While the lace and knickknacks of Madam Puddifoot's weren't exactly Corey's style, the loud personality of the tearoom certainly was - and the man appreciated a fine cup of tea such as was served there, even if he had to sip it out of a teacup decorated with kittens. He liked the place and the tea so much, actually, that he'd drained his first cup and was now placing an order for a second (maybe he'd get peppermint this time). Really it was just because he was waiting for his family to finish up their shopping and he had absolutely no desire to wait outside in the sweltering heat (to Corey, anything above freezing was sweltering) - but the tea was damn good.
D'Angelo and the older kids were at the pranks shop down the street. Corey really had no penchant for pranks unless they were really inspired; gag gifts, he did not consider so. He had their youngest with him, baby Remy, sitting on his lap and munching on bits of croissant handed to him by his father. Just because he was a baby, didn't mean he couldn't be a refined young gentleman at the same time. Only the best for his kids. Corey may have been a might bit of an overprotective father - and he just knew he was going to have trouble with this one in the future. Already, Remy was a friendly little baby, interacting with everyone around him, even strangers - especially strangers. He made his particular brand of happy little baby face at the door as it chimed and someone entered the tearoom, to be promptly doused in confetti from the cherubs in the air. Corey followed Remy's gaze to eye the newcomer with an expression not unlike the child's in his lap, indicative of just who Remy got it from.

It was absolutely stifling outside. Minerva, who refused to wear anything other than witches' robes, was secretly boiling under the burgundy red cloth, but her face showed nothing of it other than a faint flush in her cheeks. Having forgone the broad-brimmed witches' hat she often favoured, she was now regretting it, for at least it would have provided her with some shade - but alas, she was hatless and baking under the English sun. Muttering something about cooking like a lobster, Minerva paused outside Madam Puddifoot's, hesitating slightly. Usually she preferred to give the tea room a wide berth - The Three Broomsticks, and often even the Hog's Head, were preferable - but she was certain that if she took another step she would melt into a puddle, which simply would not do.
Pushing open the door to the tearoom, Minerva was instantly set upon by unnecessary amounts of confetti. Not sure that this was an upgrade from the heat, she brushed at it for a moment (delicately spitting out some pink paper which had settled on her tongue into a discreet hand) and then remembered she was a witch. Flicking a hand, she Vanished the confetti, and then raised the same hand threateningly towards the cherubs as if to say she could do the same to them.
However, she was still going to have some restorative tea, by Merlin, and so she looked around for a place to sit. In the process of doing so, she spotted Professor King, who had filled the dual position of Transfiguration and Head of Gryffindor as she moved into her current position. He was a cheerful personage with, apparently, an even more cheerful baby, and so Minerva found herself waving at them with a small smile on her face. She didn't want to intrude, but manners dictated that she drift over and greet, "Professor King." (Despite repeated protests from a number of people, Minerva's first instinct was to address people formally). "And a little King, I see!" her smile softened at the baby, and she waved in a manner most unlike her. "How have you been?"

Once the cloud of confetti settled, Corey was surprised to see Headmistress McGongall standing in the doorway, haloed all in pink paper - though, there really was no denying his boss. She was a regal woman that exuded class and style in that subtle way only the best could, and in a way that totally stood out from the garish interior of Madam Puddifoot's. Corey wouldn't have pegged Minerva as one to frequent this particular tearoom - but there she was, in all her burgundy glory, Vanishing away handfuls of confetti as simply as swatting away a fly. Corey smiled broadly at her and waved her over.
"Hello, Headmistress," he greeted, affording her the same politeness she always showed him. Honestly, Corey had always been in a bit in awe of Minerva McGonagall. She was what he aspired to be, magically speaking. He was a Master of Transfiguration himself, but there was so much more he could learn. Becoming an Animagus, for one. And that neat little trick about not having to use a wand to cast magic was tempting, too. Corey melted at interaction between lady and baby - he melted at anything his kids did, really, it was all adorable - and picked up Remy's chubby little hand to wave back at Minerva. "This is Remy. Say hi!" He tried to keep the baby voice to a minimum, at least. Remy was a new addition to the world, little more than a year old, and an even newer addition to the Bello-King clan, having just been adopted some months ago. Corey had a difficult time not showing him off to everyone he met.
"Will you join us for tea?" He asked, looking back up at Minerva with that smile of his. He nodded at her question, answering, "I've been very well, thank you. Enjoying the summer despite this killer heat. How about you, taken any much deserved time off?"

Who had conceived this infernally frilly establishment? Minerva wasn't sure, but she hoped Madam Puddifoot (or whoever it was) was consigned to drowning in pink paper in Hades. Waving off the final pieces of paper and sending another spiteful glare towards the cherub - if it came close she would vanish the blasted thing - Minerva turned to the perpetually cheerful Professor King and swept over, sending the glitter and paper on the floor into small whirlwinds as her robes billowed past.
Minerva inclined her head, eyes crinkling in a tiny Minerva Smile. The Transfiguration Professor was nothing really like her personality wise, but she had a soft spot (sssh) for both Gryffindor and Transfiguration, and so she was naturally disposed to like him. (She wasn't unfair, though. The Slytherin Head of House was accorded the same respect!). And who didn't like babies? Not Minerva. She'd never had any of her own, and she found herself getting quite fond of them as she aged. As long as they weren't shrieking. She didn't like the shrieking. "Hello, Remy," she said solemnly, though her eyes sparkled. She glanced at the older King as she waved again. "How old is he?" she asked politely.
"I will, thank you," Minerva decided, and neatly sat. She'd long ago mastered the movement of sweeping all her robes neatly into a seated position, and now it looked effortless (though in her youth there had been many a torn robe..). "I'm glad to hear it. Is your family all well?" She folded her hands on the table and wiggled her fingers at the baby again, letting red and gold sparks trail from her fingertips momentarily. "I'm quite well. It seems I've been interviewing quite a bit, so we should have some new arrivals this year," she sighed lightly. "At least the Divination Professor seems much more... " sane... calm... "pleasant than we've had before."

