Meg was off tonight, so Dani had the bar to herself. Not that she minded. It gave her something to keep her occupied, especially with all the werewolf mess currently going on. The legislation the Ministry was rolling out made her worried. What would she do if they really tried to ban werewolves from Hogsmeade? Pray no one found out about her? Or quit and try to find another job? Heading back to America was always a possibility. The country was certainly big enough for her to stay hidden. But now that she was getting close to Meg, she just couldn’t quite bring herself to run away. Not again.
The Three Broomsticks was doing pretty light business tonight. Maybe all the creature attacks were finally starting to get to people. Only a handful of customers were scattered around the establishment. Dani had taken advantage of the break to clean some mugs while her mind wandered, but the opening of the door told her someone else had entered. She set down the towel she was using and turned around just as a young man dropped into one of the bar stools. Dani gave him her best quiet smile. She would be worried about herself and still be friendly. Actually, she was getting pretty good at doing both at once. “What can I get you?”

The night life had settled down. This was not the country he remembered coming from before the European tour. It seemed that not only Belgium was hit with attacks. The world was never at peace but instead of trying to do something he turned a blind eye. What was he going to do anyways? The best he could do was what he already did: give people a good time through his music and make life worth living. He always felt strange drinking in the pub he worked at, besides he needed to see different faces once in awhile. He woke up when the sun already had settled again after a smoke he disapparated to Hogsmaede in the hopes of some drinks and good company. Alas the pub seemed as quiet as the one he worked at. No cute faces so far, what a shame.
A bit disappointed he settled down at the bar. At least he could still get a drink and 1 out of 2 wishes could be fulfilled. Looking up at a female voice however made his lips curl up. Oh perhaps there still was hope for the other wish. Bran studied the woman’s face. Pretty but not into your face, it was more of a natural beauty. Bran was sure she wasn’t wearing any make-up. He didn’t want to judge her at first glance but for now she struck him as an introvert. That was fine, sure it might things harder but she still could be fun. The Rockstar gave her a charming smile and leaned his chin on his hand palm. “It doesn’t really matter as long as it cums wi' a slice av yer.,” he said playfully his tone was light and friendly rather than a deep flirt. “But if Oi may be picky Oi’ll take de whiskey as a draink..”

The young man who sat down at the bar had a smile that could charm a person’s socks off. And he clearly knew it, turning it up to full wattage. Personally, Dani wasn’t much for flirting. She was too quiet and didn’t care for the spotlight. But while she wasn’t the sort of girl who could be talked into going home with the patrons, she was definitely a good listener. Although this particular gentleman was clearly not here to spill the story of his latest tragedy. Dani tilted her head, a hint of a smile tugging at her mouth even as she raised an eyebrow. Short of turning painfully awkward if it went on too long, she was pretty much immune to flirting. Not that it ever stopped them from trying. “I don’t know about a slice. But you’re welcome to my company if you want it.” Most of the people who came into the pub around this time of night weren’t nearly as close to Dani’s age. It might be nice talking to someone else who wasn’t sporting any grey hair yet.
Whiskey it was. Dani pulled a bottle from behind the counter and poured him a drink. She set the glass down in front of him before crossing her arms and leaning forward against the counter so her elbows were holding her up. “Your accent. Irish? I lived in America for several years. Still getting used to being back in England.” Not that it showed. Her British accent had come back flawlessly within a few short weeks. Still, it was something to talk about. Most of the time, Dani played things pretty close to the vest where her personal life was concerned. But she had learned that sharing a tidbit about herself tended to make other people a little more willing to open up. Not that she would ever share anything truly important. She had far too much to lose. But listening to other people’s stories helped take her mind off her own problems for a while.

The woman’s response was different from all he expected. For a second he was confused and blinked before he fell into a laughter. Bran brushed away a tear. It seemed that the bartender had no idea what he meant with that pun. It was adorable. “Ah sweetie, that’s more than Oi asked av yer. But since yer are so kind ter offer Oi gladly accept,” he said with a charming smile and a playful wink. At this point he didn’t care what the night would bring. He had a drink in his hand and a cute girl to keep him company. What more could a man wish for?
Bran grinned when she questioned his accent. “De Oirish part av me Oirish divil nickname is not made up.,” he said proudly. He was proud of his heritage even if most people would look down upon the family and neighborhood where he grew up. “America huh? Yer don't seem ter 'av a yankee accent.” Bran’s lips curled up into a thoughtful smile. He’d done the European tour with his band but the long awaited American tour would never happen. Not with 3/4th of the band buried underground. The man sipped his whiskey. “'Oy is america? Are al' birds dare as cute as yer?” Bran’s words rolled smoothly off his tongue. He was both a singer and an actor after all. During his life shows he played a character even if that character now and them seemed to return in his daily life. People preferred the Irish Devil over Bran that was no secret. He was fine with being both.

