Every-house Beans - Amy Westwood , Donald Westwood , @kyles , Miyu KisaragiAs the majority of the school piled on to the lawn in the early afternoon, the three teams each headed to their own table at the front. Each was emblazoned with their team name, and this one was no different, with EVERY-HOUSE BEANS splashed across the front on lurid colour. On the lawn, there were large blankets and little fires spread out, and the table was no less cozy, with plump armchairs with blankets on them, a pile of HoneyDukes candy, and a number of large envelopes that appeared to be made of leaves. Today's task was somewhat of a scavenger hunt, with a relay element to make the teams work together. Within each envelope was a riddle; when solved, the riddle would tell the team where to find an item that one of them would have to retrieve. The first team to work through all of their envelopes would win. The relay aspect was in the retrieval - if one teammate went back into the school to get an item, the next teammate could not be the same one. This would make the teams have to work together to solve things and to sprint around the castle looking for their items. Once the teams settled, Minerva clapped her hands once for attention, rising from her armchair (she was too old to sit on the ground - she might not get up!) at the front to greet everyone. "Welcome," she called. "And welcome to our teams for this year's Tournament!" She applauded lightly, and allowed the watchers to do the same before asking their attention once more. "Our first task involves quick thinking and teamwork to get the job done. Can our teams solve the riddles and retrieve what is required of them? We shall find out!" Minerva smiled at the lot of them. "You all know the rules, and I don't have to remind you of them. So, without further ado..." She turned to the teams and flourished her wand, causing sparks of all the House colours to fly in the air, "Let the first Quiz Challenge begin!" The first envelope on the table was quickly grabbed and opened, the leaves crunching lightly under eager, nervous fingers. The riddle inside it read thus: ___________ Welcome to your first challenge! Just for clarity's sake, to progress on to the next envelope, you need to solve the riddle and retrieve the object(s) that it requires. However, if you must retrieve more than one object, one student cannot do it all at once. You will need to have each student retrieve something. As there are currently 4 students in the team and 2 NPCs, you may use the NPCs to help. You may not post twice in a row, or with an NPC, until 18 hours without your teammate posting. When the riddle has been completed, tag me and I will post the next envelope promptly! Good luck! |

Miyu began to pick up the keywords as he read the riddle with the rest of his team. Sharp; necessary for exams, but not allowed? He didn't know how magical assessments were conducted in Hogwarts, but he could make an intelligent guess from the way the different subjects were taught in daily classes. At the very least, there were two major components: theory, such as History of Magic and Astronomy, and practical, like Charms and Transfiguration. For practical exams, they would all need to use their own wand to cast some spells, and wands were obviously not sharp per se, so he could rule that out. For theory, it would be written papers... He recalled the time he was working on the History of Magic essay with Cecilia and Donald in the library about a week ago. He had made a stupid blunter that caused him to almost have to redo his homework, but luckily the senior ravens were there to save his day... "...How about quills?" he spoke up first to break the silence. "They have a sharp tip, and we'll need them for written tests, but I'm not too sure about why they're also not allowed at the same time... Is there some kind of quill that's banned in exams?" The riddle did specify that there were two parts - which meant they would have to retrieve two different items to solve this quiz question. "And what about ink? We need both quill and ink to write for theory papers, so they have to go hand in hand." He looked up from the envelope at his teammates, shrugging.

Donald was looking forward to this team quiz and working with his sister and friend. It would hopefully be fun if another else and any chance to take part in activities like this with his sibling was always welcome. It was such a good initiative that the school was doing stuff like this. Inter-house rivalry could be so silly at times. The young lad grinned at this fellow Ravenclaw and friend, Miyu Kisaragi ”Hiya” he said in a sing-song fashion. Before greeting both Amy Westwood and @kyles . Hopefully this would be a good little squad. Teamwork was essential it seemed. He looked at his fellow teammates to see if he could try and assess how well the group would do. He was sure that they would be fine. He turned his attention to the riddle before them. He puzzled over it. Being a Ravenclaw he felt that he should be able to get this but.....the answer was blank to him. ”Hmm...” his young housemate seemed to come up with something. ”Of course. The auto answer quill” Donnie said as if it should have been obvious. ”I wonder where we would get them from?” the 13 year old was not sure were about in the school would such an item be found. The caretakers office? Library? He did wonder. ((OOC: Minerva McGonagall On a point of order. Am I allowed to post as Donald then Amy before the 18 hour limit?)) |

Quizzes where always fun and the Gryffindor girl felt that she always could give them a fair crack. Besides working with Donnie should be fun and Cheryl was there as well and another Ravenclaw who she didn’t know (or at least didn’t know that she did know). The 14 year old was sure that they would do well. After all no-one could beat the Westwood siblings when they were united, right? ”Heya Don” she exclaimed when she seen her brother. ”Everything alright?” she said with a small grin. She looked over to the 1st year Ravenclaw Miyu Kisaragi and recognised him immediately . ”Oh....its you” she said folding her arms slightly. They had met in the trophy room but didn’t introduce each other. ”Better not let any of the trophies suck you in” she said sarcastically. The 4th year read the riddle and starched her head. She leaned into @kyles ”Let’s let the nerds do all the work?” she said in a small whisper as the boys worked out the puzzle. To be honest the Welsh witch was not being entirely serious. Her pride would not let the two Ravenclaws answer all the questions right. Especially since one of them were her brother and, besides she could be just as smart as he was. ”Why would they hold it in the library? If they are forbidden they be confiscated somewhere. she pointed out logically. It would be silly to just leave such quills lying about in the library. What purpose would they serve other than let students be lazy or cheat? |