Corey was already proud of his youngest child (not that that was very hard, really; Remy could blink and Corey would want to document it in a scrapbook of achievements). The boy could make anyone smile. Not that Minerva didn't smile - Corey was just still getting used to seeing it more often than when he was her student, a time when he maybe gave her more reason to scowl than smile. He'd been a good kid...mostly. Still, he was happy to see her smiling now, at his baby. And even indulging him in a greeting! "He's fifteen months," he answered with the same amount of pride as on his face in his voice. Growing like a champ, the boy was.
Minerva accepted his invitation, and Corey grinned happily as she sat down, admiring the magnificent swishing of her robes as she went. "That color really suits you, you know." He found himself unable to resist comment. Corey tagged himself as having an eye for fashion; he was a much bigger fan of neutral colors himself, but if anyone could rock a regal color such as burgundy, it was definitely Minerva McGonagall. She asked after the rest of his family and Corey bit the inside of his cheek to prevent the inevitable rambling that would come at such a question. Corey could talk about his family all day; that didn't mean anyone could possibly listen to the same. "All very well, thanks. Gearing up for the new term, as we do." Things shifted a bit in the Bello-King household come every September, what with Big Sister going away to school and Daddy away with her most of the time. It was always difficult for him to spend less time with his sons and husband, but he loved his job all the same. He chuckled at Remy's adorable baby giggles when Minerva produced some sparks just for him. Red and gold, of course. Got to start them early.
Corey looked up and listened as Minerva detailed her summer. Interviews didn't sound exactly like taking time off, not that he really expected the woman to anyway. "Fresh faces can be a good thing," Corey offered with a light smile. He was sociable, he loved Hogwarts' habit of new staff coming in all the time, but he could see how stressful that would be for the Head Witch in Charge. He laughed at the news of a new Divination professor, nodding his head knowingly. "Maybe a few less doomed prophecies this year, at least? I say, being doomed all the time really isn't good for the children."

Minerva was fairly positive she'd never seen a parent beam so much when confronted by... well, any of their child's actions. Corey's expression was typically beaming, but the wattage upped when he looked at his child, and Minerva could feel her expression softening at the sight. She shared a look with Remy, a slightly amused "yes, your dad is embarrassing" expression perhaps, and settled in across from the pair of Kings, nodding in response to Remy's age.
She paused in the midst of adjusting her robes and favoured Professor King with a raised eyebrow. Fortunately for him, Remy was just too cute to resist, and so she merely clucked and murmured a "Thank you," folding her hands on the table with just a twitch of amusement in her expression. Thankfully, the conversation was easily diverted to the Bello-King clan. "Of course," she agreed. "It's only your eldest who's at the school, correct?" She flicked her fingers at a passing, frill-bedecked waiter in a clear signal for tea, and then propped her hands back on the table. "Do you have trouble balancing your home and work?" she asked, curiously and kindly - for she had no experience with a large family and her career, having given up the former for the latter. Distracting her from that thought was Remy giggling at her magical display, and Minerva showed a real smile, lined face transformed with the movement.
"That is true," she agreed. "And we do have quite a few. I'm sure they will all prove real assets to the school!" That they'd better was heavily implied. At least she was relatively positive that one of them would be a vast improvement. "Yes," she agreed dryly. "Considering the past teachers, you have to wonder how we have any students left!" Her tea arrived at precisely that moment, and Minerva murmured her thanks to the waiter. "I trust you're feeling ready for the year?"

Corey was beyond used to the looks and the amusement prompted by his behavior; he liked to say it was just because he'd been so interesting his whole life (followed by a good-natured chuckle, of course). He barely noticed them anymore - especially when the chance to brag on his family instead was right in front of him. "That's right." Corey spoke with as much pride in Rosemary as he did with the baby. Simply being in school was enough to make him proud, apparently. "Third year this year."
Minerva ordered her tea in an admirably succinct way, and then it was back to talking about Corey. Corey didn't mind, of course. Some people liked their privacy and he just so happened to not be one of those people at all. He could maybe be a little too open at times, but hey, it had only ever brought him good things. "It's always a little difficult at the start of term, yes," he spoke candidly, nodding. "You get used to one way, and then having to switch it up is hard. But I always make sure to make time for them." He tickled Remy's side, smiling at him thoughtfully. "They're my work too, you know?"
If not her personal life, work was at least one thing Minerva was willing to discuss. "Of course they will, they're being vetted by the best." Corey still couldn't help complimenting her, though, or grinning at her as her special brand of humor shone through the conversation. "I suppose the rest of us have made up for it. My money's on transfiguration being the subject keeping it all together all along." He winked.
Tea arrived, Corey's previously ordered cup coming out with Minerva's. He thanked the waiter, too, and set to preparing his tea as he answered Minerva's next question. "I am! Excited as always. It just feels like it's going to be a good year. You sound like you're relatively ready as well?"
