It had been a crazy day. Not that Ashley minded. She would far rather be hurrying from one case to the next than filling out paperwork in an effort to avoid general clinic. Besides, she loved the rush she got from the more exciting cases. So while she was definitely tired as she stepped through the doors of the manor into the elaborate entry hall with its marble floor, there was nevertheless a weary smile on her face. She took off her acid green robes and draped them over a chair she left beside the door for just this purpose. It was easier for Mimi the house elf to find them there. That left Ashley in a pair of dark grey slacks and a short-sleeved white blouse. She might prefer more modern clothing over traditional wizarding robes, but that didn’t meant she couldn’t still look nice.
“I’m home!” she called as she stepped further into the high-ceilinged entryway that cut straight through the bottom two floors of the building. Her voice echoed lightly in the openness of the large house. Aunt Catherine’s voice answered back from somewhere, slightly muffled by the walls between them. Something about dinner in an hour. As if Ashley needed to be told that. The upper class might have fallen, but some things, like the meal schedule at the manor, would never change. “Okay!” she yelled back. There had been a time five years ago when yelling in this house had been greatly frowned upon. But her stickler father was dead now, and Catherine and Ashley both took a slightly more relaxed stance on propriety given all that had happened in the years since. Not to mention the house was too bloody big to actually go looking for someone every time you needed them.
That just left Kallisto. Ashley looked up at the second floor railing surrounding the top of the entrance hall in search of her cousin. Any second now she would hear the younger girl’s voice and two smaller feet scrambling to make it to the entrance hall. Unless, of course, Kallie had decided to hide. In which case it could be a long evening because Merlin only knew how many hiding places there were in this house. Even after twenty-one years, Ashley still wasn’t sure she knew them all. Then again, that was precisely what made the game so fun. “Kallie?” Ashley called as she headed for the stairs. She had put in her time as an adult today. Now she wanted to relax and have some fun with her cousin.

Kallisto was quite bored being at home all the time. But her house elf, Mimi made sure that she was occupied and doesn't wander off. At present, Kalli was sitting cross legged on the floor, her blonde hair falling on her face as she scrunched up her face in concentration. She was trying to pile up the blocks she brought the last time and tried to make sure that the tower she made was not going to fall. She began to pile one on top of another and turned around to pick another block, only to see that the tower she raised collapsed n ground. Frustrated with it, she called for Mimi and began to wail, "it is not staying like that. i wanted to show sissy what I did today, but it falls down".If Kallie knew anything, then it was the fact that Mimi would do anything for her, and true to it, the elf snapped its fingers and the now scattered blocks were piled one against another. She clapped her hands together just as she heard the voice of Ashley indicating that she was back home from her work. She quickly ran down the halls of the second floor and peeked through the railing just as she heard her call out her name.
Giggling loudly, she shouted back, "Kallie is not coming out. Come find me sissy". No sooner did she say it out loud, she ran through the second floor quickly looking for a place to hide laughing loudly. She looked around and spotted the nursery room and quickly ducked into the room just as she got a glimpse of blonde hair. She went towards the small changing table and hid beside it waiting for her Ashley to find her out.

