Remus was wonderful, really. He was a charming, distinguished older gentleman who both enthralled him and intimidated the hell out of him. Remus just seemed so much more refined and dignified than he, and Gabriel wasn't used to feeling like he was at a disadvantage. He felt like there were expectations for him to meet Remus' level of superiority, though all of those expectations were in his head. The auror made a good show of putting on a calm and cool exterior while he was a nervous school boy on the inside. Today's adventure into woo-ing Remus put Gabriel so far out of his element that despite his best efforts, he just looked uncomfortable. He was too tall to fit his long limbs comfortably in his seat. His knees folded underneath the squat table decorated in a frilly linen table cloth and his knees knocked against the wood when he managed to shove them underneath. His angular face made a valiant effort to keep a neutral expression but ultimately failed, resulting in a slight frown. Especially when he peered into his cup... His tea was a disaster. Gabriel didn't really care for tea, he preferred a healthy dose of coffee and had tried to mask the flavor with extra helpings of sugar and milk resulting into a very light brown mixture peppered with undissolved granules of sugar floating about. The auror who managed to keep calm in the heat of a raging battle couldn't manage to keep a straight, neutral face when he braved the supposed tea, taking a sip. It tasted as awful as it looked, overly sweet in the worst way with a terrible texture to match. He nearly choked, coughing to play it off and setting the delicate cup back on it's saucer. Gabriel looked over to Remus and in an effort to save face, he donned his 'famous' half grin while asking "Do you know how we make tea back in America?" The auror smugly crossed his arms over his chest, regaining a bit of confidence with his sassy sense of humor. "We throw it in the harbor. The Brits were so offended they started a whole war over it. I imagine you still take your tea pretty seriously, hm?" Maybe if he could make the man laugh he could think up an excuse not to drink the abomination stewing in his teacup. _______________ Remus Lupin

Gabriel's commitment to embracing his new homeland and culture was nothing short of adorable. Really, they were having tea. At the tearoom of all tearooms, Madam Puddifoot's. Or maybe it was all just an elaborate attempt to woo Remus right off his feet - he just seemed like the type of person to enjoy teatime, British or not, didn't he? Either way, it was adorable, and it was working.
The atmosphere helped too, of course. One could only bear so much pink and frill before just giving in to the cherubs and staring adoringly across the table at their teatime date. Remus was smitten and what better place to be smitten than a dainty, decorative table that neither of them could barely fit their knees under?
Maybe the cultural dissonance was a bit bigger than he thought, though, because Gabriel didn't look nearly as content. He looked downright uncomfortable - not the least common of expressions in this place, to be sure, and completely understandable...but still. Remus still felt those little kicks of insecurity and self-doubt, that this was all one really long, really pleasant dream he would eventually have to wake up from.
It wasn't him. It was the tea. Gabriel nearly choked on it when he took a sip and Remus pursed his lips tight to stop from laughing out loud - which caused him to unceremoniously snort when the man made the most undoubtedly American joke he'd ever heard. "Bite your tongue, sir! Who's to say we won't again, going around making faces like that?" He laughed, raising a teasing eyebrow in response to that grin he loved so much. "As serious as death," he nodded, grinning back. He reached across the table and pulled Gabriel's saucer toward him with a finger. "Give it here. You have to make proper tea if you're ever going to make it in this country." Remus dumped out Gabriel's concoction into an empty cup on the table, and refilled the cup from the kettle. "Tea is very delicate, it's not like coffee. No abusing the flavor. Now - do you like very sweet, or less sweet?" He smiled over the cup, holding a teaspoon over the bowl of sugar cubes.

The tea and the frill (and obnoxious cherubs) were worth it, from the look on Remus' face. He'd face a hundred gross cups of the stuff for that look. There was...dare he say it? love written across the man's scarred features. It was a little too early to bat that word around, but the stirring in his chest was unfamiliar but very pleasant and he figured that's what love felt like. Wanting not only to impress and charm the one who invoked such a sensation but to be a better person worthy of winning his affections. Gabriel had always been pretty satisfied with who he was but Remus inspired him in ways that he never had been before, making him just as equally smitten.
The auror froze, watching Remus and his pursed lips from over the rim of his tea cup while looking very much like a deer caught in headlights. He was obviously out of his depth and being laughed at. Gabriel's heart plummeted straight into his stomach like a heavy stone, making his desperate to play it casually off. To be funny, make a joke or something.... and funny he was, apparently. Remus snorted. Someone so refined and educated and well.. Remus snorted. It broke the uneasiness into a full, natural grin. "Who are you kidding? You love my face." There the word was again, bouncing around in his thoughts and tasting good on his tongue and rolling easily off it. "Even with expressions like that."
How was it that someone could look so comfortable on the battle field, like he belonged there and also look at home while making tea? "Go on and teach me, then." Gabriel wanted to learn whatever Remus could teach him, of course but he could also watch him all day. Any excuse to stare was alright in his book. The blonde auror propped his chin up on a fist as he watched the man with his spoon poised of the sugar bowl. "Very sweet." Just like he liked his men. "Do you learn tea making at Hogwash---Hogwarts, I mean? Is that what you really teach?"

Gabriel looked so out of his element, Remus almost felt a little guilty. He tried his very best not to laugh in the man's face, the man that was trying his very best to acclimate to a whole new culture (and possibly, doing a lot of it just for Remus; he mustn't forget that). Remus didn't feel the urge to laugh out of any meanness or spite - Gabriel just had this habit of making every emotion and facial expression possible unbearably cute. Remus wanted to laugh at how giddy the man's wide eyes and every twitch of his lips made him feel, because he didn't know what else to do. He was feeling something very strongly for Gabriel and hopelessly lost in the feeling, enjoying every tortuously wonderful minute of it.
And as if having him right there to look at didn't drive Remus wild enough already, Gabriel could talk his way right into Remus' heart, too. Who did he think he was, batting around words like 'love'? Someone that Remus loved, probably, going on how his felt about it. Remus reckoned he could have spontaneously transfigured into one of the fat baby cherubs right there and then, by how much he enjoyed hearing that word out of Gabriel's mouth. "You're right." Remus had to forcibly blink himself out of the sickening lovesick gazing he was doing across the table. "I'd betray the crown herself for that face," he grinned.
Betray the crown, make it proper tea...Remus would indeed do a lot of things to keep that face smiling. Especially when it urged him to teach - he really did know the way straight to Remus' heart, didn't he? Remus smiled broadly at Gabriel before preparing his lesson. "Right. Never more than three sugar cubes. That's more than enough. Milk?" Remus doled the sugar cubes into the cup and laid his hand on the milk's handle. Gabriel had more jokes, and lucky for him, Remus didn't mind one bit having his very handsome student interrupt this very important lesson. He laughed and wagged a finger across the table. "Ah, you've caught me! It's true. An improper cup of tea is truly the darkest art of them all."