Dani might be good at listening, but she had never exactly been the most up to date on slang. As evidenced by the young man’s laugh. Clearly Dani had said something funny. He seemed to find it endearing though, and she would take being cute over being blatantly harassed any day. And his wink managed to draw a small smile from Dani. He was definitely charming, she would give him that.
The Irish Devil. That name caught in her mind like cloth snagged on a nail. Where had she heard that? The Prophet. That was it. Dani had been following the paper religiously the last several weeks just in case they leaked anything of what the Ministry had in mind. The propaganda machine hadn’t been much help on that front. But she did remember seeing a few stories about the Irish Devil. “You’re that singer. The one that just came back from tour.” She had enough tact not to mention the vampire attack. Dani knew from personal experience that events like that were hard to talk about. She could only imagine how much harder it must have been for him actually seeing his friends killed in front of him. Maybe talking about music would be easier. “You have any songs I should know?” The band name hadn’t been one she was familiar with. Not that she was exactly up to date on current music either.
She shrugged when he mentioned her own lack of an accent. “I lived in England when I was a kid, so I guess the accent came back when I did.” Although she wasn’t particularly keen on discussing why exactly that move had happened. And then they were back to the flattery. Dani had heard it all before, of course, but something about the words coming from this guy was keeping a small smile on her face. She couldn’t really put her finger on the reason. Something about his charm just made it seem a little more like he was just being friendly and a little less like he was actively trying to pick her up. She shook her head in amusement. “They look about the same as British birds. And America is… well, it’s a lot bigger. Things tend to be further apart, so you have to drive more. People are friendlier. Sometimes I almost feels nosy. They’re more optimistic too. And they have more national pride. It seems like everybody has an American flag. But they’re stiffer about drink. People don’t drink casually as much.” That was about all she could think of right off the bat. She tilted her head curiously as she surveyed the man on the other side of the bar. “What’s Ireland like?” Flirting and idle small talk might not really be Dani's forte, but she could hold a solid conversation all day long.

Bran sipped the whiskey and played with the glass. He tossed it from one hand to the other without spilling. He held it in both hands when the bartender started speaking again. “Dat singer? Baby Oi’m de singer ,” he corrected her with a grin. “Mind dis day, cos wan day whaen oi stan' on top av de warrld yer can say: That guy came ter me boozer wan day an' den people 'ill be super jealous av yer. … Or somethin' loike dat, at laest dat wus me dream; ter becum a rock legend ,” he started off cool but he ended with a goofy grin. The rockstar wasn’t entirely sure if his dream was still possible. The real question was: did he still want to continue after losing his mates? He hadn’t felt like writing any new songs lately. Instead he spend his days drinking and doing nothing. Damn he was letting his fans down. He thought of songs she might know. “Well ‘ Starving for Friends’ has been pretty popular d last months. But if yer want a classic yer might 'av 'eard av ‘ lifeline’ www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-4kKsv-3mk. It wus on our very first album.” (OOC: Yes I am shamelessly claiming these songs for Bran as they aren’t released in 2003 yet ) He took another sip and shrugged. “But oi understan' not everyone likes me music. Sum claim it’s ‘too 'eavy’ in whaich case oi alwus assume they 'aven’t ever 'eard a death metal song. Me music is loike church choir compared ter dat ,” he grinned. So the accent returned, huh? “Makes sense,” he nodded. She had him blinking again when she stated that Americans looked about the same. A part of him wondered if she caught the pun this time or not. Or if she was talking about the birds that flew in the sky. It didn’t really matter and Bran wasn’t going to add on it. He listened as she told him about America, quite interesting. “Really naw drinkers? But waaat aboyt de magic av las vegas?” Bran tilted his head or was it just a story he’d heard. When he was asked about Ireland he had to think for a moment. He hadn’t really seen much of the country besides the getto he grew up in. “I’ve never seen a leprechaun but dat might be cos oi gru up in a muggle town. it’s a dumpster but it’s me 'um yer nu? oi believe it’s juicy similar ter Englan'. ”

