It was a quiet night, and the perfect time for stargazing - scarcely a cloud to be seen, though it was a bit chilly in the Astronomy tower as the cool night air trickled in. Bat, wrapped in his large cloak with a bulky knitted sweater underneath (one of his dads at some point had tried his hand at knitting - it hadn't been perfect, but it was very warm) was sprawled out on the stone, tongue sticking out of his mouth as he alternated between peering through a telescope and sketching on his star chart. It was nice and peaceful, quiet, and Bat was greatly enjoying this assignment, even as he racked his brains for what the stars were called and which ones connected to form constellations. He was deep in thought over his sheet of paper when he heard light footsteps on the stair, and peeked up from his page to spy Miyu Kisaragi peering into the classroom. Bat waved at the first-year in a friendly hello. " Hi!" he greeted cheerfully, shifting to tuck his cloak around himself more tightly. " Here to stargaze? You're welcome to join me if you like," Bat added, and patted the space next to him. " It's a nice night for it." If a bit cold. Still, that would make it all the nicer to get a mug of hot chocolate from the kitchens later - added incentive to finish his assignment in due course.

Astronomy had quickly become one of the few classes that Miyu actually liked so far - no boring lectures (i.e. History of Magic), no foolish wand-waving (i.e. Charms), no toxic fumes (i.e. Potions), no tentacle wars (i.e. Herbology)... He could go on, but he would rather not waste time to rant about them and choose to focus on striking this piece of assignment off his checklist as soon as possible, which would mean he could have more free time for some personal fun. (Anyway, before he got carried away, Astronomy was all about lying down on his back and count the stars. A bit boring, but the perfect excuse to nap for a bit.) The first-year was racing up the moving staircases to the Astronomy Tower as fast as his short legs could carry him over the steps, a thick, heavy volume wedged firmly between his arms and his chest. He wanted another book to help him in tonight's homework, but someone had beat him first. Oh well, he would just have to get through with this one he had now instead. Once he reached the seventh floor, he had to stop before the door to catch his breath. How lame - he always prided himself for being more athletically fitter than most other kids of his age, but to think that he would get so tired after just climbing a few stairs? Well, if they were those stationary, muggle staircases and he wasn't carrying this stupid book, running up seven levels of steps shouldn't be a big deal for him... maybe. He heard some noises inside the classroom - seemed like there was someone else inside before him. Miyu peered around the door slowly, and was pleasantly surprised to find the sixth-year prefect, Bartholomew Caldeira. His eyebrows were in danger of disappearing above his forehead when the older boy invited him to sit together. He walked to Bat and sat down next to him; the moment his butt touched the ground, it sent a shiver up the young boy's spine. Brrrr!"S-Sorry that I'm late," he began, his teeth chattering a little. "I-I had to get this book first." Then showed the older teen the volume that read: Star-ing in the North, a Not-So Condensed Guide to Northern Hemisphere Constellations. "It's the only one I can get for this assignment."

Tapping his lips with his pencil thoughtfully, Bat tilted his head at the first-year who was now framed in the doorway and smiled in a friendly manner. Though he looked a bit surprised at Bat's invitation, Miyu walked over and dropped down next to him, stiffening the moment that he contacted the cold stone. Bat couldn't help it; he chuckled lightly, then sat up and pulled off his cloak, spreading it out to make a makeshift blanket to sit on. He had his sweater, after all - the fact that the knitting was less than perfect and it was an interesting shade of lilac wasn't really a problem considering that it was rather dark. Patting the spot next to him on the cloak, Bat eyed the large book with interest.
"Bit of light reading?" he asked, amused. "Anything is a good reference! You had much experience with Astronomy?" Bat added, casting his gaze back towards his star chart. He knew the wiggly shape in front of him, but what was it called... "Aha! Cassiopeia," Bat proclaimed triumphantly, sketching in the wonky "W" shape with a pleased expression. "I knew I'd remember that name eventually. Greek myths, you know, only for some reason I was thinking Persephone." He tapped his chin with his pencil once more, eyeing the heavens.

