APPEARANCE

DESCRIPTION: Miyu has a small stature common among native Japanese: currently standing at a mere 141 cm (4' 8") and weighing just 31 kg (68 lbs) - well, what else can you expect from a scrawny brat boy who has barely reached adolescence? Having been trained in competitive judo since five has helped him to gain a somewhat athlete build as compared to most other kids of his age. He actually has a pale complexion, contrary to the stereotypical belief than Asians are 'yellow-skinned'. His jet-black hair has a windswept feel, and his dark brown eyes often has a mischievous glint in them. When he is not in his school robes or uniforms, he only has one golden rule for attire: comfort over fashion.
PERSONALITY
POSITIVE TRAITS: Miyu is rather intelligent and perceptive for a mere eleven-year-old - partly due the strict ways his parents brought him up ("A 'B' grade is an Asian 'F'!"), but it is also stemmed from the sense of curiosity that most kids have towards the world and people around them, a natural thirst for knowledge. His training with his parents and also in competitive judo have hardwired both physical and mental discipline in him, which in turn makes him surprisingly composed for a young kid. Of course, boys of his age are at the time where they are the most energetic, and Miyu is no exception - whether it's playing sports or even some
NEGATIVE TRAITS: Miyu is aware that he's a smart boy - and he won't hesitate to utilize his slyness to save his own skin, only for his own sake. As the only child in the family, he isn't used - and thus doesn't like - to share things with others, which makes him seem rather selfish. He is a realist - so much so that he often suppresses his emotional side with cold logic, which makes him somewhat aloof and unsympathetic when socializing. When his hard-headed personality is coupled with his eccentricity, it only causes more conflicts within the boy and also beyond, giving rise to misunderstandings that can range from amusing to hostile. He's not much of a team player, and is notorious for his tendency to act on his own rather than sticking to the plan/crowd. Well, having a rebellious streak is all part of growing up, innit?
LIKES: Miyu is very particular about his personal space, so sometimes he enjoys private time for himself, to relax in solitude. However, it doesn't mean that he hates being around with people - in fact, he loves having people around... so that he can get some laugh out of them with little tricks and pranks, and brighten up his day (maybe even the peers around him, who knows). Also, he is obsessed with chocolates - the darker and more bitter it is, the better! It's a good thing that he can burn off those excessive calories easily, given his active and sporty nature. He is a sarcastic little shiet - he enjoys dishing out dark humor or snarky remarks from time to time.
DISLIKES: Miyu despises being ordered around by people (hey, no one owns him except for his parents!), and he is no pushover. Because of his name and the androgynous appearance, he hates being mistaken as a girl - that is pretty much an insult to his yet-to-blossom manhood! He also doesn't like shallow people who only cares about looks and judge others based on their apparel.
HOBBIES: Competitive judo, playing tricks and pranks on others, muggle magic tricks, daydreaming/napping/sleeping - or well, just being a hopelessly lazy bum
GENERAL PERSONALITY: Miyu's alignment is Chaotic Neutral. As mentioned previously, he has a very practical (at times pessimistic) outlook of the world and people around him: he doesn't believe in heroism and chivalry, and feels that everyone's motivation is guided by one's survival instinct, whether they are aware of it or not. While he doesn't despise those in power, he doesn't like the idea of being an obedient dog to authority either - he puts his own interests above all else. As long as his personal interests aren't compromised, he may be willing to go along with any lame plans the others come up with... if you can convince his lazy ass to budge, that is. He may be a selfish little brat, but that's because the selflessness is only reserved for his family - nothing is more important than his own parents to him in his world. Haven't I already mentioned that he is a literal embodiment of awkward contradictions?
BIOGRAPHY
Parents: Kisuke Kisaragi (formerly Kisuke Amano), Yuko Kisaragi
Siblings: None
Partner: N/A
Children: N/A
Other Family: Megumi Kisaragi (grandmother)
Character History: Kisuke Amano and Yuko Kisaragi first met each other in the prestigious Japanese wizarding school, Mahoutokoro - what's more, both of them were in the same year. To cut the long
Miyu was their only son, born in Kamakura, a city in the Kanagawa Prefecture and one of the well-known spiritual spots in Japan. Unfortunately, Miyu's birth only brought shame to the Kisaragi House - the heir to the House had always been a female, and Yuko was unable to deliver a girl to carry on the family's Onmyoji bloodline. This caused a power struggle within the clan that later escalated into a fallout, forcing Kisuke and Yuko to flee to England with Miyu to protect their child from the House's unreasonable wrath.
During daytime his parents worked hard to manage their small family cafe in the London Chinatown, but at night they were Onmyojis to keep the district safe from dark forces. Meanwhile, Miyu went to a muggle elementary school during the day, while continuing his Onmyodo training at night. He received his Hogwarts letter when he was eleven; his parents were delighted about sending him off to a Western wizarding school to learn magical skills beyond Onmyodo.
And thus, his adventure at Hogwarts would begin from here...
