DESCRIPTION: Bartholomew (who goes by many nicknames, including Bat, Mew and everything in between) is a literal ray of sunshine that has come to earth in the form of a 16 year old boy. He's incredibly nearsighted and needs glasses to see just about everything, but he also loses his glasses all the time, so it's really a toss-up whether he'll have thick-rimmed glasses perched on his nose or whether he'll be staring around in confusion, eyes wide. He also has very curly hair which he sometimes lets get a bit too long and flop around his face, though generally it's kept away from his face as he finds it rather distracting. Of average height and a slim build, he dresses casually and is known to have forsaken the Hogwarts sweater and robes for reasons such as 'they were too itchy' or 'they had cat hair on them'. Generally smiling, he has deep brown eyes which are good for staring soulfully at you until you give him the last cupcake.
PERSONALITY
POSITIVE TRAITS: Very organized, thoughtful, dedicated to his work, tenacious, clever, outwardly calm, the person people come to to discuss their problems, talented at the less practical arts such as divination and arithmancy and Ancient Runes, works hard to get things he isn't good at, good in a crisis, sweet, patient, fair.
NEGATIVE TRAITS: A bit eccentric, sometimes very clueless/self-centered/unaware of his surroundings, sometimes does not know what this Personal Space you are speaking of is, quiet, can be distant, occasionally gets frustrated if he doesn't get enough of the right kind of attention or he feels like people are taking advantage of his kindnesses.
LIKES: His parents, his sisters, making to-do lists, whiteboards, notebooks, math, Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, being outside, swimming, being close to people physically, listening to music, dancing to music (not necessarily well...), spicy food, connecting with people, attention (but not too much, not the wrong kind, etc), comfortable clothes, having quiet time to himself.
DISLIKES: Of all the things to call him, when people call him Bart. He hates it. Losing his glasses, people deliberately taking his glasses, when people ask him how many fingers they're holding up or exclaim over his prescription (no, he wasn't aware of how bad his eyes were thanks for letting him know!), when people are mad at each other, people who put down his family or friends, tight clothes, people who invade his personal space without asking.
HOBBIES: Making lists of things, brightening up a room, staking out a quiet space and immersing himself in a book or another project, plotting how to swim in the black lake without getting in trouble, hugging people, learning about Muggle calculus, creating buildings out of decks of cards, being able to sleep in any situation, being a cutie.
GENERAL PERSONALITY: *throws rose petals in the air*
Bartholomew is actually quite introverted and calm, though many people wouldn't guess this the first time that they met him because he's a fairly happy and certainly very touchy person, showing affection through touch rather than words. However, he won't do this with people he isn't comfortable with, and though he's very able to brighten up a room while he's in it, he will also retreat to nooks and crannies in the castle or his family home to recharge himself with some solitude and probably a math textbook. He's clever and thoughtful and hard-working; most subjects don't come easily to him but he enjoys school nonetheless and does his best to keep up with the material. He likes to learn, and he likes to listen. Because of this, people often tell him about their lives and problems, which he doesn't mind until he feels like he's being beleaguered or doesn't have a moment to himself. He may be a bit of a hypocrite, as he wants attention but only the right kind of attention and might get a bit sulky and distracted if he gets too much or not enough of certain interactions. Despite his eccentricities, he's a good friend to have around (as long as you don't mind hugs because boundaries, Bartholomew), good in a pinch and generally an all-around good kind of guy.

Character History:
Ren and Sidney were a Muggle office romance that went beautifully right. Sidney always swore that the day Ren showed up bringing donuts was the day he knew he was the one, but Ren says that it was when Sidney accidentally stopped the elevator between two floors with his rear (well, Sidney claims it was an accident, but Ren insists it was done on purpose to get a snog) that told him Sidney was a keeper. Regardless, they were together for 5 years when they decided that they wanted to have kids, and went about the painstaking process of choosing a surrogate mother.
They met Maria Silva, a Brazilian witch who had moved to England two years before on a Charms mastery. It was actually an accident - Maria wasn't supposed to be a surrogate mom at all. She was studying in the cafe that Ren and Sidney were supposed to meet their surrogate in, and they mistook her for the woman. After the misunderstanding was straightened out, Maria was charmed by the couple and they struck up a friendship.
Fast-forward six months later, and Ren and Sidney had not found a surrogate. Maria, who at this point had finished her Mastery, offered to be the mother and promptly moved in with the two of them as they started to work out how this whole surrogate thing was going to work. Surprisingly, it worked rather well. Maria was eight months pregnant when Ren and Sidney, after much discussion and a heck of a lot of confusion, told her they'd like her to be a permanent part of their family. And so it was that Bartholomew was born into a strange but wonderful family of two dads and a mom.
Two years after Bat was born, Maria got pregnant again. The family was delighted to hear that it would be twins- after all, then they'd have an even ratio of children to parents, which seemed to them to be an excellent idea. Bat doesn't remember his life without the twins, except for a few brief memories of his mum crooning in Spanish, but after they arrived the world certainly got noisier and busier and bright.
From their youngest days, the twins were inseparable. Bartholomew occasionally felt a bit left out, but his sisters always did their best to include him and look after him, even though he was the eldest. In return, Bat taught them about the world, like which parent was most susceptible to soulful expressions and which one had a sweet tooth. In between the loudness and sweetness of his family, he tucked himself into corners and read, or hummed made-up tunes, or fell asleep in strange places (like the roof... or under the bed...) to recharge and to build his own identity. There was no crisis in his childhood, no dramatic events, just three parents and three children bumping along through life and getting along rather well.
Even when Bartholomew received his Hogwarts letter and Maria had to explain to her entire family that she was a witch and could, therefore, do magic, the Caldeira-Silva-Greene family took the news with great interest and composure. Ren and Sidney said smugly that they knew Maria was magical (for which she likely smacked them over the head and muttered affectionately in Spanish), and June and Ivy simply couldn't wait to find out if they were magical too. So, with the support of his family, Bartholomew headed off to Hogwarts, looking forward to it very much. He was a bit homesick for the first two years, but when his sisters joined him there he settld in very nicely and started to carve out his own niche, making friends and learning. He doesn't know what he wants to do with his life - he hasn't even dated anyone yet - but he's fairly content where he is right now. Bartholomew knows that good things come to those who wait!
