As the school piled on to the lawn in the early afternoon, the chill of fall just imperceptibly nipping at bare fingers and ankles hidden by robes, Minerva felt buoyed by the chatter of the happy, excited students. There were three large tables set up near the steps at the front for each team, emblazoned with their team names (as always, they were inventive - Minerva was just glad there wasn't one named after her this year). On the lawn, there were large blankets spread out, each with one or two jars of blue fire and large picnic baskets with hot chocolate, tea and other fall foods for the spectators to enjoy. It was a relaxed atmosphere, where students could cuddle up and chat with friends or watch the proceedings as each team vied for the number one spot.
Today's task was somewhat of a scavenger hunt, with a relay element to make the teams work together. After all, that's what the tournament was about! On each table were a series of envelopes, which the teams would have to work through. Within each envelope was a riddle; when solved, the riddle would tell the team where to find an item that one of them would have to retrieve. The first team to work through all of their envelopes would win, though each team was encouraged to finish regardless of the other teams' progress. Quitting halfway wouldn't help them later on!
Once the teams were set up at their tables, Minerva clapped her hands once for attention, rising from her armchair (she was too old to sit on the ground - she might not get up!) at the front to greet everyone. "Welcome," she called. "And welcome to our teams for this year's Tournament!"
She applauded lightly, and allowed the watchers to do the same before asking their attention once more. "Our first task involves quick thinking and teamwork to get the job done. Can our teams solve the riddles and retrieve what is required of them? We shall find out!" Minerva smiled at the lot of them. "You all know the rules, and I don't have to remind you of them. So, without further ado..." She turned to the teams and flourished her wand, causing sparks of all the House colours to fly in the air, "Let the first Quiz Challenge begin!"
This is a thread for spectators, their reactions and chatter among themselves.
The three teams each have their separate threads: Win-Gardium Leviosa, Dirigible Plums, Every-House Beans