The guy might be a little cocky, and he was very clearly flirting, but there was also something terribly disarming about his charismatic way. And the trick with the glass was cool. Dani found herself chuckling as he informed her that someday this place would be famous for his having been in it. Fame didn’t seem to have spoiled him thus far. On the contrary, his goofy grin was pretty endearing. Dani might be nice to everyone, but there were precious few she truly warmed to. And somehow this Irishman was drawing that relaxed side out of her. “Well, when you’re famous, maybe you can remember this little bartender and give her some tickets.” She shot back a teasing grin of her own before adding, “So you have a real name, Mr. Rock Legend? I’m Dani. Short for Danielle.”
Her brow furrowed as he listed songs. Dani didn’t do a lot of listening to the radio anymore. She was a little busy worrying about other things. And the fame he apparently possessed in England didn’t seem to have jumped the pond before she left. But the titles did sound vaguely familiar. “I think I’ve heard them a couple times on the radio. I’ll have to go look them up now.” There he went making her grin again. What was it about this guy that made him so easy to warm up to? “I don’t know much about music – and definitely not about death metal – but if you like playing, who cares if anyone else likes it?” Him, probably. And to be fair, it certainly did seem like he was pretty popular given how much the papers kept talking about the band. But Dani had always been of the opinion that an artist should create for themselves first. When they started creating for others instead, that was when it lost its special quality.
A strand of hair had slid into Dani’s face, and she reached up to push it behind her ear. She actually had caught the bird pun for once. But sometimes it was more fun to pretend she hadn’t. The ones who were only in it to get something out of her tended to give up if she didn’t play their game. This guy, on the other hand, just rolled with it. And that just made Dani like him even more. “Americans do drink. Just not as much. There’s more people who see it as a bad thing. Although I’m sure Las Vegas sees its fair share of drinking. I wouldn’t know. I’ve never been.” Places like that had never interested Dani. She was far happier being out in the middle of the woods looking for plants with her family. Actually, pretty much anywhere with her family was just fine. She had always been a bit of a homebody. Until now. Thee Irishman seemed to understand the sentiment, expressing his own feelings for his “dumpster” of a hometown. Dani nodded in agreement. Her smile took on a sadder tone and her voice was more serious as she said, “Makes sense. There’s not really any place out there quite like home.”

After toying with the glass he emptied it and put it down and shoved it towards the bartender. “It was lovely, I’d like to have seconds,” he said with a wink and a smile. He chuckled when she asked for VIP tickets, may he get really big. Of course she wasn’t the first one to ask but it never failed to entertain him. He leaned his chin on his palm and tilted his head a sultry look flashing in his blue eyes. “Hmm… Does the cute little bartender wish to make it to the list of special VIPs? It can all be arranged of course but one little talk won’t get you there. We’ll have to meet more often, unless that was your hidden motive,” he said with a playful smirk. Really nothing happened between the two of them, this was just Bran being who he was. He liked her teasing grin however, it proved she had some spice. Innocent wallflowers would corrupt under his presence. When he was asked for his real name he blinked and waved with his hand. “Real name? Nobody wants to know Bran, he is a boring simple human being,” he chuckled. But that was it, his name was there. He was both Bran and the Irish Devil. No it was not a split personality just a different identity. People usually liked the devil more, he was a fun, flirty crazy, party maker. Bran was lazy and silly. His smile returned however. “Dani is a nice name, fits a cutie like you.”
The Rockstar grinned when Dani told him she’d have to look up his songs. “If you’re lucky I’ll start singing them after a few more drinks.” Bran was always more fun when he was drunk, not that he was often sober. But there was a difference between drunk and tipsy. He really let himself go after the death of is bandmates. Even if she wasn’t an easy catch, Bran enjoyed the small talk. Dani was kind and very down to earth it seemed so far. More of a girl next door type rather than a hookup for the night. Even if his neighbour’s daughter had been a bit of a slut. But hey so was Bran, it was the neighbourhood. It had only been a long time since he’d been in the apartment he grew up in. A part of him agreed with her. One should always make music because they enjoyed it. “I always like to take it one step beyond. I don’t make music for myself alone. I do it because I want to make people smile and have a good time. In this shitty world we can only try to make as many good memories as possible, right?”
Bran watched her tuck her hair behind her ear. She told him about America. It didn’t sound like a country he’d like to live. He probably wouldn’t make many friends in a country where people didn’t drink much. After all he had become a low grade alcoholic. Even if he didn’t rate himself as such. The Rocker shrugged. “I’ll teach them how to live. One day I’ll tour there,” he said with a grin. He did hope to go to Las Vegas one day. A lot of people would see him perform if he got to enter the stage there. His usually happy and goofy grin turned into a grimace when he thought of home. The last memories he had of the place he had called home were dark. “Not really, huh?” His eyes trailed off but then he repacked himself slipping his usual grin on his face. “The whole world is my home. Can’t get too attached to one place if you travel that much.”
(OOC: I probably won't write his accent anymore because it takes a lot of extra time)