Cheryl was excited to be part of the team and she was glad to have someone she knew on the team. Though Amy was not in her year, she knew her enough to get by. Their team had two gryffindors, two ravenclaws, a slytherin and a hufflepuff. She gave a smile towards the others and said "I'm Cheryl, sixth year and nice meeting you all". Well having two ravens was a plus point for them and when the headmistress announced for them to begin she went forward and picked up the envelope and read it out loud. She was an intelligent person, yes but when it came to riddles she was not that good. She decided to stand back and let the others think first and may be by then she would get some idea. She watched as the younger raven talked and nodded. It seemed to be the answer at least that was what she thought first. Cheryl looked at Amy as she spoke and in a low voice she spoke "may be, this time I am tempted to do the same." In her normal voice she spoke "so any idea what it is? Or what it might be?" For the first time Cheryl was a littel confused herself, at a first glance the answer seemed to be quills but she was not sure about it. Miyu greeted Donald Westwood and @kyles with a quick nod, but rolled his eyes at Amy Westwood's attempt to rile him with the sarcastic remark about sucking trophies. Keep it cool, he thought to himself. It would be a waste of his time and effort to give a damn about some childish taunt from a stuck-up nobody. If his almost non-existent team spirit wasn't bad enough, he had to be teamed up with someone like her. He wondered how thin his patience would stretch out with this arrangement. Ignoring the fouth-year Gryffindor, he turned his attention to his older housemate. "Huh, 'auto-correct quill', you say? That sounds cool." He raised his eyebrows at the name. Must be very convenient to magic writing materials to answer school work for you. It would make sense for such quills to be banned from exams, because that would defeat the purpose of having paper assessments to test the students' knowledge, of what they had learned for the whole year. It all makes sense... so they are getting close.At Donald's question on where they could possibly find the quill, he scratched the back of his head. "Well... the first thing that comes to mind is the common rooms. I mean, it's natural for some students to own such quill to do their homework for them, right?" Then the turned to address Cheryl's, "We won't know if it's the correct answer until we've tried something to eliminate this possibility. Better than wasting more time making our brain go around in circles with second guessing to nowhere." He shrugged.

Donald briefly wondered if he had offended Miyu with his quick nod of a greeting but decided to brush it off. Maybe it was nothing to worry about. The young boy knew that he worried way too about things like that. He didn’t want to cause a fuss though. He considered the 1st year a friend and he didn’t want to come across as paranoid, insecure or just weird. Especially to a younger year. Although he probably, maybe, already thought that. Soon his sister arrived to join them and seemed to be a bit friendlier. ”I am good thanks Amy...yourself?” he asked his older sibling back. They might have their differences but it was still good that they could hang out together. He was looking forward to working his big sister. He loved her even if he did not always agree with her or get one with her. However it did trouble him in the way she spoke towards Miyu. A frown came on his face and he gave his friend and sibling a bit of a questioning look. Clearly the two have had a run in of some kind. He just hoped that Amy had not done anything to the first year. He knew how she could be sometimes. However given as Miyu Kisaragi didn’t seem too offended by what his sister said he decided not to get too involved with it. He did not hear his sisters nerd comment. His mind was focused on the where. His sister made some good points about it not being in the library, although he was pretty sure he didn’t say that point out aloud. Maybe his sister was just voicing a similar thought or perhaps she just knew him too well. ”As Amy said, they are forbidden items. Maybe the school has stored them in one of our common rooms. Maybe the Ravenclaw one? But if they are forbidden it could be the caretaker’s office or the staffroom? Then again we cannot get into either of those rooms.” he mused out aloud. The more he thought about it the more likely it would be in one of the common rooms. After all students could not access the other places it could be. He looked at the other team mates, including @kyles to see if they had agreement. ((OOC: Minerva McGonagall are we on the right track?)) |

Amy smiled @kyles as she introduced herself. She supposed that they all should have done the same thing instead of rushing head long into it. ”I am Amy...by the way,...” she said in a manner that had a mild air of superiority about it ”...Amy Westwood, fourth year.” she looked around at the others but fixed a bit of a death glare on her brother who seemed to desperately suppressing a giggle at her expense. She was glad her house mate agreed with her plan. Still why let the Ravenclaws had all the fun. Her brother did make a good suggest with the auto-correct quills but she decided that, on this occasion, she would not give him credit for his good work. It might be a bit mean of her but she just wasn’t really in the mood to credit him with anything at the moment. She was in one of her bad moods towards the pale skinned Ravenclaw now. ”Then it probably would have to be in the Common rooms if we cannot get into the caretakers office, head’s office or staff room.” she said in confirmation to what Miyu Kisaragi said. ”But then surely ti be a room where any of us can access?” she said raising an eyebrow ”....it could be the library after all.....hmmm” she looked at the others. The where was proving harder than the what in her opinion. Maybe they were over thinking this. |
