It might be pressing her luck, but Luna was determined to make her statement. The Ministry was going to hear her objection whether they liked it or not. As the sole backbone of the Quibbler she'd already written several passionate articles on the subject but deep down she knew her magazine's reputation and craved something harder to ignore. The deadline for the werewolf registration was tomorrow and the Prophet was continuing the Ministery's crusade against the poor, innocent beings. Werewolves were people who were thrust into a very unfortunate situation. No one asked to be bitten, no one asked to undergo painful transformations. They were helpless and it was tragic. Luna believed that most werewolves were good people in bad situations, that most didn't want to hurt others and just wanted to live their life in peace, pick up the pieces after the full moon was over and move on 'til the next one. Because of this, she couldn't stand idly by and watch the Ministry squash them under their heavy handed rule. Luna stolled casually out of the phone booth and into the main atrium of the Ministry, a hand made sign that read 'Werewolves Are People, Not Animals' in bright, glittery red pain tucked under her arm. She held her head high, chin up despite the stares and whispers that her attire drew. The witch was not dressed in robes or even muggle attire but a dog costume, complete with a stuffed dog bone. Wispy blonde strands poked out from underneath the head piece and the dog tail dragged along the ground. She didn't say a word as she trailed to the very middle of the atrium and sat down, crossing her legs indian style and fluffing out her long, tangled hair. The former Ravenclaw and social activist wiggled 'til she was sitting comfortably before settling her sign on her lap. The costume was both to get attention and as a testament to how absurd and ridiculous the Ministry's laws were. It wasn't long before she drew the attention of Ministry officials who stood off to the side deep in a whispered discussion. A stray bystander or two decided to join her cause, walking over and sitting down next to her in a show of solidarity. _______________________________________________________________________ Open! Looking for fellow protesters or ministry officials. Maaaybe someone to arrest Luna, even if reluctantly.

Ezra was the definition of conflicted these days. He, like many reasonable citizens, believed not all werewolves should be persecuted just because of what was in their blood. That he believed in very strongly. But he also, as a Ministry employee - and an Auror, of all things - also had a duty to uphold the law. Ezra had a strong sense of justice. He wasn't stupid - he knew corruption ran deep within the Ministry and certainly didn't take everything they said as sacred word. But it was the law. As a stubborn optimist, Ezra believed good would always trump evil eventually and that was the whole purpose of justice. It might take a while, but good would eventually prevail, and through all the right alleys too. Good would become law. This he also strongly believed.
In the mean time, he had to deal with those breaking the laws, evil as they were or not. Many of his coworkers were increasingly reluctant or even downright refusing to do so. Ezra couldn't blame them, really, a lot of them were firsthand survivors or witnesses to the evils of the world; but that also left him to do a lot of the work. It wore him down. He was meditating more than ever and smiling a little less than normal, but he went on with it. His vision of that golden future kept him going, and his meditation helped him separate himself from his work when even that vision wasn't enough.
There had been a couple of protests already, each time getting closer and closer to the Ministry; and each getting a little more out of hand. Thus, when the frazzled Ministry employee came running down the hall to report a solitary protester in a dog costume staked out in the atrium, Ezra actually managed his first smile of the day. At least this one would be easy. Probably. One person was easier to handle than fifty, at any rate, and any person in possession of a dog costume sort of sounded like the sort of person he'd be friends with - whatever their beliefs.
Ezra patted the frazzled man on the shoulder and made his way to the atrium. It, of course, didn't take him long to spot the dog-person among the whispering crowds. Ezra chewed on his lip as he walked over in a rare show of nerves; already people were joining the dog-person in protest. Ministry people. "Ma'am...?" Ezra looked the dog over. There probably was a girl in there somewhere, indicated by the blonde hair poking out. "Ma'am? Do you have your permit?" Ezra absolutely supported protest as one of those ways to turn good ideas into laws. But, there were rules that had to be followed. Ezra was finding himself increasingly a stickler for rules these days. When he wasn't exactly agreeing with the laws he was upholding, he could at least blame the laws themselves instead of his own person or dignity.