"A bit... I think," Miyu replied, tilting his head a little as he recalled the few occasions his mother would tell some stories about the night sky to him, though from an Oriental perspective. The tale of how the festival of Tanabata came about was probably one of the most well-known, of how the goddess Orihime (represented by the star Vegas) was separated from her mortal husband Hikoboshi ( Altair) by the Milky Way, and were only able to meet each other once a year, on the seventh day of July. That aside... From the bit of 'light'-reading, as Bat had called it, Miyu knew that many constellations were named after the gods and heroes in Greek and Roman mythology; even the horoscopes used in Astrology also came from how the twelve signs that humans could see during each period throughout the year. The young boy only knew the tip of the iceberg, the gist of the general stuff from skimming, but he had never exactly go in-depth on this topic. The name of the first constellation that Bat pointed out triggered something in the first-year's head. He had just read about it not too long ago, when he was flicking through this book he had in his hand. This Cassio-whatever was a queen of sorts, and a vain one at that... She also had a daughter. His eyes scanned Bat's star chart, until his sight fell on a 'V'-shaped constellation near the North Pole area. "This one," he placed a finger on it, his other hand opened the library book. "Andro-something." He stopped flipping the page once he found what he wanted. "Yeah, Andromeda! One of the constellations in the Northern Hemisphere that can be seen during fall period." He flashed a grin at his senior. Bartholomew Caldeira

"You think?" Bat asked, smile quirking up the edge of his lips, propping his head on one hand and considering the sky in front of them. "Well, that's as good a start as any. Professor Lau gives us a decent background, so if you have any questions he's a good resource." He cocked his head at his page again and sighed. "It's just not sticking in my head today, you know?" He usually wasn't too bad at Astronomy, but this evening it seemed as though his head was in the clouds rather than the stars.
His stuttering memory had apparently sparked faster synapses in the younger Ravenclaw, who leaned in to examine the chart, placing his finger on a "V" shape that was as sketchy as the "W" had been. Regardless, the first-year seemed to identify it, flipping through his book, and Bat peered at the pages thoughtfully. "Oh, good on you," he praised, scrawling in the name with a careless hand. "Excellent. Two down. Wonder why they're all Greek?" Bat peered up at the sky, adjusting his glasses. "Well, I guess the Big Dipper isn't Greek, though it's fairly literal. Doesn't it have another name? Is it one of the bears?" He tapped at his chin again, straining his brain to remember. "Ursa Major? No, is that it?"

Miyu bobbed his head as Bat chatted about the teacher of this subject. The mention of him made the young boy sulk a little, recalling how the girls in his class had a strange - almost obsessive - passion for Astronomy, going doe-eyed whenever Professor Lau talked to them. Well, not like he had any right to judge people for being shallow and superficial because he was probably no different from them, wearing different masks catered for different people, different situations, but he couldn't deny the fact that a person's appearance would make up much of anyone's first impression on them. It was just a matter of how far they would take that impression - which, in this case, the girls were obviously crushing on Professor Lau. That aside... "Mhmm," was Miyu's reply to the part about not being able to concentrate on their current task. The young boy was rather distracted tonight too, with his gaze fixed on the night sky above while his hand was flicking through the library book absently. He tried to squint at the dim stars with his naked eye. "Sometimes I wonder how the Ancient Greeks could make out so many different stars without a telescope." Then he scowled. "Not that I care about them naming stars after some Greek myths, but their names are so hard to remember - and pronounce." He looked down again at Bat's chart. "Bear?" the first-year raven echoed after his senior, then thumbed through the thick volume for the constellation the older boy had mentioned. "Ursa Major, huh?" It didn't seem like a 'bear' to Miyu... More like a horse or donkey, maybe? "Something about Zeus and Callisto - who the heck is Callisto, anyway? - and what's this?" He pointed at a star labeled as 'Polaris', before he slid to another constellation near the Big Dipper. "The 'Little Bear' - Ursa Minor?" Looking up from the book, he stared at Bat. "I'm not sure about this 'Ursa Minor' one, but in my culture, we know it as Hokutou Shichisei - the Seven Stars of the North." Bartholomew Caldeira
