Gabriel was happy to have something to do that wasn't related to the newly exposed Order of the Phoenix. Well, mostly happy. It sort of felt like he was slapping Remus in the face by being relieved to step away from the case for a little while but the reprieve was desperately needed. For now he was assigned to patrol the hospital because some big to do in the Ministry was mysteriously very sick and some were calling it an assassination attempt via poisoning. Luckily, Gabriel wasn't posted directly in the boring old codger's room and had the liberty of strolling leisurely through the halls. He felt happier than he had in weeks (and a little guilty over that) and it showed in several unspoken ways. He stood up straight and tall, his steps were lighter and although he didn't wear a full on smile, the corners of his lips were definitely turned up.
The tall, muscular auror prowled the halls dutifully until his blue eyed gaze landed on a very familiar looking Medi-Wizard. Theo Ashland looked off.. Maybe bothered or distracted? Gabriel wasn't sure what exactly was off considering he'd only ever seen the man when alcohol was involved but he felt compelled to wander over and strike up a conversation. The man was busy rooting through a supply closet and Gabriel made his way over to lean casually against the wall next to him. Leaning seemed to fit Gabriel very well, along with his often tousled looking long blonde hair and general relaxed attitude, he was just the sort of guy you'd expect to see lounging around like that.
"Hey brother." he greeted his fellow wizard wearing a dazzling smile with just a hint of cheesiness. "You come here often?" Gabriel needed more friends beyond Remus and this was the perfect opportunity to grow one. Maybe it would help him get some clarity on his current relationship. The idea that maybe he was just sticking around because he was lonely and wasn't really close to anyone else had snuck into his mind late one night and refused to leave. He was pretty sure that it wasn't true, that his feelings for Remus came from somewhere genuine because they felt so different than anything else he had ever experienced, but the wizard would be lying if he told you it didn't sound exactly like his MO. He was selfish and he knew it. Besides, this was completely harmless. Theo'd been having a hard time lately and he was sure that the man would appreciate a friendly face as much as he would.
"So.." the blonde started as he pushed off the wall and swiped back stray strands of blonde. "I'm about to go 'patrol' the tea room." They had food in tea rooms, right? He was pretty hungry. Hopefully they had coffee too, tea reminded him too much of Remus. "Wanna come along? You'd be lucky enough to be under my personal protection as long as you promise not to swoon too much."

Theo was having a no good, very bad day. Or week, really. Honestly, that probably applied to his whole life - but there were some good parts in there he couldn't completely forget about. And that was exactly the problem. He and Mali were...he had no idea what the hell they were, but things weren't so good right now. And he couldn't stop thinking about it. That kind of torture in and of itself was more than enough for a very bad day - and then he'd gotten to work, and walked right into a scene from his no-good past.
The place was absolutely crawling with aurors. No Death Eaters - yet, anyway - but Death Eaters weren't the only organization Theo feared these days. He'd faced as much trauma at the hands of aurors as he had at the hands of Death Eaters, he reckoned. It was a different sort of trauma, to be sure, but that difference didn't help him catch his breath back or stop the shaking in his hands every time he turned a corner in the hospital and came face to face with a badge and a prominently displayed wand. Theo felt like the worst days of his life were starting all over again.
He tried to go out as much as he could, escape the halls of the hospital for as long as possible, but having to come back and face them again every time almost made it worse than just staying. After so many calls, Theo was running low on supplies too, so he made a point halfway through the day to bury himself in a supply closet for a while and restock. The small space made him feel safe, if a bit cramped because of his giant stature. He was arms deep in bandages when a voice made him jump.
Theo really, really needed to start paying better attention to the people lurking around him in the hospital halls. The last time he'd failed to do that, he'd gotten himself in a quite a bit of trouble. Luckily, this time, it was just Gabriel. Gabriel! Theo was surprised to see him, even though his presence made complete sense. Maybe the man, today all dazzling smiles and windswept charm, just didn't quite fit with the image of auror that Theo had stuck in his head. "Hi," Theo greeted, some of his surprise leaking out into his voice. "Brother," he added, a grin of his own growing on his face. After such a terrible day, this relief of a friendly face was like cool water for a dying man.
He was still dying, though. Metaphorically of course, but the reminders were all around them and in Theo's head as well and not even Gabriel's face could distract him from all that. He made a face at the blonde's question, glancing around the hospital walls with a grimace. "It's only my favorite place." In all seriousness, if he did have to pick a spot in the hospital that didn't make him instantly sick, it was definitely the tea room. Theo smiled again at Gabriel's suggestion, untangling himself from miles of bandage and extricating himself from the closet. "Sounds pretty serious. I better come; medical support, and all." And honestly, though he said it in jest, sticking himself to Gabriel's side didn't sound like such a bad idea. One auror to protect him from all the others. "That's a tough promise to make. You look very...er, smiley today. Are you drunk?" He teased, looking away from Gabriel to head down the hallway.

