Merlin bless Nymphadora Tonks Lupin (Remus still felt a little tizzy every time he reminded himself that was really her name now) - more than anyone else he'd ever met, she had the purest heart of gold. Maybe he was a little biased, being her adoring husband and all, but you don't have to take just this one smitten man's word for it. Ask anyone that knew her. Ask her family. Ask strangers on the street she talked to for less than five minutes. Dora was the definition of a Hufflepuff, making anyone feel loved and accepted like it was the easiest thing in the world to her, all without being smothering about it. The fact that she had an especially soft spot for people like him still had the ability to make Remus glow with warmth. His kind of people could use that kind of attention all they could get, and the fact that Dora did it without his asking - just because it was second nature to her - made him fall more in love with her every time (as if that was possible) she found another one.
Dora had an eye for werewolves, see. She knew all the telltale signs, the scars and the tired, aging faces - and she saw the more subtle things too, somehow. She was always on the look out for someone she could help. For someone he could help. Remus was finally in a place in his life where he could mostly live with his condition, have a handle on it instead of bending completely to its will every month. He remembered those days all too well - they would always be close, no matter how many years continued to separate him from them. He knew the loneliness and the pain and the utter terror; how awful it felt, more than anything else in the world, to be scared of yourself. Through his work with the Order, Remus had met a lot of bad werewolves. He could certainly understand what turned them that way, even if he didn't condone what they did. They were scared of themselves and the world was scared of them; what else was a wolf to do? In such an unfriendly situation, Remus could only hope to get to some of them before the world - or worse, their own selves - did. He was living proof that it didn't all have to be so tragic. And his wife was living proof that it wasn't the whole entire world against them.
Dora had found one at the Ministry. She wasn't completely sure, but sure enough - and the man's letter to Remus confirmed it enough for him, as well. He was waiting for this man now, seated at the bar in the Leaky Cauldron. He had no pretenses about this meeting, no prejudgments about the man. Every werewolf was different, just like every human was. Their needs all varied. If this one was working, Remus wasn't too worried about the basic needs like food and shelter (though he'd gladly help with those at anytime) - this one was ahead of the pack, so to speak. Whatever it was he needed from Remus, even if it was just to talk, Remus was there. These meetings helped him just as much as they helped the others, he reckoned.

All his life Shea has been told he was a monster. Though that exact word was never used by his parents it was very clearly implied. He had accepted long ago that he would not be able to live a life like his siblings. He was okay with that. He was okay that in the future when he's an uncle that he'll on;y be seen on holidays and birthday and other special occasions. He had accepted that he would most likely never have his own family. All of it was okay with him. He was okay with never getting married or having kids. He was absolutely fine with having friends that he occasionally only saw when they had both happen to be at a bar. he could live with never meeting another werewolf ever. Shea was perfectly fine being alone for the rest of his life. But that was until he was confronted with the wife of a werewolf.
In Shea's head, this Tonks woman was crazy. Why the heck would someone willingly go up to a stranger and start accusing them of being a werewolf. From all that Shea knew, werewolves were monsters. It boggled his mind that she approached him. Especially, since he had been one to hide his condition so well. No one outside his family knew and he was perfectly fine with that. The only people he felt he could ever trust was his family. Then again, he didn't really have many friends and the ones he did have were the normal ones that you pick up from working with someone every day. He didn't get how someone could be so comfortable when going up towards him knowing very well what he could have possibly done during a full moon.
Though he denied it to her face he listened to every word she said. He caught on to her saying my husband when referring to the werewolf she wanted him to meet. He tried not to act shocked when she mentioned kids very briefly. Everything Shea had ever known about his life had suddenly been torn down into pieces. He had felt like his parents were lying to him and he wanted to know more. But he refused to admit to being a werewolf. Not when someone could have heard them.
He had sent a letter to the man she spoke of and now he was to meet him in The Leaky Cauldron. Frustrated, confused, angered, and all together lost, Shea had waited outside for several minutes before actually entering the building. He knew nothing about Remus Lupin. He started to look him up at his work and got as far as seeing that he worked at Hogwarts and finding a picture of him before stopping himself from going any further. He thought it was fair if they knew about the same amount of information on the other. Shea's eyes looked over the few people at the bar and found the fellow wolf. With a deep breath, he moved towards the seat next to him, "Mr. Lupin?"

