The day before the lunar eclipse (Nov. 8) finds Addy Stark in St. Mungo's, searching the potions cupboards for wolfsbane to help Rosa through the night. Ashley Avery discovers her there and is rather suspicious... ______ When Addy became someone's friend, she would do anything for them. Her loyalty ran deep, and her attachment to her friends deeper, and so even though she'd only met Rosa last month, she was already willing to do whatever it took to keep her safe and healthy. Like steal potions from St. Mungo's, for instance. Addy had a very acute sense of justice, and how she'd been raised ( who she'd been raised by...) only served to underscore her devotion to undermining whatever bullshit the Ministry was publishing now that they didn't have anyone honourable to stand in their way. She might have been somewhat of a public figure, what with her position as a rising Quidditch star and the unfortunate orphan of the last Chief Warlock, but Addy's 'public image' was of little importance to her when she got fired up about something. Time had made her a bit more cautious. More to the point, her father's death, likely due to his openness about his own causes, had made her cautious. It hadn't been enough to stop her from being reckless, but at least she did things with a bit more thought. Which was why she'd wandered into St. Mungo's on some pretext or another, charmed the orderly into leaving her alone, and ducked into a washroom. There she pulled on a long-sleeved hoodie and applied a coat of dark, purple lipstick - on the understanding that people would remember the lips and the hoodie, but not the face - and then ducked back out again in search of an out-of-the-way potions cabinet. Wolfsbane was not regulated, but St. Mungo's would always have some, which she intended to pilfer for Rosa's use. She'd gone up a couple floors, and waited in a hallway to make sure that the cupboard wasn't occupied, before sliding in with easy dexterity and tugging her hood back a little bit so that she could see the labels on the potions. Thankfully, they were clearly labeled, though not in any particular order. Very conscious of her heart beating in her ears, Addy bent over the shelves, looking for Wolfsbane. They might not even keep it in the supply cupboards, she thought worriedly, pursing her lips, then reached up for the dittany and silver. Her hand hovered over it, thoughtfully... in fact, it was still frozen there when the door turned, and Addy froze in place, tugging her hood forward just as a familiar blonde walked in.

Ashley was not having a good week. The Ministry was all over the hospital, asking for records on suspicious creature injuries and taking constant inventory of both wolfsbane potion and the silver and dittany mixture used to treat werewolf scratches. The fact that they could even do things like this made Ashley livid. Couldn’t people see they had just traded in one corrupt regime for another? And on top of that, she hadn’t heard from Uncle Graham in days. Which normally wouldn’t be much cause for worry. He sometimes went weeks without contact. But between the registration deadline passing and the fact the Prophet actually seemed to be onto something about increased aggression in werewolves this time around, Ashley was worried sick.
Not that she had much time to worry. Work kept her moving with a revolving door of cases, the most recent of which had involved just narrowly managing to save the life of some idiot who had gotten bitten by a Venomous Tentacula. Honestly, people should need a license to raise those. Between that and a moron nurse constantly blathering on about the evils of werewolves, Ashley had finally had it up to here. She was done keeping her head down. Time for some subtle rebellion. The Ministry might be keeping a close eye on supplies, but there should be more coming in this afternoon in preparation for the full moon. If Ashley could teak the logs a bit, maybe she could smuggle out a few things. Enough to spare a werewolf or two from this circus. If she could just get to one before the Ministry, she could try to pass the injuries off as something else. A carnivorous plant attack maybe or a dangerous infection caused by an improperly brewed potion…
She was so deep in thought she already had the door to the potions cupboard open and one foot inside before she realized there was someone else there. Someone with their hand in the various bottles and jars on the shelves. Seriously? Now vagrants were stealing from the hospital? Not on Ashley’s watch. And hell had no fury like an Avery on the warpath. “What the hell do you think you’re-” Her steely voice stopped abruptly, along with her hand going for her wand, as the world suddenly seemed to pause. In that second, Ashley made two snap observations. One, the face under the hood belonged to her rival chaser and unofficial school nemesis. And second, Addy’s hand was hovering over the silver and dittany. Needing that could only mean one of two things. Neither of which Ashley could simply ignore, regardless of how much she disliked the person standing in front of her. Well then.
After a quick glance down the hall to make sure no one had heard the beginning of her tirade, Ashley stepped fully into the potions cupboard and closed the door behind her. She crossed her arms as she stared down Addy with the trademark Avery stubbornness. “You or someone else?” Ashley might be all for helping werewolves in need, but not all of them deserved it. There were victims like Uncle Graham and there were monsters like Greyback. And which sort Addy was trying to help would determine how Ashley played this. Look the other way and cover the tracks or offer Addy up to the Ministry to buy herself some good will that could be utilized later. But knowing Addy, she wouldn’t give that information easy. So. “In case you haven’t noticed, the Ministry is breathing down our necks. If they find out there’s silver and dittany missing, they will shut this place down so tight even people who need help won’t be able to get it.” Not the most veiled of references to werewolves, but arrogant Gryffindors couldn’t be expected to pick up on finer Slytherin nuance. “Unless of course they don’t notice.” An offer of assistance slight enough that it could be smoothly denied should this all go south. It was the most Ashley dared right now. She didn’t trust Addy as far as she could throw her. The two rival chasers had never gotten on, and after their seventh year when the Slytherin team was hit by an attack Ashley was certain the Gryffindor team had been behind… Suffice it to say she didn’t care for Addy Stark. But she couldn’t just turn her back on a potential victim either. Not until she knew more. “So is it for you or someone else?” The ultimatum was crystal clear this time. Answer the question or face the consequences.
