It was a chilly autumn day when Amy entered the court yard. The young witch loved this time of year the colours of the leaves that lay on the floor, and the ones still cling to the trees waiting to fall, the yellows, reds and browns. The crisp air, the shorter days. It was all so magical in it’s own way and, sadly, it was all coming to an end soon. It will soon be winter and, while that was magical in itself, it could never quite match up to autumn in the find of the 14 year old.
This time of year inspired her musical muse greatly and she decided that as she had a bit of free time she would play autumn out with her flute music. Being a 4th year she was rather busy and she didn’t want to miss one last chance to play to the colours, the sounds and the visions of this wonderful time of year.
The Gryffindor lass dug her flute out from her bag and paused momentarily to think of what to play. She glanced around the dead leaf piles, the leafs that littered the floor and the ones still hanging on until the very end. Suddenly her muse struck her. She placed the flute to her lips and starting playing a beautiful, enchanting piece of music....of course occasionally hitting the odd bum note. She was only 14 years old after all and not quite a musical maestro. But yet it wasn’t half bad either.

Hogwarts was a great place to mope. Remus, in his time of grief, didn't really want to be alone - but sometimes, he needed some peace and quiet. Ironically, a castle full of magical children turned out to be a great place for that. Hogwarts was so big that one could often have an entire corridor to themselves as they wandered about aimlessly - but at Hogwarts, empty did not always mean alone. For instance, on the first floor corridor Remus was currently meandering down, rows and rows of ancient portraits watched him pass by with the occasional greeting or attempt to start conversation. And of course, there were always the ghosts, showing up out of nowhere and disappearing just as quickly with maybe just a nod of acknowledgement, usually nothing more. It was exactly the amount of interaction Remus could stand at times like these, and he felt a rare sense of peace as he walked.
At the end of the corridor, he paused at one of the large open windows and leaned into the frame. He overlooked the school courtyard, where the most delightful little melody danced its way up to his ears. Remus leaned in the window for some moments, enjoying the music, before he was able to spot its maker. A student! Remus couldn't explain why, but it always made him happy to see the young people engaging in hobbies at school. Maybe he was just relieved to see that at least some of them knew there was more to life than homework. After a few more moments of listening and tapping his fingers on the windowsill, Remus pulled away and went down the stairs, out into the corridor. Maybe he could stand a little more interaction today. At the very least, he would be able to enjoy the music better outside.
Remus pulled his cloak tightly around him against the crisp air as he stepped outside. He settled down on the edge of a fountain and nodded at the girl playing music. "Please, don't let me bother you. You're very good."

Amy wasn’t aware that she had an audience from the window. Not that it would make a difference she would have still have played exactly how she was doing so. Indeed she would have probably enjoyed playing it even more, especially in front of a professor. The young Welsh lass really liked demonstrating her talent. Still the arrival of Professor Remus Lupin caused her to turn to the teacher and stop playing. The 14 year old smiled at the DADA sir when he said she was very good. While the youngster was totally confident in that she was very good, indeed better than very good. Even if she was still young and learning the instrument. ”Thank you sir, I know” she said in a relatively matter of fact voice. ”You are not bothering me. Although I didn’t know that I had an audience.” Amy considered if she should continue playing and, if so, what song should she play next. The fourth year mused thoughtfully for a moment. ”Do you know this one?” she asked the teacher before playing on her flute the tune ‘Ode to Joy’. It wasn’t perfect, nor was it bad though.

The young Gryffindor did pause her music when Remus spoke, leaving him feeling a bit guilty that he was in fact bothering her. But then she smiled at his compliment, so he didn't feel all that bad. She made him chuckle with her confident answer - nothing wrong with that at all, he supposed, better than the self-detriment teenagers were so often inclined toward. "I heard you from the window," Remus nodded up at the place he came from. "It's a lovely day for music, isn't it?" Most days were.
The girl looked ready to play again, and Remus smiled as he listened to the tune, trying to identify it. It took him a few moments - he was never a musician himself, and his own youth was filled more rock 'n' roll than any classical tunes (Merlin bless the '70s). Luckily, the song the girl was playing was one he assumed most people would know - at the very least, from their parents and grandparents dragging them off to orchestra concerts. "One of my mother's favorite tunes," he commented as she played, swaying his head a bit with the music. "It's very beautiful. How long have you been playing?"