While he waited, Remus indulged. He didn't often drink, after overindulging in his earlier years he no longer really had a taste for it (or its bitter memories), but today it felt appropriate to have a glass or two. He thought it may appear a little unsettling for his appointment to walk into a pub and see what was supposed to be a werewolf drinking out of a teacup, so brandy in a tumbler it was. He couldn't shatter all the stereotypes (not all of them, but there were plenty of alcoholics in the packs Remus briefly ran with) all at once; it might overwhelm the poor lad. And besides, the brandy was rather good for the nerves. No matter what comfortable spot Remus found himself in life now, it was always a little unnerving for him, meeting new people. Remus was hesitant to trust anyone right off the bat - some things just couldn't change.
A form slid into his peripheral, and Remus put on his gentlest smile at the sound of his surname. He turned to look at this newcomer - young, very young. That was always a pity, to have the supposed best years of one's life marred by such an event. "You must be Shea," he answered with little question in his voice. He was pretty certain this must be the boy. Standing up and taking his drink in one hand, Remus put the other gently on Shea's shoulder. "You can call me Remus, please. If you want to get yourself a drink," he slipped a Galleon into his palm from his pocket and tapped it against the bar surface before sliding it toward the bartender's side, "I've got a place that's a bit more private for us to talk, if that's alright." Remus tilted his head toward a far corner of the pub; under a set of stairs to the second floor, a lone cloak sat draped across one chair of a set of two, and a small table in between them. He smiled patiently at the young man before him, waiting for him to make whatever next move he wished. If he was more comfortable at the bar, so be it, but the tone of his letter prompted Remus to plan a little privacy in advance.

The stereotypes of being a werewolf were things that weren't completely part of Shea. He worked hard to make sure he never showed any of them show. At least he thought he was doing a job. Which made him nervous. He nodded hi head when his name was said. He was never one for many words and he felt it was best to leave the little words he did have until they were in the more private spot.
"Butterbeer," He said to the bartender. He wasn't one for drinking. (He really wasn't one for much of anything as you can tell.) In fact, the last time he had a drink it was New Year's Eve where his mother had given him multiple glares as he slowly slipped away at the glass of butterbeer for over an hour. She always acted like one drink was all that it took for him to lose control over everything his parents had built for him. He traded his money for the drink. Shea took a sip and followed Remus to the spot. "thank you for meeting with me" he spoke up again. He was nervous about the whole thing but the whole never meeting a werewolf thing made him stay. He wanted to know more about who he was than what his parents have told him.

The young man affirmed he was in fact the Shea that Remus was looking for, and then ordered a butterbeer. Remus made a mental note that, depending on how this meeting went and how long Shea wanted to talk, he'd switch over to the golden beverage of wizards next round, too. Shea retrieved his mug and they were off, Remus leading the young man to the corner table. Remus took the seat with his cloak draped across the back of it, and waited for Shea to get settled in as well.
"Of course," he nodded, smiling lightly at the younger man across the table. It was dimmer over here under the stairs (the Leaky Cauldron wasn't known for its superior lighting in the first place) but Remus thought he could see a touch of nerves in Shea all the same. He was rather good at recognizing such an expression from people who knew what he was, though he didn't think Shea was afraid of him, exactly. Probably just wondering what on Earth he was actually doing this for. Remus could admit as well that it was rather strange on the surface, setting up meetings with strangers - but there were lots of things strange about being a werewolf, very least of all the hair growing out of the ears even past the full moon. Life was strange and difficult and they needed to stick together with people that would understand - or at least, Remus felt that way. Lots of werewolves were solitary, but he didn't think that was hardly any better than going rogue. The loneliness could grow deadly, and human or wolf, they were pack animals.
"And thank you for indulging my wife, and me. Sorry if she freaked you out." Remus' smile twitched. Being approached by anyone who had a suspicion of your condition was scary - he rather imagined having the bright loudness that was Dora do it to be downright frightening. "Whatever we talk about is up to you, Shea. We just want you to know you're not alone. We can get to know one another, or remain strangers. You can ask me questions, or rant, or I could give you my monologue on the state of the world for people like us. I would warn you against that last one." He chuckled, and lifted his glass for a sip, watching Shea over the rim to see if anything peaked his interest or curiosity.

Shea sat in the other chair and placed his glass on the table. He had made a list of things he wanted to ask. A list of things he wanted to say but it seemed to disappear from his memory the second they were actually ready to talk. He listened to the man and wanted to ask him to just tell him everything he could but he imagine that it would get rather boring quick. He had also been trying to push himself to talk more so he thought now was no better time to start. "I'd like to apologize in advance if any of my words possibly offend you. I was raised a certain way and truthfully, you are the first one of us I have met. That's why I decided to contact you." he explained. This was probably the most words that came out of him since they had him train someone at work, "I just wanted to talk and see how much of what my parents have raised me to believe is true. I got the condition when I was eight." such a young age to be turned but almost twelve years and never speaking to another werewolf was something he thought was probably odd. Werewolves, much like wolves, are pack animals. They prefer to be with their own kind. Shea probably showed his sense of pack with his siblings but he had a feeling it wasn't the same.