There was a familiar flash of hair over the second floor railing, followed by a series of giggles. Ashley grinned as her cousin shouted out a challenge. She was most definitely wrapped around that little girl’s finger. So were Graham and Mimi. The only person who could actually tell her no was Catherine, and even that didn’t happen as often as it probably should’ve. Maybe they were all just overcompensating in their effort to protect Kallie from the world outside. But how could someone look at that beautiful smile and those big eyes while that sweet little voice called them Sissy and not feel their heart melting straightaway?
Ashley quickened her pace up the stairs, reaching the top just in time to see a flash of color disappearing into the small hallway that led to the nursery. “You better hide, little girl,” she called playfully. “I’m going to find you!” Mimi came out into the hallway and shrugged her thin shoulders innocently as if she had absolutely no idea where Kallie was. The house elf had definitely loosened up in the last few years. Not that she had ever been unkind exactly. But the remaining members of the family definitely treated her better than Ashley’s father and brother had, and somewhere over the years, she had developed a devotion to them that seemed to be far more by choice than requirement. Particularly where Kallie was concerned.
The doors to the bedrooms between the stairs and nursery were open, so Ashley made a noisy show of opening and closing them as she searched in vain for her cousin. Despite the fact that much of the house, particularly the third floor, rarely saw use anymore, the doors were always left unlocked. Mostly because having this much room to explore kept Kallie from getting into more trouble than she did. The one exception was Alec’s room, which Ashley had locked up tight with magic the day her brother was sentenced to Azkaban. She had no idea what dark objects might be hiding in there, and she had no desire to find out. But neither could she quite bring herself to empty it out, even after he had nearly killed her. So instead the door stayed locked with magic, undistributed for the last five years.
Ashley’s feet finally carried her to the nursery door. She carefully eased it open, smiling at the sound of muffled giggles. “Where could she possibly be?” she mused. She walked slowly across the room to let the tension build. When she caught sight of Kallie’s feet sticking out, she purposefully turned the other way as if she hadn’t the faintest clue where her cousin was. “I wonder…”
Satisfied that Kallie would be good and tense, Ashley spun around with a victorious cry and caught hold of Kallie’s arms, tugging the girl to her feet. “I’ve got you!” She wrapped her cousin up in a tight hug and spun Kallie around with a laugh. When she finally set Kalllie down, Ashley collapsed onto the floor with a dramatic sigh as if she was completely exhausted. Mimi had appeared in the doorway, and there was definitely a hint of a smile on the house elf’s face. Ashley was smiling too as she pushed herself up so she was leaning back on her arms. Merlin, she loved that little girl. Kallie felt far more like her baby sister than her cousin. “How was your day?”

Kallie loved to play hide and seek with her sister whom she fondly calls as sissy. Ever since Kallie could remember, she called her as such and even after all these years, the name stuck to her. Nobody insists her to change it, and she is glad to call her god-mother as sissy. Sometimes, she calls her Ash, some times it is just sissy but every time she does it, she could see a bright smile on Ashley's face. She liked to see her smile, and to Kallie's happiness Ashley always smiles when she talks to her and plays with her. Kallie always feels a little too much proud, for making sissy smile and laugh. She always loves to play around her and though she has a rough day at work, she never even shows it on her face. Kallie giggled at Ash's response, and was happy to play with her. She looked at Mimi who was standing at the hallway putting her fingers against her mouth she said 'don't tell sissy, where I am or else I will not eat greens'. And as if that could stop the elf, Kallie made her way into the nursery where she once spent her time. She could listen to the voice of sissy and the opening of the doors. She could not stop the giggles as Ash tried her best to find her. She peeked from under the table and saw that Ash was now in the nursery too. She giggled behind her napkin as she saw that Ash could not find her. But to Kallie's surprise, Ash turned around and spotted her. “I’ve got you!” Kallie burst into a shriek of laughter as she was lifted off from her hiding place. She pouted a little and in between her giggles she managed to say "how did you find me there? You were not supposed to". She collapsed opposite her and propping on both her tiny elbows, she looked at the doorway and spotted Mimi, and looking with as much seriousness, she spoke, "Mimi, you told Ash where I hid. No greens for me today" and with a wide smile she turned to Ashley. She can never hold it against her sissy and so she spoke, "how was your day? Did you miss me, or did you find some one who can make my sissy smile?" Kallie gave a wide smile at the question Ashley asked, how much she loved that single question. And so she began, "well, I made a tower with the blocks we brought the last time we went to the Diagon Alley. I made it all alone"and at Mimi's cough, she sighed a bit dramatically, she added "well, Mimi helped it to stay so it would not tumble down" and poke out her tongue at the elf. Tags : Ashley Avery

