Into The Dark

It was somewhat rare for Donald to break the school rules too much. Well apart from when he is squabbling and fighting with his older sister but other than that he was a bit of a goody, goody too shoes. He would always listen to the teachers, do his homework on time, work hard in class and be very studious, polite and well behaved. Maybe that is what helped make him a target amongst the bullies? Still that didn’t matter to the young lad now. He was about to break the rules in a very serious fashion and he was unsure what would happen to him if he got caught.
With butterflies in his stomach the 13 year old boy left the Ravenclaw common room and sneaked towards the library. Every moment he was out of bed after curfew he felt that he was about to get caught by a professor or prefect. Don jumped and frozen at every noise, and hid away in nooks and crannies just fearing that he was about to cross paths with a teacher, prefect or another undesirable, such as the caretaker, healer or a ghost. Especially Peeves.
Still, much to his relief, the third year Ravenclaw made it to the library undetected. However Donnie knew that what he was about to do next would land him in even deeper hot water if he was caught. The Welsh boy had doubts about what he was about to do. He could still turn back and return to the Ravenclaw boys’ dorm. If he got caught sneaking back he could claim he needed the toilet or something.
However, there was a reason he wanted to sneak into the restricted section of the library. It had been something that had been tempting the 13 year old for a few years now and he was getting more and more curious about the dark arts. It wasn’t that the youngster was interested in learning dark magic and he certainly didn’t want to become a dark wizard. No, it was not like that. However the Ravenclaw seeker felt the need to learn about the dark arts, to better understand and just out of a pure desire to learn exciting new things. To his young mind there was nothing more exciting than something that was forbidden. Even if there was a good reason for that.
He had been warned about it by an older Ravenclaw student, but the warning was ultimately unheeded by the boy. Was he making a mistake in undertaking this course of action? He was aware that the danger might go well beyond getting a detention and a howler from his parents. What if the darkness of the books took hold of him? Don decided to go ahead with his plan. His stomach twisted as he approached the forbidden section with nerves. The Welsh wizard in training walked slowly and cautiously, towards the Restricted Section, in part from fear of being caught, in part from the doubt that he was starting to experience.
As Donald just set foot into the restricted section he heard a sound that caused him to freeze on the spot. The pale skinned boy face filled with a mixture of guilt, shock, fear and panic.
