It wasn't every day that you ran into someone who liked Quidditch but didn't really play it. Quidditch was like Rugby to the Brits or Football to the Americans. The fans of the game were fanatical, playing pick up games and living and breathing the sport. Jasmine was no obsession, she even doodled little quaffles on her notes from time to time. She found a friend in Cassidy Bradshaw , a Slytherin who was only a year older. She was one of those rare breeds, didn't play but liked the sport. That suited Jasmine just fine, most of the time, she found that she liked being watched by friends.. Or maybe it was this particular friend. However today she needed to coax the girl out a little bit, get her up in the air because the Gryffindor needed to up her Keeper game. The best way to do that was, of course, practice but it was hard to pry people away from their mounds of school work. Not everyone took the gap year between OWLs and NEWTs as a cue to relax like she did, to enjoy her last carefree year at Hogwarts before serious and important tests loomed over her and ruined it all. Most of her housemates had their noses stuck in books on this fine Wednesday afternoon. Jasmine found Cass up somewhere in one of the higher towers doing something that couldn't have been terribly important because the Slytherin agreed to help her practice, not that she gave much room for protest. The lanky Lion escorted the pretty Gryffindor through the castle with her arm looped through Cass'. They had nearly reached the ground floor when Peeves swooped in causing his normal ruckus and pelting them with bits of chalk. They fled the stairs and into one of the corridors, charging down and barreling around corners with the poltergeist hot on their heels. The pair finally managed to give him the slip when Jas pulled her companion into a broom closet, of all things. She might be thin but Jasmine was tall and took up a lot of the limited, cramped space in the closet. She gave them no time to get comfortable, slapping a hand over Cassidy's mouth and pressing a finger to her own as the sound of rude rhymes and clattering chalk grew louder. The cheeky ghost was lurking right outside their closet door.

Cassidy was pretending what she was doing up in the high tower was Terribly Important, but it was all just an act. She was 'studying', which included the studious habit of hanging over her open textbook while she stared out the window, distracted by how nice of a day it was outside. She thought maybe going higher up in the castle would help, prevent her from seeing all the people frolicking on the grounds, but she thought wrong. The sky was absolutely gorgeous outside of her window, and she was making hard work of discerning shapes in the wispy little clouds - a far call from the history of magic book she was supposed to be reading.
Cue the entrance her lifesaver - Jasmine. It made sense, really. Who else would show up on a pretty day to drag her outside other than the Quidditch Wonder Woman? Cas was more than happy to help the girl practice, not that she really got a choice as Jasmine hauled her up and out into the corridors, but still. She liked watching Jasmine play. She was so graceful up in the air and it was kind of mesmerizing. Cas had these thoughts - and the real thing, walking arm in arm with her down the hallway - to distract her from the bland, boring world of history class, and she couldn't help but smile.
You know, until Peeves showed up. He always knew just when to show, didn't he? Bloody ghost. Cas flared up to give him a piece of her mind, a taste of his own medicine, but then he started throwing chalk along with his insults and it took the fight right out of her. She ran with Jasmine through the corridors, the bastard poltergeist seemingly inescapable. He just never gave up! They might have had to run forever or just give up and take the abuse, if it weren't for Jasmine and her wonderful ideas.
It happened so quickly, Cassidy had to look around in surprise when she suddenly found herself inside a broom closet, squished against Jasmine. It wasn't the worst place in the world to be...much better than outside in the corridor, where Peeves was fast approaching. Cassidy tried her best to follow Jasmine's orders and stay quiet, the sound of her hard breathing from running muffled somewhat behind the girl's hand. She was very nearly successful at this whole quiet business, too, if her eyes hadn't wandered from Jasmine's for a moment to spot a piece of chalk sticking out of the girl's curly hair. Cas bit down on her lip, trying very hard not to burst into giggles. In their awkward arrangement in the closet, Cassidy's arm was bent a bit above her head. She brought her hand down to pull the chalk from Jasmine's hair, holding it out best she could for the other girl to see just what was so funny.

Long gangly limbs folded awkwardly into the closet but Jasmine didn't dare move, not with the mischievous little ghost bobbing back and forth just beyond the door. Maybe he knew they were in there and was only playing with them, building up the suspense before he struck. The poltergeist seemed genuinely confuddled about their whereabouts and muttered more angry, rude phrases as he waffted 'round the corridor. The Gryffindor had no intention of making so much as a peep and would have even held her breathe had Cass not chosen that exact moment to reach down and pluck a piece chalk from the sixth year's unruly mane of curls.
She sniggered, her own eyes growing wide and horrified at the sound. Jasmine pressed a hand over her own mouth in an attempt to quell the oncoming giggles. It was funny only made funnier by the fact that they couldn't laugh without attracting the attention of a troublesome specter. Shaking with silent giggles she held up her hands mouthing the words 'okay, okay!'. She could calm down before she blew everything and alerted Peeves to their hiding spot. Speaking of, his ranting seemed to get quieter like he was floating off. Jas leaned closer to her snakey companion, whispering "Shhh. I'm going to see if he's gone." Did she always smell so nice? Anyway! The door.
She shifted her long limbs and inched closer to the door, carefully easing it open so she could peer out into the hall. The door was old like the rest of the castle and creaked as it moved. Jas gasped and giggled at the door's betrayal, slamming the door shut and pressing back against the wall and squishing Cass in the process. "You think he heard!?" she asked, straining her ears to hear if the ghost was whizzing back their way or not.

It wasn't the best time nor place for a giggle fest - but you try squishing two teenage girls in a closet together and see what happens. Cassidy's laughter made Jasmine laugh, which in turn made Cassidy laugh harder - and the fact that they were trying to stay quiet and not laugh in the first place just made it so much funnier. Cassidy nearly had tears streaming from her eyes at the effort, and she mad to mimic Jasmine's calming-down tactic, though it didn't help her very much. Cas stuffed the piece of chalk in her pocket - ammunition, should they need it - and nodded when Jasmine leaned forward and put forth their plan of action. A smile still lingered on her face, even though the two of them could very well be setting themselves up for another rude ghost attack. That Gryffindor bravery was admirable.
For exactly half of a second, Cassidy thought they were in the clear. Jasmine got the door partway open and no Peeves came rushing in, so surely he was gone to terrorize someone else. Then Jasmine pushed the door a little more, and it creaked so loud Cassidy wouldn't have been surprised if the whole bloody castle heard it. Her own eyes grew wide and this time she didn't try to conceal her giggles because Jasmine didn't and she couldn't help herself. If she was with Jasmine, they were having fun, period. Peeves could string them up by their ankles and they'd probably still get a laugh out of it.
Jasmine came stumbling back into the closet and shut the door. She squished up against Cassidy, causing the girl to put her arms in very awkward positions again. "He's going to hear me if you don't get off my foot!" She said, slightly muffled and still laced with a trace of laughter. Cassidy was having too good of a time in this closet, stepped-on foot and all, but they had to leave eventually - the girl refused to hide from that bloody ghost forever. At Jasmine's question, Cassidy listened hard for a moment, and then nodded as the sounds of filthy rhymes filled the corridor outside once more. She actually snorted in laughter, and was glad the darkness of the closet mostly concealed her blush. "Yeah, I think he did." She glanced around for a moment, just a bit hesitant to leave this exact spot. You know, safety and all... "We could try to fight him off?"
