So it turned out that Theo and Gabriel had a lot in common. They were both tall and brooding on the inside, lovable teddy bears on the inside. Their love lives intermingled extensively considering his own boyfriend was very close friends with Theo's girlfriend. The pair of them were even together to night which meant one thing for him and Theo: bronding. The bros needed to bond and he had the perfect activity for the night. The auror invited the trollish healer over to his home, which was no more settled in then it had been when Remus last visited weeks ago. The walls were bare, still-packed boxes were shoved into various corners and nearly every available work surface had work paraphernalia carelessly strewn about. Stacks of files and pictures of wanted criminals, death eaters and known werewolves and the like.
While Gabriel much preferred to spend his time elsewhere... like at Remus' or perched comfortably on a bar stool (why he and Theo would be such good friends) he still considered his little London apartment to be very...homey. Cramped, especially for those bordering into giant territory, but cozy. When his company for the night was settled in on an overstuffed couch that didn't match any of the other furniture in the house, Gabriel shuffled off to retrieve a plain, brown paper wrapped package from his bedroom. There was a little bounce to his step thanks to the fact he started drinking ahead of the other man's arrival. Truthfully he'd been drinking more often than he should but it did wonders at keeping his spirits up during a rather stressful and confusing time in his life.
When he returned he held that package with such reverence. "Remember when I said that only the bro-eist of bros could handle gigglewater?" the auror asked with a mischievous glean in his eye. "Well, you have the chance to prove yourself now." Gabriel sat down on the couch and carefully opened the packaging to reveal a bottle of the infamous beverage. "It arrived by owl this morning, mail ordered from New York.. Or would that be owl ordered?" he shrugged, grinning ear to ear. It made him homesick, in a way. There was a swell of affection for his old home, especially given how turbulent his new home was getting.
He summoned over a pair of shot glasses and doled out the gigglewater, passing one off to Theo. "Pinnock's Gigglewater, the finest there is. Cheers." he raised his own glass before downing it in one gulp. He was an old pro at drinking the stuff so his smile only brightened, his cheeks getting a little rosy. Later he was likely to guffaw loudly with each shot but for now Gabriel just enjoyed the rush of euphoria and the extra loose tongue that came along with it. "So, how was it?" he asked, eyebrows raised expectantly. The auror reached for the bottle to pour another shot for himself and Theo. Maybe if he got drunk enough the fact that Mali and Remus were going to be alone together all night wouldn't bother him. He had to trust Remus, after all. It was just difficult, knowing there used to be a thing, however brief, between the two.

Theo was beyond ready for some quality bro time. Gabriel was a bit unlike anyone he'd ever met and Theo was just fascinated with his American ways. He still wasn't quite sure what a bro was, but he was happy to be one. It made him feel quite special, in a land of mates and blokes. Bros were fun, and good drinking buddies, and a good distraction from the fact that Theo was about to be a 31-year-old bro. Yeah, he could definitely use some bro time.
Theo navigated his way to Gabriel's London flat and soon found himself on a cozy couch in a room that wasn't unlike his own room at home (even though he didn't have the excuse of just having crossed an ocean to move into it). Well...the disorganization looked the same as his, anyway. The Auror work scattered over every available surface looked nothing like Theo's room, and while Gabriel was gone into his bedroom, Theo was busily trying not to look at any of it. He didn't particularly want to see the faces of Death Eaters peering back at him, and he wasn't sure why Gabriel would want to, either. Theo made a point of not bringing his work home with him. Maybe it was an American thing.
Gabriel returned soon enough with a wrapped package and Theo grinned as he bounced into the room. "Yes," Theo responded with as much reverence as Gabriel held the package, though both of their grins sort of ruined the whole act. Gabriel unwrapped the package and held the bottle of gigglewater for him to see. "No way!" Theo laughed. "This is awesome." Gabriel's grinning bounciness made a bit more sense now, as Theo turned his head back up to look at him. Maybe not gigglewater, exactly, but the blonde had definitely broken into something before Theo got there. Good. Because Theo was absolutely ready to make an absolute fool of himself tonight, as was likely to happen when drinking anything he'd never had before.
Theo raised his shot glass and clinked it against Gabriel's with a, "Cheers," before downing the whole thing in one go. Not bad! Not as burning as firewhisky, almost smooth and...and there it was. Theo felt a million little bubbles explode inside his chest and tickle up his throat, and by the gods, he actually giggled. It was a mighty strange noise coming out of a man-troll, but there it was. He looked at Gabriel, still giggling, and the blonde was only grinning and looking at him expectantly. "Very...funny," Theo said, bursting into another peal of full-on laughter. The moment he got a hold of himself, Gabriel was pouring another shot. Theo was still grinning madly, but the bubbles had died down for the moment. "That is amazing...and you must be the truest of bros. You know I can't stop until I hear you giggle now, too, right? Again!" Theo downed the shot and fell back against the couch in a fit of giggles.

