reluctantly bought a wand but rarely uses it.
First Instance of Magic:
Aje was only eight and in charge of babysitting his siblings. The youngest of the 'pack' was sick and his mother was out trying to find work to buy her child medicine. Aje wanted to play music on his drum to soothe the sick boy but found that his mother had placed it on the high shelf. He attempted to stack everything in his house he could find so he could climb up and get his drum. He scaled the tower of books and stools but it tipped over. Instead of crashing to the floor, Aje floated safely down.
What would your character see in the Mirror of Erised?
All five of his siblings and mother in the stands at one of his matches.
What are your character's future aspirations?
He would like to make enough money to move his entire family from Nigeria to London where he currently lives.