Kallie tried to pout over being found, but her smile quickly broke through. Merlin, Ashley loved that smile. Of course Kallie was still too young to realize there were limited hiding places in this room. Ashley bent down and tapped Kallie’s nose with the end of her finger. “Magic.”
Once she ended up on the floor, Kallie quickly followed suit. It didn’t escape Ashley’s notice that her young cousin was trying to mimic her posture. Could that little girl possibly get any more adorable? Kallie tossed a playful accusation at Mimi, and the house elf promptly protested her innocence. “No, no! Mistress Ashley found Mistress Kallie by herself. Mimi did not tell. Mimi would never tell.” Ashley shook her head. “Traitor,” she said with a smile. The house elf shrugged. It was no secret who her favorite in this person family was. She would certainly have obeyed if Ashley had ordered her to give up Kallie’s location, but they both knew Ashley enjoyed the game just as much as Kallie.
The healer grinned when Kallie asked about her day. “It was good. Busy, but good. And of course I missed you. You’re too cute not to miss.” She reached out and affectionately ruffled the top of Kallie’s hair. Sometimes on the bad days she seriously considered just quitting and staying home with Kallie all the time. But the Avery fortune wouldn’t last forever. Sooner or later they would need money. And besides, Ashley really did like her job. She just liked her younger cousin more.
Now they were talking about Kallie’s day. How wonderful it must be to be only eight years old with no bigger worry than making sure her blocks didn’t fall over. “A tower, huh? That sounds pretty cool.” She couldn’t help a small laugh when Kallie stuck her tongue out at Mimi. The little house elf probably deserved a working wage for putting up with the little girl’s antics all the time. But somehow Ashley got the feeling Mimi loved Kallie just as much as the rest of them. “Well, now I have to see it. Come on. You can show it to me.” She pushed herself to her feet and held out her hands to pull Kalie up as well.

Kallie scrunched up her nose as Ash, tapped on it and stuck out her tongue. She lifted her index finger and in a very good imitation of her mother she spoke "it is not fair to use magic" and poked Ash's cheeks. She totally liked to poke around Ash, as she really liked to do it. The blonde girl had nothing to do more than messing around the house and the two witches. Her mother was some one Kallie avoided, not because she did not like her or she was just afraid of the punishment she would give. And one might wonder, what the punishments would be but in reality they were nothing. Catherine usually locks up her vanity draw, and little Kallie hates it as she loves to snoop around her mother's jewelry. So, it was only with Ashley that Kallie enjoys without having to worry about missing anything.
Kallisto looked at the elf as it told about sissy finding on her own, her brows furrowed in deep thought. Her face was scrunched up, and she was tapping her chin with a thoughtful look on her face and at last she spoke "okie, I believe you Mimi. But I want teracle tart today, Pleeeaaase...." and made the best puppy dog eyes, not that it was needed. The elf will do anything Kallie requests for unless it was a little dangerous. Kallie was a self proclaimed princess in the manor, she gets her say in everything. The only one who actually controls her was her other Catherine, but even then it won't last for an hour. Kallie can be totally adorable when she wants and has a huge penchant in charming people with her smiles. She hummed as Ashley spoke about her work and noticed that she did not talk much. Kallie always wanted to see the place where Ash worked, but she never allowed it. Ash says, it is too dangerous for her, but the little blonde thinks that sissy is worried that everyone will say she is cuter than her. Kallie knew that her sissy was cute, but she was more cuter than her.
Kallie gave a bright smile as Ash told that she wanted to see her work. She kissed her cheek and quickly standing up, with her little hands she began to pull her and spoke at the same time "ooh, nice. It is in my room. C'mon I will show you." She looked at Ash and spoke up in her usual way, "oh I read a book on charms today. Did you know that there is a spell to make birds appear? I want to make a bird too, when can I do it?" Kallie grew up with magic around her, but she does not like it that her mother and sissy can use wands, and she is not allowed. Even Mimi does magic, but she is not allowed to do, but she can make the books come to her if she thought hard. Every time, she asks her mother she gives the same answer 'you are too young my Lyra, wait some more time.'
(OOC : I totally like this little one, too cute. And the gif is not helping at all)