Gabriel was mostly a nice guy and usually considerate of others. Of course his work scattered about would have made the bravest of men uncomfortable if they had Theo's infamous criminal history and run ins with the dark arts. The auror's knowledge was limited to what was reported to the Ministry but he got the impression from all of them.. Theo, Remus and even Mali that the history ran deeper than what the Ministry knew. If he had a moment of forethought he might've cleaned up a bit or at least turned over the files with photographs glowering from the cover but his pre-soak of alcohol before the main gigglewater event had ushered those heavier thoughts from his mind before he had a chance to think them.
Instead, Gabriel stood there and admired his bottle of imported gigglewater with nothing but grins and rosy cheeks. Theo who might've seemed uncomfortable when he first emerged from the cave he called a bedroom, matched his grin and enthusiasm. "Totally awesome." The auror bobbed his blonde head in agreement as he doled out the 'awesome' stuff. He was rewarded by a giggling troll, broadening his own smile. "Very punny." Funny, giggle... it was all word play. Trollish laughter filled the air, adding to the boisterous atmosphere "Of course, I've been a bro my whole life." And a gigglewater drinking one for the entirety of his adult life. Theo wanted to hear him laugh which made him determined not to do it and as the truest of bros he had a tolerance for the drink. "You're gonna need the whole bottle for that, mate.... Right? That's how you use that word?" he asked with a raise of his flawless eyebrows. Luckily Gabriel was not only assimilating but he had no other plans for the bottle beyond tonight.
Or Gabriel just needed a grown man rolling with laughter on his couch and another shot. The minute the alcohol hit his throat he was barking with knee slapping laughter. He felt light and airy and everything from the sound of the other man's laughter to the way a death eater scowled up from a file, looking miserable and angry among all the glee, seemed hilarious. "Damn!" he gasped between bouts of laughter and through the giggles. Even the stitch in his side from laughing to much couldn't dampen the euphoria. After a few moments the auror managed to calm his laughs into snickering and giggles as he reached for the bottle again. "My tolerance" gigglesnort. "must be" snicker. "shot." That was no reason to stop as far as he was concerned, it made the whole Remus with Mali thing easier to tolerate. Even that seemed funny. "Funny enough, I expected to be miserable tonight." he admitted as the giggles died down and he poured another shot. "It doesn't bother you, them being together?" That was enough of that, Gabriel threw back his head with the shot and fell back against the couch cushion, shaking with giggles.

Gabriel's puns and his ability to hold back his own giggles just made Theo laugh harder (to make up for it, or something), and it took him quite a while to calm down enough to speak. Giggles still slipped out here and there - the word 'bro' was funny to him all the time, but now it was just downright hilarious, especially coming in Gabriel's particular accent. "I'm jealous! I want to be a bro." Giggle. To hear Gabriel giggle, too, he informed Theo they would need a whole bottle of gigglewater. The realization made Theo rouse into full-blown laughter again, and he pointed at the bottle in Gabriel's hands. "Would you look at that, we've got one right here!" He nodded encouragingly at Gabriel's use of British slang, cheeks already stinging in a pleasant way from so much laughing and the big grin spread across his face. "Perfect. You're a natural."
Another shot and another giggle fit was had, and just like that, Gabriel was laughing - loudly and boisterously, and oh, was it joyous. It was truly a sight to behold, through the tears brimming in Theo's eyes from his own laughing. He wiped at them and watched Gabriel reach for another shot. "The thing's still practically full, liar!" He teased, bumping Gabriel with his elbow. "Am I going to have to owl all the other bros to come sort this out?" He raised an eyebrow as he started giggling again. "It's been a while. I'll let you pass, just this one time." He reached for the bottle after Gabriel poured himself another shot, filling his own glass again as Gabriel spoke about something other than bros and gigglewater.
"Am I that bad?" Theo snorted, the effects of the gigglewater mixing with an emotion he couldn't name - but the thought that Gabriel expected to be miserable tonight was a little disheartening. Gabriel's next sentence was just as confusing, leaving Theo with the biggest confused grin on his face as he watched Gabriel take his next shot and fall against the couch cushions. Them? Oh...oh. Gabriel was just missing his boyfriend, he wasn't upset at having to spend time with his bro. Theo relaxed again, downing his shot and falling back with Gabriel, sending a minor earthquake through the flat with his laughter.
"Why would that bother me? What, is old man Lupin gonna steal my girl?" Theo snickered at the thought for several moments before making a sudden choking noise, the laughter catching in his throat. He turned his head around quickly on Gabriel, his cheeks flushing. "I didn't mean that. He's not that old." Theo pressed his lips together, stifling the giggles that wouldn't stop coming behind his teeth.

