Thin Ice

Setting: The Homestead
Time: A few days after Theo is put under house arrest
Characters: Theo Ashland & Jon Ashland
Theo was reaching a point where he felt all spent up. He'd only been under house arrest for a few days, but those days had been nothing short of explosive. He didn't even make it to his house before he started shouting, yelling at Mali while they were still in the Ministry. When he did get home, there was more. This house arrest was no solitary confinement - three of Theo's family members had just become his unwilling cellmates. And most of them made sure to let him know how unwilling they were, too. Later on, Theo would realize he really couldn't blame them. For now, though, he would shout. He felt had no other choice but to be angry as hell. People were literally coming to his door and inside his home, tearing him down and breaking him to pieces. He had no choice but to defend himself, even in this destructive way.
It was tiring. He'd been through this cycle before, plenty of times. Inconsolable for days, his anger and grief eating away at him as well as the only people that could possibly help him. Theo's family put up with him, they always did, but he knew he planted bitter little seeds of resentment on days like these. And, of course, he hardly ever apologized in a way that really meant anything. He was sorry for the way he acted, but he wasn't going to change. Those seeds were left there even after his explosive days, waiting like little bombs for the heated fuel of any tense moment to come.
Theo could feel one of those moments building as soon as he stepped out of his room. It was late evening, and he thought he was safe. For the sake of himself as well as Meg and Jon and Dad, he largely avoided coming out at all unless it was late and they were in bed. The house sounded pretty quiet, so Theo stalked out of his room and toward the kitchen to put some dishes in the sink and make himself a cup of tea.
Quiet, but not empty. Distracted by the maelstrom in his head, Theo didn't notice Jon until he'd already stepped into the kitchen. There, his older brother's large frame over by the sink stopped him in his tracks. Shit. Out of all the Ashlands, Jon was probably the one who could - and had, very many times in the past - actually knock some sense into Theo. Meg was too nice and their father entirely too much like Theo to know anything about sense. Theo didn't want sense. Nothing at all about this situation made sense to him, and he just flat out did not want to hear it. Hopefully, Jon didn't want to say it.
"I need to get by," Theo said tersely from behind the - damn him - taller man. The blonde was blocking the sink and Theo wanted out of here as soon as humanly possible, but he couldn't just leave his mess lying about just anywhere. He was on thin ice as it was.