It took all of Ashley’s effort not to laugh at Kallie’s impression of Aunt Catherine. This little girl was going to be trouble someday. “I’m sorry,” Ashley said with a smile. It was impossible for anyone to stay mad at Kallie, except maybe Aunt Catherine. And even she didn’t come down as hard as she probably should. Kallie was very much a spoiled princess. And she knew it, as evidenced by the poke she gave Ashley’s cheek.
Just when Ashley thought Kallie couldn’t get any cuter, the little girl went and pulled out the puppy dog eyes. Not that she needed them. Mimi might fuss sometimes, but she would do anything for that little girl. “You’ll have to eat your vegetables first if you want dessert.” One of Aunt Catherine’s rules. Although there was no doubt in Ashley’s mind the little girl could get Mimi to sneak her some tart anyway if she really wanted to.
Like every kid who grew up in a magical household, Kallie was fascinated by magic. And if it weren’t for laws about underage magic, Ashley probably would’ve given in and taught her some spells by now. But probably not this one. Ashley herself had some rather painful memories from that charm. Someone had used it to attack the Slytherin Quidditch team her seventh year, and they had all landed in the hospital wing. But Kallie didn’t know any of that. And Ashley had absolutely no intention of telling her. Instead, she put on her best impressed face. “Really? That’s pretty cool.” Then came the inevitable question about when Kallie could perform magic herself. “Well, when you turn eleven, you’ll be old enough to have your own wand. And then you’ll get to go to Hogwarts and learn all about magic just like I did.” She smiled as an idea occurred to her. “But if you want, we could make our own birds out of paper and I could use a charm to make them fly.” Maybe that would grab Kallie’s attention.

Kallie giggled a little as Ashley said sorry. It was a little different hearing her say it and Kallie has never heard her say that. May be she might have said it when she was younger. As Ash mentioned about the veggies, Kallie pouted a little and said "but I don't want to. Nobody eats them" as though Kallie knows about anyone other than her mother, sister and father. But she is very much an actress who would do anything to escape the greens in her dinner. Usually she can convince Mimi to not add them, but when ever her mother steps up, Kallie knows she will loose the battle. No one can ever say no to her mother's stern voice. And to the delight of Kallie, even her father listens without complaining.
Kallie stood up from her place and began to walk towards her room, which was decorated in light lilac color which was one of the most habitable place in the manor. She looked over her shoulder and spoke up "common, I will show you." And as soon as she entered near the room door she pushed it open and with a small bow she spoke "here is my stack is blocks " and looked proud as if she was presenting a great artifact. It was not as though Kallie knew what an artifact was, much less how they would present it. Kallie listened as Ashley spoke and said " but sissy, I want to swish the wand like you and mommy do". She however served to accept the answer and said "okay, I will wait then."
As Ashley mentioned about making charmed birds, Kallie's face lit up. She gave an enthusiastic nod and said "ooh yes, birds. We will make them and you can make them fly." She looked at the house elf and asked "Mimi, I want colorful parchments to make birds. I want blue, red, yellow, green and no black. It is a yuck color." She turned to look at Ashley and with a hopeful look in her eyes, she asked "will you make the birds with me?

Kallie was clearly trying to be dramatic, but Ashley couldn’t help smiling. That little girl could be a hell of an actress when she wanted to. Merlin only knew what she’d be like as a teenager. “Yeah, I don’t like vegetables either. But you have to eat them so you get big and strong.” Or at least, that was the proper adult response. Ashley might be perfectly willing to hang the rules most of the time, but she certainly had her responsible moments.
She followed Kallie over the younger girl’s room. It had been redone after Aunt Catherine and Kallie moved in to make it more welcoming. Now it was one of the coziest rooms in the place. At the moment, there was a rather impressive stack of blocks on the floor. Kallie’s showmanship certainly helped the spectacle. Ashley whistled. “Wow. That’s pretty incredible. You are one talented little kid.” Truth be told, Kallie could’ve done just about anything and this family would have praised it. But even so, it was pretty incredible that she had gotten the blocks as high as she had. Even if there had been a little help from Mimi. Kallie was understandably eager to get to do magic for herself. Ashley put her arms around the little girl from behind, tugging her into a loose sort of hug. “Someday you will. And then I’ll teach you all sorts of neat spells. I promise.”
The suggestion to make birds went over pretty well. Kallie turned to the house elf, and she looked like quite the lady of the house standing there giving orders. Then the puppy dog eyes were back. As if Ashley could ever say no to that. “Of course. I’ll make some green ones.” Maybe loving green was a requirement of being in Slytherin. Either way, love it Ashley did. And while yellow and blue might be nice enough color, she still couldn’t help feeling just the slightest aversion to red.