Remus nodded in understanding of the young man's warning, appreciative of it even if Shea had no need to apologize for anything at all. "I promise you it's very unlikely there's anything you could say to me that I haven't heard before," Remus said with a quiet chuckle. He truly believed he'd heard it all by now. The general populace was mean enough, depending on the decade - but Remus' long, constant dance with Death Eaters who very well knew his condition brought up some especially creative, vicious opinions. Remus was curious as to why Shea had no other contact with any werewolves, but decided to fully hear the boy out first, try to suss out what it was he came for.
He just wanted to talk; get some answers, some perspective. Remus could understand that completely - he was quickly gathering that Shea's parents may not have been the greatest of parents to their werewolf son, but he made no assumptions just yet - and nodded again. "And I was four, so I know what it's like growing up with it. It's very scary as a child, isn't it? But I found, once I was on my own, that it could get even scarier." Perhaps that was what Shea was going through now. For a brief, shining moment in his young adult life, Remus hadn't been alone. He'd left Hogwarts, his sanctuary, with the very best friends a boy could ask for. Then a door slammed shut on that light, and he was alone for a long while, and it nearly broke him. Did break him for a while, actually. That was something he never wanted to live through again and would do anything possible to prevent someone like Shea from having to live it, either. "If you don't mind me asking, what's been your experience, growing up like this? Were you able to go school?" Remus knew he was lucky, having Dumbledore on his side from day one. He had no idea if or how many other werewolves the man helped through Hogwarts over the decades, but he knew in Dumbledore's last years on this Earth, he was rather occupied with something bigger than saving every scared, scarred-up little boy. With how young Shea looked, he very well may have missed his opportunity to attend the school at all.

And I was four, it was a jaw dropping wide-eyed shock that came to his face at the statement. He, however, did get some sort of the feeling on his face. He had felt that he was pretty young when he was turned but he never thought of anyone younger haveing to deal with that. But there was a feeling that he got that coming here was the right thing because if anyone could possibly understand it would be Remus. "I never really left my house after it happened. My parents were terrified what would happen to me," he explained, "My mum homeschooled me, which I thought was normal because my siblings joined in for lessons occasionally. They ended up going to Hogwarts when they were eleven," It was something that always bothered him about everything but he figured that it was the best move. The best thing to do to protect him and to protect the other children at the school. There was a lot of things about his childhood that was things that bothered him. Sometimes he felt as if he hated his parents but he withdrew the thoughts remembering that if it weren't for them he wouldn't be where he was today. "It probably sounds worse than it is. Coping up a kid does its damage. But my parents could have left me on the streets. So it wasn't all too bad." He felt himself talking more then he was used to and decided to take a sip of his drink. He had his questions and he's liked to ask them. "Do you mind if I ask what it was like for you?"

Shea seemed a little shocked that Remus had turned at an age even younger than him; Remus was so used to this reaction that he barely noticed it all now. What he honestly found more shocking was that he'd made it nearly forty years with this condition and there were still people out there that thought it couldn't be done - a normal life lived with lycanthropy. He expected other werewolves to be a little disbelieving - each transformation felt like death itself, even after forty years - but Remus was constantly disappointed in his fellow man, unaffected, when they shouted their misguided hate even after looking at him and all he'd done with his forty years. To some people his accomplishments were worth nothing next to his tainted blood.
Shea obliged Remus his story, and Remus listened closely. It wasn't too different a story from what he'd heard many times before. Some families were ashamed of their furry little secret; some were just scared, for their loved one and maybe a little bit of him. It was understandable, if tragic and misinformed. Shea at least sounded like he was taken care of if hidden away. He got an education at the very least, the best possible thing to lift him up out of the life so many werewolves fell into, in Remus' opinion. "That must have been tough, watching them go away," Remus commiserated. "Are you the oldest?" There was a possible bright spot. Remus found younger people to be more understanding by principle. He had no siblings himself, but plenty of young people he considered as close as family that looked up to him. That kind of love was invaluable to someone with a condition that so often broke them down.
"It is a terribly hard choice, especially for a parent," Remus nodded. He thought his own parents did the best they could, given their circumstances. "I hope you are able to forgive them, or at least understand. You want to protect your kid and you think the only way to do that is to keep the world from getting to them - but you're right, it is damaging. The world has lessons to teach us." Shea had a question for him, and Remus thought for a moment. "My experience was a bit different. I was able to go to Hogwarts, thanks to the good graces of Albus Dumbledore. I had friends there, and that has made all the difference in the world, to this very day." He considered the young man in front of him for another moment. "It's important to let people in, Shea. For a very long time I thought I was dirty and damaged. But I guarantee there are people in this world that want to love you if you let them. My life has been an utter catastrophe at times, it is very difficult living like this and I don't think I can tell you it ever gets easy, but it does get easier if you let people share the burden." Remus paused to sip at his drink, and a smile slid across his face. "Sorry to preach."