Rockstar over there emptied his glass and pushed it to Dani, who refilled it with a smile. “Well, since you asked so nicely,” she teased. What was it about this guy? She was being more social right now than she’d been in a long time. Maybe it was just his laid back manner. Whatever it was, Dani liked it. It made her feel normal. She was actually wondering if maybe he would drop by more or if this was a one-off visit when he casually suggested they would have to meet up more often. “You caught me,” she said, holding up her hands as if in surrender. The smile playing across her lips was only growing wider. In all honesty though, she wouldn’t mind spending some more time with this guy. She dropped her arms and leaned forward slightly on the bar as he said his name. “Bran, huh? It’s a good name. In Welsh mythology, it was actually the name of a British king. Bran the Blessed. After he was killed, his head kept talking, so his warriors cut it off and took him home to bury him. At least, that’s the short version.” Dani shrugged, a little embarrassed at spouting off facts. Especially given it was a slightly more morbid tale. But her father was a write who knew all sorts of odd facts about literature, and Dani had picked some of them up along the way. “Besides,” she said, trying to cover for her own awkwardness. “Maybe I’d like to know Bran.” She had a feeling a rockstar didn’t get to be their real self very often. It had to get exhausting. Sort of like trying to hide that she was a werewolf.
She chuckled when Bran said he might start singing. “Well, then I guess I’ll just have to stick around until you do.” She really had no idea if she would even like his music, but she was growing to like the singer himself. At the very least, it might pass the time a bit. Listening to him talk about why he made music only further solidified Dani’s liking of him. There was a good heart hiding under that bad boy persona. She wondered if he knew that. “That’s a pretty noble reason. People can always use good memories. Especially with all the mess going on right now.” She tried to keep the tone light, but she couldn’t help growing more serious as she remembered how the Ministry was reacting against werewolves. She had to figure out what she was going to do about the registration. Which was more dangerous? To give them her name or to lay low and risk being found out?
Bran managed to distract her from that train of thought fairly quickly, talking about his dream of touring America. “Well, I’m sure you’ll be a hit.” He definitely had the personality for it. He seemed like the sort of artist her brother would have listened to. Not that she could know for sure without hearing his songs. But just the way he presented himself was hard not to like. He mentioned traveling, and Dani shrugged. “Traveling is fun. But I like having a place to come home to afterwards.” That had always been how things worked with her family. They traipsed around the continent for her mother’s work, and then they went back home. Not that Dani did much traveling now. Or that she particularly thought of where she currently was as home. But she could make it work for now. She didn’t really have a choice.