Kallie had a thoughtful look on her face at Ashley's answer, 'big and strong'. She scrunched up her face and said "but I want to be beautiful not big and strong ".Her mother always tells her to dress up nicely which Kallie is very glad to do as the young blonde thoroughly enjoys the task. She hauls around the house wearing all her dresses. She gave a small bow when Ash praised and whistled. She gave a small giggle and said " don't let momma hear you whistle. She'll go mad at you". Though she doesn't bother about the rules and the likes, Kallie cannot hear her momma scream and be angry at them. She gave a small shy smile and spoke up " thanks Sissy, tomorrow I'll try to build it to your height." The last part however was one of the last minute decisions taken by Kallie when she heard her praise. You see, the blonde girl totally loves the attention on herself and would gladly try to get more.
As Ashley hugged her from behind, the little one settled in her arms comfortable and spoke up "keep that promise sissy, and one day I'll become just like you." turning around in Ashley's arms she gave her a big hug and a kiss on her cheek. She did a small victory dance when Ashley agreed to help her make birds. She stopped mid dance and looking at Ashley her voice barely coming out "but, sissy I don't know how to do birds. You'll have to teach that to me " She gave a small smile and said " okay, I'll make red ones. " Sometimes Katherine complains at Kallie's odd taste in liking red color when there is nothing doned in red in the whole house. And in fact the whole house has green or silver or black colors except Kallie's room. Mimi brought the colored papers along with some pumpkin juice. Kallie gave a smile and said 'thanks Mimi, you are the best.'

Ashley had to fight back a laugh. Of course Kallie wanted to be beautiful. What little girl didn’t? Especially one who grew up in a place like this surrounded by such fine things. “Well, who says you can’t be both? Girls can be pretty and strong.” Ashley liked to think she herself made a fine example, but she wasn’t actually vain enough to use herself as an example. And she didn’t feel like pulling her aunt into this. Aunt Catherine was definitely strong. Strong willed. Especially when it came to propriety. Just because the world as they knew it had ended didn’t mean they should let what was left go to the wolves. That was another reason she and Ashley tended to butt heads – Ashley really only cared for propriety when it suited her. Like whistling, for example. Definitely not a ladylike noise. Not that Ashley cared. “You mom doesn’t scare me,” she said with a smile. But she said it quietly just in case. No point starting a fight.
Kallie was definitely adorable. And just a bit of a daredevil. The idea of her building a tower as tall as Ashley was admittedly an impressive one. “Well, I can’t wait to see it.” Kallie turned around to return the hug, and Ashley could feel her heart melting. “I’m sure you will be.” In truth, she didn’t really want Kallie to be like her. Life had made Ashley grow up far too fast. She wanted Kallie to be able to hold onto childhood innocence for as long as possible. But right now Kallie thought being Ashley would be great, and Ashley wasn’t about to dampen that enthusiasm with the truth. If Kallie wanted to dream, Ashley was perfectly content to let her.
Mimi was back with colored paper. Honestly, was there anything the house elf wouldn’t do for Kallie? “I can teach you,” Ashley assured her. It had been a long time since she’d made paper birds. But she was pretty sure she could pick it up again. And if not, well, there was always magic. She did raise an eyebrow when Kallie announced she would be making red birds. What was it with that kid and red? She came from a whole family of Slytherins, for Merlin’s sake. Thankfully she had a healthy dose of ambition, so there wasn’t much danger of her ending up in Gryffindor house. But still. Of all the colors that could be her favorite, why did it have to be red? Whatever. Ashley took a sheet of green paper from Mimi and folded it first one way and then another as she tried to remember how to do this. It was starting to come back now. “Here. Start like this.” She held up her own paper so Kallie could see the first two folds.

