Dear Alec,Alec Wayland,Mr. Wayland,Captain Wayland, I’m not sure if you’ll remember me. My name is Hayden. I was in Diagon Alley a few years ago when the fires broke out. You helped me get out of the shop I was in. I never got the chance to thank you for that. Which is why I’m writing you this letter. Trace said he could get one delivered to you so it wasn’t lost in fan mail. He also said your parents died that day too. I’m sorry. I know what that’s like. But I'm alive because of what you did, and I wanted to be sure I got to thank you for it. Thank you for saving me. I wouldn't be here without you. I hope you have a good season. -Hayden Alec Wayland Hand-delivered in a plain white envelope before a league press event by Appleby Arrows keeper Trace O'Brien, who explained it was from his recently adopted niece and offered to deliver any response.

Miss Hayden,
The Diagon Alley fires aren't something that I care to think about very often but I do remember you. I'm glad to learn that you're doing well and have ended up in the care of some lovely people. O'Brien is a good guy. It's good to hear from you and thank you for your condolences, I did lose my parents but also my younger sister as well.
If I'm remembering correctly, you're Hogwarts age? Are you having an easy school year? What house are you in? Feel free to write any time.
Sincerely, Alec Wayland Puddlemere United Captain

Alec,
Thanks for writing back. It meant a lot. You’re right about Trace. He can be a goof, but he’s a good person. His whole family are good people. Crazy but good. I got really lucky. I’m sorry about your sister. I didn’t know that. I didn’t have siblings before, but I do now. A little brother and sister. They’re sweet kids. And I think they like me, which definitely helps.
I’m in my fifth year at Hogwarts now. It’s been okay so far. I’m learning a lot. My favorite classes are probably Charms and Care of Magical Creatures, although Ancient Runes is pretty cool too. Some people don’t like it, but I think it’s fascinating. I’m in Ravenclaw, by the way. What house were you in? Did you have a favorite class?
I saw your game in Hogsmeade. I don’t know much about Quidditch, but it looked like you’re pretty good at it. Actually, I have a bit of a favor to ask, if you don’t mind. There's a kid I know that likes Quidditch, and he’s having a really hard time right now. It's a bit of a long story. I think he's mad at me for getting adopted. But I was wondering if you could maybe send me an autograph for him, if that’s not too much to ask? I promise I won’t go asking for one for every kid I know. Not that there’s really that many. But I’m hoping it might cheer him up. His name’s Toby. If you wouldn’t mind helping me out, it would really mean a lot.
Sincerely, Hayden Pierce O’Brien
P.S. I hope you like the drawing.
Delivered by a Hogwarts owl with a return address on the envelope. Enclosed is a detailed sketch of Alec on a broom hitting away a bludger with his bat.

Hayden, Siblings are wonderful. It may not feel like it just yet but soon enough you'll realize that your brother and sister will be your closest friends and strongest support system. It's part of the bond. Whenever you need it, you'll have two little cheerleaders there to motivate you. Little ones can be irritating, but that's their job so you'll have to try and not judge them too much for it. I don't envy you at all, I don't remember my fifth year fondly. OWLs are a beast, there's not enough galleons in Gringotts to get me to take them again. I honestly feel like NEWTs were easier, maybe it was just because I was beyond ready to leave in my seventh year and didn't care much what my marks were. Those are all very good classes. I was a Slytherin and naturally a fan of potions, I can respect the discipline and preciseness it calls for. I've recently developed an interest in Astronomy. I never thought I'd find myself thinking about the stars, but it's very easy to put things into perspective when you think about how vast the universe is and how small you are in comparison. What are you hoping to do Post Hogwarts? When I was in school they had meetings with your head of house as a sort of career consult. The Quidditch match in Hogsmeade was really something, wasn't it? I'm sorry to hear that your friend is having a hard time. Please don't hesitate to ask for anything you or your friend need. I'm happy to do whatever I can to help. Yours, Alec _______________________________________________________________________________________________ The owl delivered both the letter and a package containing this signed photograph along with a used beater's bat, which is also signed.

Alec,
My new siblings are definitely growing on me. My brother is super smart, so we talk about all kinds of cool stuff. I’m pretty sure he’ll be a Ravenclaw like me. And my little sister is adorable. I haven’t really been around them long enough for them to irritate me much yet. Being away at school probably helps with that. I actually sort of miss them, which I wasn’t really expecting. It’s easier with them than with my new parents. Not that I don’t like them. They’re good people, and I know I’m lucky to have them. It’s just different. I guess because I already had parents. It feels like they’re trying to fill someone else’s shoes even though I know they’re not. But I never had siblings. I think I might like being a big sister though. It’s kind of cool having someone looking up to me.
Everyone keeps saying OWLs are terrible. I’m pretty good at taking tests, so I think I stand a chance. But there’s definitely a lot more material this year than last year. And the amount of homework is ridiculous. I’ll have to study like crazy. It actually makes sense for NEWTs to be easier. By the time you get there, you’re taking classes that you either like or you know you’ll need for your job. It’s more practical. But with OWLs, some of the classes you just don’t care about. I can see why you would like potions. Sometimes it’s nice to have something in life be straightforward. I’m making a decent grade, but it’s not my favorite. The professor doesn’t let us experiment much. Probably because we might accidentally blow something up. But what good is a class if the professor won’t let you find the answers to your questions? Isn’t that what learning is all about?
Thanks so much for the picture and the bat! I know they'll mean a lot to him. He’s an orphan like me like I was, so he doesn’t really have anything nice like this. I'm hoping it'll cheer him up. I'll let you know how it goes.
Best, Hayden