MISCELLANY
Wand: Cherry and phoenix feather, 9 1/2 inches, slightly springy
Former House: Waiting to be sorted~
Affiliation: N/A
Amortentia: Grass field (its spaciousness gives him a sense of freedom and tranquility... and football!), rich chocolate (he is a self-proclaimed chocoholic, anyway), sake - Japanese rice wine (reminds him of his parents, whom he loves dearly)
Magical Abilities: Onmyodo is a specialized form of traditional Japanese magic, a mix of natural science with occultism, which is originated from the Chinese philosophies of Yin-Yang and Wu Xing (the Five Elements). An Onmyoji is a practitioner of such magical art, using a combination of 'ki' (the innate energy within the human body) and 'shikigami' (paper charms or talismans to perform certain magic - somewhat similar to how a Western wizard uses a wand to cast spells - or summon certain spiritual beings and temporarily control them to do the Onmyoji's bidding). Onmyodo is often used in Eastern divination, and to purify/ward off evil spirits and demons. However, as Onmyodo is a very specialized form of Asian magic, there has been a controversy about categorizing their bloodline: they can be seen as Asian wizards with an uniquely 'pure' blood, or simply muggles with supernatural powers. The Kisaragi House is one of the few Japanese 'pure-blood' families left who still continue to keep and pass down the Onmyodo way; however, the females are the ones heading the House, and the status of men is lower than the women in the clan. Miyu's mother, Yuko, is supposed to be the next in line to succeed as the Head of the Kisaragi House, but is forced to flee due to a fallout with her family for giving birth to a boy instead of a girl to carry on the bloodline.
As Miyu is still an Onmyoji-in-training, he is unable to perform advanced feats like his mother. Currently he is only capable of using shikigami to cast simple spells and techniques, such as summoning low-ranking spirits (one at a time, he can't control multiple at once yet!), and animating simple non-living objects (do not confuse this with giving 'life' to the objects; it's just him remotely controlling the object like a puppeteer but with invisible strings).
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE
(This is from an old roleplay I did in another RP site just to show my writing skill for judging purposes, not to be confused with the same-name character I'm applying!)
Miyu helped himself to another round of free butterbeer - well, since it was ordered and would be paid by the blue-robed wizard anyway - while he plastered on his trademark grin on his face to welcome the Healer and the blond witch. If it wasn't for Artemis, he could barely recall their names (he could only remember faces; remembering names was too much trouble for him). He didn't react when Noelle slammed her heavy volumes on the table forcefully, missing his arm by inches, but he had to swallow down the urge to burst out laughing at the title on the book cover (How to Raise a Tarantula Farm - like seriously?). Any normal person who saw it would question Noelle's sanity, and Aiden's expression when he bumped into her had already proven that.
Spotting the few strands of rainbow-colored strands in the Ravenclaw girl's blond locks, Miyu couldn't help but feel smug about it: he had nicked a few phials of Rainbow Potion that Artemis was experimenting on and jinxed them with a weak Permanent-Sticking Charm. He then dropped a hint to Peeves and the poltergeist actually did the setup - it just so happened that Noelle was the one who walked right into the trap. He secretly liked Noelle with multicolored highlights among her gold, and he didn't feel sorry at all when Peeves dropped the balloons filled with the paint-like potion on her while cackling "wee Rainbowclaw" down the corridor.
Artemis was pretty much the complete opposite of Noelle: while the Ravenclaw was rather stoical and would usually just issue him an icy death threat, the Gryffindor would waste no time to give him a piece of her mind and chase him to the ends of the school corridors for a burning payback. It only added more entertainment to Miyu's remaining school life when Artemis became a Prefect in their fifth year - she was so fired up to catch him in his joke acts red-handed to make sure he would get the punishment he so deserved, but he was too sly for that and would send her running around in circles with his shikigami doppelgangers.
Unlike the love-hate relationship he had with the two girls (he was well aware that he himself was the main cause of all the drama, but he just couldn't resist getting amusing reactions from them), he was on rather friendly terms with the Hufflepuff, Aiden, though he found him a bit of a bore sometimes. They didn't share a lot of classes together, but on the Quidditch field the Korean-British was a formidable opponent - he was the only Beater who was close to throwing Miyu off his broom, and Miyu did pride himself as the fastest flier of their time. The horrible incident that happened in the Hufflepuff versus Ravenclaw match in their sixth year nearly killed Aiden and Quidditch was suspended for the rest of that year, but luckily he managed to recover fully. Unfortunately, that did not deter the students from joining the tryouts to be on the house team - in fact, for the Slytherin tryout, the crowd was probably the worst that Miyu had ever encountered. He even had to resort to setting off the flash-bang fireworks that he modified from one of the joke stuffs he got from Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes to disperse the mob of angry students who weren't picked for the team, but not without throwing in some fire-breathing dragon puppets to singe their hair for a bit of personal entertainment.
"You haven't changed much, Kisaragi. How's life without Peeves to do your dirty work?"
"Boring, of course. I kinda miss that dude," Miyu laughed in response. "But I don't want to go back to face Moaning Myrtle again. I swear she has hots for me." He let out an exaggerated sigh at the thought of dating a ghost girl.
Then Aiden asked Artemis about her acrophobia, which made him raise his eyebrows at her flustered reaction. He could vaguely remember the time the Slytherins had flying lessons with the Gryffindors, and Artemis refused to get anywhere near the brooms, jabbing her wand at anyone who tried to taunt her about it. Two girls from his house grabbed her both sides and lifted her off the ground when the teacher wasn't looking; Miyu was the only nearest one to save her from getting broken limbs later.
That was probably the first interaction he ever had with Artemis.