"You're in luck!" Gabriel grinned, cheeks uncharacteristically rosy and warm from the gigglewater in question. "As one of the bro-est of bros, I can get you honorary broship." He was just sober enough not to get tongue tied over the past sentence. The taller, darker man was fully embracing the gigglewater, barking and crowing with laughter which made it so much easier for him to succumb to the alcohol's effects. Theo was fun and he wanted to have fun right along with him. The blonde snickered along as Theo called him a liar, defending himself with yet another pun. His tolerance was shot, they were doing shots. He cracked up and downed another gulp of the stuff.
"No, of course not!" The sincerity of his statement was lost to the effervescence of his drink, punctuated by barely repressed chortles and giggles. "That's not. What I meant. At all." Gabriel struggled to explain through the alcohol's effects as he worked seriously to look... serious. The gigglewater was having none of it, though. He grinned stupidly before pressing his lips into a line to hide it and look solemn. "You're a--haha--you're a bro. I just--teeheehee--I just mean..." Theo luckily worked through it himself or caught on because the two men were soon laughing together again. He lost his battle to look serious spectacularly, throwing in the towel and embracing all the silliness floating through his living room.
Gabriel rolled his eyes and scoffed. Old Man Lupin. "You're not exactly a spring chicken yourself, bro. Don't your joints creak while following Mali around?" Something about the conversation felt uneasy and it sobered him up rather quickly. He relaxed back against the couch, folding his arms behind his head. The auror grinned as the Healer tried to back pedal. "Nah, don't worry about it. I don't think of Remus as old as much as I think of him as aged. He's like a fine wine.." Theo was more concerned with calling Remus old, rather than the fact that their significant others had a short lived fling.. It clicked for Gabriel very suddenly and he popped himself up on his elbow, rosy color having run out of his face. "Wait.. You... You know that they had a thing, don't you?" Poor, poor bastard. No amount of gigglewater could make that better. "Not like dating but like.. Remus described it more like a few nights that they regretted?" It was strange and he wasn't really sure that he understood what had transpired between the two, but he knew that Mali meant something special to Remus and Remus meant something special to Mali. He was a little jealous of the witch, she had been trusted with the secret that Remus hid from him.

Gabriel's bro-y tongue twister was impressive, a sign of true broship. Theo tried to repeat it back to him, like some sort of bro oath, but his constant giggles didn't help and he lost his tongue to the twists. He dissolved into laughter instead, raising his fist to knuckle bump Gabriel's. He had seen plenty of Muggles in the pubs do that with their mates, especially when something exciting happened on their television sports, and they were the closest British equivalent Theo knew of to bros. Besides himself, of course.
As big and as bro-y as his ego was, though, Theo still felt a little downtrodden at Gabriel's expectant misery. He'd never had a bad time with the blonde that he could remember, though truthfully, they hadn't really had that many times together yet. Theo tilted his head as Gabriel tried to work his way through an explanation, the both of them killing any chance at a serious conversation what with all the giggling. Theo eventually caught on, though, and he thought the gigglewater actually helped him catch it. There was no way anyone could have a bad time tonight, not in this apartment. It was what was happening outside of the apartment that had Gabriel worried and potentially miserable.
But...what was happening outside the apartment? Theo still didn't understand that part, but awash with gigglewater as he was, he didn't really care. Gabriel was poking fun at him and nothing made Theo laugh harder than a thorough teasing. "You know just as well as I do that only comes from being troll-sized," he giggled back, poking Gabriel in his formidable shoulder. Between bouts of laughter, he watched the Auror with care, hoping he really hadn't hit a soft spot with the age comment. That was no way to have a fun night at all, and it took Theo a while sometimes to figure out where certain boundaries lay with certain people. Gabriel didn't sound too offended, though. It gave him a chance to brag on his boyfriend, which made Theo grin. "That's cute. So if he's fine wine...what does that make me? Two-Sickle, bottom shelf wine? I think I can live with that." Theo shrugged and started laughing again, quieting down and focusing his attention back on Gabriel at the man's sudden movement.
Gabriel's words ran sluggishly through Theo's brain. It had something to do with the gigglewater, for sure, but also Theo's utter inability to believe them. Not that he wouldn't, but that he couldn't. There was no way. It didn't make sense. Theo shifted on the couch, sinking further into the cushions with his face rolled toward Gabriel. "That doesn't make sense. I don't think Mali even knew him until after we started dating." And their relationship, volatile and whirlwind as it was, had been pretty steady since then. Except...except for Christmas. The bubbles in Theo's gut felt heavier now. He blinked at Gabriel. "Did he tell you when?"