“Well, who says you can’t be both? Girls can be pretty and strong.” Kallisto looked at her sister in doubt as she spoke. She didn't know if she can be, but thinking about it, Ashley was both. So she some the same, "just like you then. You are strong and beautiful, may be I can be like you. Will I be like you Ashley? When I grow up" Sometimes Kallie was far too innocent and she had no knowledge of how the world works. Living in a house with only get mother and sister for company and a house elf she never knows what's outside and it greatly intrigues her. She gave a cheeky smile as Ashley whispered to her and said "you are, if you were not then you would have spoken loudly ". Kallie spoke with such conviction that one might think she was not an eight year old. But one thing Kallisto grew up listening was her mother's stern voice which never wavers and her lesson of stay bold while talking. She might have her father's face and expressions but the little blonde was a splitting image of her mother's character. Kallisto gave a smile as Ashley hugged her back and was giggling a little. She looked up at her sister and seemingly out of random she said " I wanna go and fly with you later. Okay? Kallie loved to go flying with her sister, but never had she got the chance to go on the air alone. Her mother and sister never allow her to do it and surprisingly that was one thing the blonde never argues with. She only goes flying on the broom if she has Ashley with her. Else that idea is never much appealing to her. Instead she would spend her time ransacking her mother's vanity. How she loved to do that and even today, she did just that and was now sporting her mother's gold chain round her neck which was not seen in her blonde locks. Kallisto took her red colored paper and scrunched up her face in concentration as she watched Ashley fold it twice. She did the same with her paper and held it up for Ashley to see and said "I got it. " She looked at the green colored paper her sister had and said " why do you always pick green? It looks yucky. And ever wall in our home is the same color. " She never understood her family's fascination for that color and always made sure that she complained every single time something green is selected. In Kallie's eyes, green was far too dull and she partially won the argument when it came to get room's walls. But if Kallisto had her way, she would have changed them to red instead of the boring lilac color. (OOC : I'm absolutely and terrifically sorry for the late reply) Tags : Ashley Avery

As much as Ashley didn’t want Kallie to be like her, knowing the little girl looked up to her so much meant a lot. “Sure. If you want to be. You can be however you want when you grow up.” Ashley was going to make sure of that. No war was going to force Kallie to grow up too fast. No amount of prejudice against purebloods was going to crush her vibrant little personality. Someday the whole world was going to be Kallie’s oyster. And Ashley would do whatever was necessary to make that happen. Including standing up to Aunt Catherine. Kallie had a point though. The woman could be a little terrifying when she wanted to be. Not that Ashley ever let it stop her, but still. “Okay, smarty pants,” Ashley said, tapping her cousin playfully on the nose. Honestly, sometimes that kid was too smart for her own good.
The idea of flying brought a smile to Ashley’s face. She loved being a broom any day. But having Kallie in front of her laughing in delight just made it even more fun. “Sure. We can fly all around the gardens.” Kallie didn’t seem to have much interest in flying unless it was with Ashley. Still, the older Avery was convinced she could make a Quidditch player of her cousin yet.
Apparently Kallie had noticed the color issue “I like green because it’s the best,” Ashley said teasingly. “Slytherin house is green, and I was in Slytherin. So was your dad. And my dad and my brother.” Pretty much the entire family had been in the house of the snake. Aunt Catherine had been a Hufflepuff, so she wasn’t always such a fan of the color either. But Avery Manor was technically Ashley’s property, and she liked the green throughout the house. Green carpets trimmed in black, green wallpaper paired with mahogany molding, green upholstery with silver accents, green marble flooring interspersed with squares of grey. It was never glaring, but anyone who actually looked could tell what house most of this family proudly hailed from. It made the place feel like home. Ashley’s own room was done up mostly in green, a combined homage to Slytherin and the Harpies. Alec’s room had been predominantly green as well, although that door had been securely locked since the day the war ended. Ashley had no idea what manner of dark things her Death Eater brother had hidden in there. Nor was she particularly keen on finding out. “Red is a Gryffindor color. They’re the house Slytherin always competes against.” Supposedly the rivalry had gotten much better in recent years. But Ashley still has sharp memories of cruel taunts and bloody trips to the hospital wing. If Kallie did somehow land in that dreadful house, Ashley supposed she could learn to make it work. But she would far rather her little cousin land in Slytherin. Although Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw would both be preferable to the house of the lion.
(OOC - No worries! It happens.)