Other people, Ministry workers and visitors alike, joined Luna to sit quietly in the atrium of the Ministry. None of them worse a dog costume, but their presence was more than enough. It gave her demonstration power, it meant that she was reaching people and that was all that she could ask for. Not everyone was so receptive, there were those who stood and stared, shaking their heads and muttering to themselves. Luna tried not to think ill of them, maybe they were blinded by something a werewolf had done to them or a family member to the point that they couldn't see reason. That was the only way she could understand people supporting the Ministry, through grief or fear. It was hard to wrap her head around the fact that people could be so cruel without tragic motivation, she didn't want to wrap her head around it because it would hurt her heart too much.
Luna spotted the Auror as he approached the gathering and knew that now was the time she had to stand strong. He wore a shiny badge but his posture was reluctant and nervous and she braced herself for what was coming. He asked for permits and Luna took a deep breath and readjusted her sign before looking at the large auror. She knew another large auror. Well, former auror. What was it with stature and law enforcement? "I'm only sitting." the witch said in her normal ethereal, dreamy manner. "My legs got tired, so I sat down. As far as I know the Ministry has yet to release legislation against sitting." Luna straightened her spine and squared her shoulders. She wasn't going anywhere.
After half a beat she added an afterthought "Although, I do admit the Ministry has put out so much garbage lately that I've stopped reading." Luna did not bother with restraint in the best of times and certainly wasn't going to hold her tongue when she was trying to make a point. "They may have very well regulated sitting." she laughed, it was funny to think about if not very sad. She adopted the most arrogant voice that she could manage, mocking the Minister openly "Only Witches and Wizards may sit, all others must stand. Soon it will be Only Pureblooded Witches and Wizards may sit, all others must kiss the ground they sit upon and throw rose petals in their lap!" She laughed again, before fixing the auror with the most reproachful look she could manage behind the dog mask. "And where will that leave you? Sitting, or standing? If no one fights for the beings, who will fight when she takes it further?"

"I think you're doing a bit more than sitting, ma'am," Ezra sighed. "You dress like that everyday?" The woman settled in like she wasn't going anywhere, and so did Ezra. He crossed his arms over his chest and kept his eyes on her, ignoring the presence of his coworkers all around her, sitting and standing. He'd clear the whole atrium if it came down to it. But this woman was obviously the focus of whatever...this was, and she had to be handled first.
His repeated question of, "Do you have your permit?" Was all but lost as the woman went on. Ezra sighed again and waited patiently. He could let her go on as long as she didn't get too loud, or obnoxious, because really he would like to know what she was doing (besides the obvious). Give her a chance to explain herself - maybe even look for a loophole that wouldn't end in Ezra dragging her away to be booked. Honestly, he wasn't the biggest fan of arresting people. Who was? Some people needed it, of course, a moment of restraint to calm down in. Or the truly wicked that just needed to be put away from other people for a while.
Ezra didn't think this woman in a dog costume was either of those, but he didn't foresee this ending easily, either. She was basically laughing in his face, reproachful and bitter in her speech. "No regulations against sitting, ma'am, just protesting without a permit," Ezra repeated himself again, holding the dirty look she gave him.
And then she was questioning him, turning the tables. Something he faced fairly often in his work, he found. They wanted to make it about him and his position of authority. Completely acceptable, Ezra was glad to answer questions...but this was not the place for it. Not with all eyes on him, many of those eyes belonging to his coworkers who could be a pair of loose lips away from getting him fired. Or worse.
"I suppose by your logic I'd be standing, as a Muggleborn," Ezra shrugged, raising an eyebrow. That was a loaded statement in and of itself. He was not unfamiliar with prejudice and while he didn't usually go flaunting such a fact about, it felt important here. "As far as fighting it, don't you suppose people are doing that at this very moment? What are you doing? Look around you." Ezra acknowledged his coworkers for just one moment. "But they won't listen if you don't follow their rules. You must know that." He stuck his hand down toward the woman. "Will you come with me, Miss? I'd be happy to discuss this further and maybe give you some peace of mind. Otherwise, I am going to have to escort you off the premises."