Bran smirked when his glass was refilled. “Aww you’re a sweetheart,” he said as he blew her a little playful kiss. He sipped the drink. “It must taste so good because you poured it for me.” Leave it up to Bran to flatter someone over something as simple as this. The Irishman grinned when Dani held up her hands in surrender. He liked it when people played along. He rested his chin on his hand palm and leaned in. “Hmm, you can just be honest with me and tell me what you wish for. I like making people’s dreams come true,” he said with a teasing wink. His hand slipped into his pocket and he pulled it out once he found a muggle pen and his package of cigarettes. No paper but it would do. He checked the package and saw there was one cigarette left. Damn he went through them faster than planned. The last cigarette was put in his mouth and he used the package to scramble down his address. “Owl me or drop by when you feel like. I’m home most of the time,” he said as he handed the package over to the bartender. Perhaps not the most charming way to invite someone but hey it was practical. Bran took a lighter from his pocket but didn’t light his cigarette yet. “Is one allowed to smoke in here or do I have to go outside?” More and more restaurants had an anti smoking movement these days but not all so he’d ask to find out. Dani started a story of some king named Bran. He couldn’t help but chuckle as she spoke. He didn’t strike her as one at first but she seemed quite the storyteller. “Woah that’s creepy,” he said between his chuckles. “But I hope people will still hear me after my death too. Through my music.” What worth is a life that won’t be remembered? He had no more family so he had to be remembered in some way. Blue eyes blinked up when Dani said she might light to know him as him and not the Rockstar image the world loved him for. “Huh? Really?” Her words had reached him. He scratched his cheek which had changed colour even if he would deny it. “Geez don’t go say things like that. You might regret it,” he said with a chuckle as he shook his head. Only his dad had loved Bran as the simple lazy chatter whom he really was. Most people didn’t even got to meet Bran as the Devil was starting to take over his personality. “Yeah you should. Maybe you can even join me when you’re done. I’ll treat you on a drink,” he suggested as he tried to keep his cool attitude up. But in fact he was dying for some company. There was a difference between talking to a bartender and talking to a cute lady who sat next to you, close to you with no bar separating her from you. “Thehe, I do the best I can,” he grinned sheepishly but couldn’t help but notice the seriousness her tone was taking. Was she affected by the mess of this world? Wasn’t everyone? More reason to keep his upbeat persona going and not sulk into depressing survivor's guilt. Maybe he shouldn’t try to suppress his feelings they might become too much for him to handle one day. But for now he didn’t listen to his conscience. “If you want, we could make some good memories too,” he played with an eyebrow wiggle but kept it innocent and charming. It was more to cheer her up and make her laugh at his ridiculous eyebrow wiggle than to actually hook her up. Not that he would complain of course. Good memories could mean anything. “Thanks.” It was nice to know some people had faith in him even if they didn’t know his music. Bran partly assumed she just said it to make him feel better. But even if that was the case, it seemed to help. He needed motivation to keep up with his career. The death of his band mates almost caused him to stop trying. His eyes trailed down to his glass when Dani spoke of returning home. “Home is where your loved ones are,” he mumbled in a monotone voice. Bran no longer had a place he could call home. Maybe he’d have one again someday. (OOC: I have to make the board of his apartment, so we can start a new thread and progress this )

Now he was blowing her kisses. Dani shook her head despite her small smile. The idea of the drink tasting any sweeter because she had poured it was ridiculous, but she played along anyway. “Trade secret.” His talk of wishes dampened her spirits ever so slightly, although she doubted he would notice. She knew it was just part of the game. But the things Dani wished for just weren’t possible right now. Her family. A normal life. It was all out of reach. The best she could do now was try to forget about it for a while. And the offer of the singer’s address could certainly help with that. “Thanks. I might take you up on that.” She slid the address into her pocket before pulling a bottle of butterbeer out from behind the counter and cracked it open. Might as well have a drink too. Business was certainly slow enough at the moment. Dani wasn’t really much for alcohol. She preferred the sweeter drinks. She took a sip from the bottle as the singer asked about smoking. “You can if you want,” she said with a shrug. He wouldn’t be the first to smoke in here. Dani was actually getting rather used to the smell.
She was a little worried the story would make her seem odd, but Bran actually seemed to like it. And then he blushed. Dani Carson had made a famous singer blush. That made her smile even as he tried to shrug off the comment. “Only one way to find out.” She could understand where he was coming from with not wanting people to know who he really was. Dani was in the same boat. But just because she didn’t want to risk people knowing her didn’t mean she couldn’t get to know them a little. Especially when they seemed so nice.
Normally, the offer of a drink would have out Dani off a bit. Getting close was dangerous. But things were starting to look not so good for werewolves, and it was wearing on her. She could use a distraction. “I’d like that,” she said honestly. Then came the wiggling eyebrows, and Dani actually laughed. This guy just might be the death of her. But she couldn’t say that she would mind. Not right now. Besides, his flirting seemed innocent enough. That was more than Dani could say for most of the people who tried to hit on her.
The talk of home was getting far too serious. Dani’s gaze slid down to the bottle in her hand as her thumb traced the glass. “Yeah,” she agreed quietly. “It is.” And right now that wasn’t here. Her family was a continent away with no clue where she was or if she was alright. They must be worried sick. But Dani didn’t dare reach out to them. It would only put them in danger. She cleared her throat and looked back up, forcing a small smile. Bran’s glass had been emptied, providing a nice way to redirect their conversation. “You want another?” Her could probably have another couple of that particular brand before it really started to hit him. At which point Dani was fully prepared to cut him off if necessary. Business be damned. Couldn’t have the patrons getting themselves splinched in half while trying to apparate home.
(OOC - We can drop this one in favor of the new one if you want. I just had muse for a reply.)
