APPEARANCE

DESCRIPTION:With three brothers, it makes sense for Hannah to be a bit of a sportier girl. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t care how she looks. She tends to choose her clothes for a combination of style and practicality – something that looks nice but she could still get around in if a work emergency comes up. Nail polish is out though because she has a habit of biting her nails. Watch out for the twinkle in her eyes because that means a joke or prank is coming. And you just might be the target. Most of the time she’s pretty laid back, adopting an easy smile and relaxed posture. But she can turn into a fierce lioness at the drop of a hat with her hands clenching in a silent signal that she’s holding herself back and whoever has dared anger her should tread carefully.
PERSONALITY
POSITIVE TRAITS: brave, knows her mind, stands up for what she believes in, strong sense of right and wrong, takes no crap, strong protective instincts, self-sacrificing, doesn’t give up, capable of keeping her head in crazy situations
NEGATIVE TRAITS: can be reckless, doesn’t compromise well, has a habit of stepping into battles she has no real part of, often puts the needs of others above her own safety where her job is concerned, slow to forgive once she’s been truly hurt, no filter when she’s angry, can overwork herself from a desire to help as much as she can, struggles to separate her emotions from her work (can get upset over terrible things she sees, although she usually holds it together until she gets home to Becca or Isaac), loyalty can blind her to the faults of those she’s close to (unless she’s the one they hurt)
LIKES: fast-paced card games (she’s the reigning O’Brien champion of Exploding Snap), when her whole loud family is all together, snow, dogs, jokes/teasing, cupcakes, getting one over on her brothers, the Harpies (partially just to annoy Trace), popcorn (she just might be addicted)
DISLIKES: being treated like a kid by her older siblings, feeling helpless (not knowing how to fix someone at work), messy pranks, people using tragedy for their own political gain, bugs (they don’t scare her, but they’re gross), transfiguration, large amounts of reading/writing, seeing the deck stacked unfairly against someone, boys saying she can’t do something because she’s a girl (bring it on!)
HOBBIES: kickboxing (girl has to stay in shape somehow), hanging out with her nephew and nieces, watching Muggle action/adventure movies (preferably with popcorn)
GENERAL PERSONALITY: Hannah’s a spitfire. She’s perfectly capable of holding her ground and will happily rush to the defense of anyone who needs help doing the same. Sometimes that gets her dragged into battles she shouldn’t be involved in. And she may get so focused on the task at hand that she fails to take into account all the possible dangers of a situation. But she refuses to give up in a battle, especially when it’s something she believes in. Her protective instincts and self-sacrificing nature making her perfect for the healing field, although she can sometimes give too much of herself to the job. And sometimes the more tragic things she sees are hard for her to shake. At least until she’s had some time to talk and/or hug it out with one of her siblings. She’s not all work and no play though. In fact, Hannah loves to have a good time. Particularly if it involves her siblings. Sometimes her loyalty may blind her to their faults, and she can certainly hit all their weak points when she’s angry. A fact she’s not too proud of. But at the end of the day, she would do anything for them.

Character History: Hannah was born last, but most certainly not least, of the O’Brien clan. Being the youngest of five made her a combination of spoiled princess and capable crusader. She had no trouble standing up to any bully who came her way, although there were precious few of them considering her four older siblings standing behind her. Most of her time was spent trailing after the two brothers directly ahead of her, at least until they were old enough to head off to school for nine months of the year. That left Hannah more or less an only child. The empty house eventually felt far too big and lonely, although it helped a little having her parents all to herself.
That didn’t last long though. When Hannah was eight, her parents went out one night and left her with a babysitter. They never came home. Instead, they were murdered by a pureblood extremist who took issue with a wizard marrying a Muggle. That left the five O’Brien children orphans with the three youngest now in the care of twenty-one-year-old Becca. She stepped up as best she could, but it was hard for a while. It took a long time for Hannah to truly accept her parents weren’t actually coming home. Isaac tried to be there for his younger two siblings as best he could. It was hard though having him away so much. When school was in session, things at home were just Hannah and Becca and occasionally Connor, who was constantly butting heads with Becca. And even when he wasn’t around, Becca was often running herself far too ragged to give Hannah all the attention to younger girl was used to. To Becca’s credit though, she did the best she could with what she had. She morphed into almost more of a mother for Hannah than a sister, and it’s only been in recent years now that Hannah is older that their bond has reverted into more of a sisterly one.
Finally Hannah was old enough to attend Hogwarts as well. She landed in the same year and house as the famous Harry Potter, a fact that probably would have meant more to her if her family had been more affected by the First Wizarding War. As it was, Hannah was more or less immune to his celebrity status. She built her own circle of friends and progressed through school without being too terribly affected by all the crazy things he and his two best friends got dragged into. Trace was immensely proud to have her in his house (the only two siblings in their family to share a house), and the two of the bonded over their shared identity.
But peace never lasts long. War began brewing in the wizarding world, and Hannah had a prime seat to watching the turmoil unfold. By the time her seventh year started, the O’Brien clan had pulled back into the family home with a Fidelius Charm to protect them. Having two Ministry workers and a reporter in the family made them targets for overzealous Death Eaters. Becca wasn’t going to let Hannah return to school, and there were several loud screaming matches in the shielded home before Hannah finally convinced her sister that she had to go back because standing with her friends was the only way she could help in the war. And the war had definitely come to Hogwarts. The Dark Arts were being actively taught and terrifyingly harsh punishments were doled out to students who failed to comply. Hannah’s inability to stand by and watch others be hurt landed her in the crosshairs repeatedly. By the end of the year, she was pretty much living in the Room of Requirement with several of her housemates. When Harry Potter returned to the school with Voldemort himself on his heels, Hannah was one of many students who insisted on staying behind to fight. The battle was brutal, and several students she knew were killed that day. But when the smoke finally cleared, Voldemort was dead and the wizarding world was still standing. And Hannah was standing proudly with it.
It was hard to just go back to normal life after everything that had happened. So Hannah didn’t. Instead, she sighed up to train as a Medi-Witch. Healing had always come naturally to her, and she progressed rapidly through training. There’s certainly been need of the profession in the last five years. The war may be over officially, but there are still plenty of enemies out there to fight. Most of the time, Hannah loves knowing she’s making a difference in the world. But some days can be hard. Like the attack on the London Eye. Hannah was one of the responders from the hospital, and it took a while before she could sleep easy at night again after seeing the people who were hurt and killed that day. It’s times like that when Hannah feels she needs to be doing more to fight back. She’s pretty sure there’s some kind of secret society Harry and his friends are part of just based on how they all seem to be there anytime something big happens. Being a Medi-Witch, Hannah’s usually on scene for anything particularly terrible. And too many people she knows that aren’t aurors have a habit of showing up at those scenes. If there really is some kind of group of good witches and wizards serving as a foil to the Death Eaters, Hannah definitely wants in. She just has to convince them to let her in. Well, that and confirm that such a group really does exist in the first place.
MISCELLANY