The way the big old Medi-Wizard jumped made Gabriel grin and chuckle in amusement. Theo was a tall and stocky lad with a dangerous reputation, especially if you read his Ministry file but Gabriel preferred the man he'd gotten to know over a few nights of drinking. Theo was harmless, really. Lovable with the occasional sarcastic quip. He was someone that Gabriel wouldn't mind really and truly calling a friend. The blonde quirked an eyebrow at the Medi-Wizards answer. "The tea room or that supply closet?" He gave the impression of a troll in his cave, a little reluctant to come out of the safe, dark place. He leaned in to get a better look of said closet before shrugging his shoulders. "Looks... cozy."
Just like most men, Theo could be enticed out of his safety cave with the prospect of food. He untangled himself and Gabriel's face took on a look of mock seriousness. "Oh yeah, medical support. Of course. Who knows what we'll encounter on the way." There was a lot of Ministry fan fare at the hospital but Gabriel was confident it that they were being overdramatic. There was nothing to indicate an impending attack and he doubted very much the Ministry official had actually been poisoned. "Smiley?" that brow was up again but there was a grin to accompany it. Gabriel was smiley. He felt good, less like he was drowning in a sea of confusing feelings and endless questions. "Drunk? No. I'm naturally this handsome and charming." The auror gave a toss of his long blonde hair with a sweep of his head to illustrate just how handsome he was.
The two men set out for the tea room in question. As confident as he was that St. Mungo's was safe, Gabriel kept a hand in his pocket and on his wand, just in case. He was a quick draw and found that people felt better when they didn't see a bunch of people prowling around with their wands out and ready. If the aurors were relaxed then they could relax too. "I'm not drunk... yet. I'll be heading to the bar... pub. Pub. I'll be heading to the pub after I'm done here." Pub sounded more British. Pop down to the pub for a pint sounded better than having a beer at the bar. "You could join me. I was thinking about checking out this No-Maj place by the Ministry, the Hog's Head is getting a little stale. Plus I arrested some of their regulars last week and I wouldn't risk this pretty face for a bar fight, what would you swoon over then?"

Gabriel found Theo's jumpiness amusing, and Theo couldn't really blame him. Elephant afraid of the squeak of a mouse, and all that. Gabriel also found his closet - for all intents and purposes, his troll cave - amusing as well, causing Theo to duck his head and grin sheepishly. "Cozy, and quiet. The place is thick with your lot today, yeah?" He glanced up at Gabriel, his eyes revealing everything he felt about that. He hadn't known the auror bloke very long, but Theo found himself not minding being a little vulnerable with him. It was a pub mate thing, sure - you didn't stumble drunkenly down the streets of Hogsmeade with a lad and not trust him afterward - but he thought it might have a little to do with Gabriel's occupation as well. As much as Theo felt intimidated by most aurors, the same aspects in Gabriel gave off more of a protective, confident vibe in Gabriel that Theo felt at peace with.
He even felt safe enough to come out of his troll cave. He now had a mission - provide medical support to Gabriel's smiley face on the way to the tea room. "Smiley, and drunk," Theo confirmed, grinning. He laughed as Gabriel corrected him. "Ah, right. And handsome and charming. I forgot those two, silly me." He rolled his eyes at the tossing of Gabriel's admittedly fabulous mane, still laughing.
They couldn't stand there and talk about how pretty Gabriel was all day, though. They had to eat at some point. Theo kept pace with Gabriel as they walked, looking either at the floor or at Gabriel but not really anywhere else. Even the familiar faces of the hospital made him nervous, some days more than others - many people hadn't forgiven him for what he did, and he doubted anyone at all had forgotten. Gabriel was a gods-sent distraction, though - he knew just what Theo needed. He smiled proudly at his drinking buddy's proper wordage, nodding his approval. "If I ever say no to an invite to the pub, hit me, that always seems to work," he grinned over at the man. "I'm off soon, too. And not a minute too early." Theo relished in the image for a moment, of the two of them sitting back at the Hog's Head after work - but apparently, that was not where they were going. Theo raised his eyebrows, laughing again at Gabriel's story. "You're right, too dangerous. I'm only in this for the face, you know. I wouldn't buy you nearly as many drinks otherwise," he teased.

Gabriel wasn't quite a mouse. While the auror never quite reached troll height he was tall by most Non-Ashland standards. He almost could be considered lanky if not for his muscled physique but his own height and stature were softened by his affable nature and harmless pretty boy smile. Theo sound less than enthused that it was 'his lot' patrolling the halls of the hospital and Gabriel casually shrugged it off. "Most of them are harmless. I'm surprised half of them know which end of the wand to hold." After the Ministry thinned it's Auror ranks by purging Order of the Phoenix members, a lot of those still in training were hastily promoted. Unearned promotion didn't inspire confidence from the American auror. He supposed it probably felt familiar in the worst ways for Theo, given his history with the hospital.
"How could you forget two of my best features?" He teased with a mock affront. Gabriel was an odd mix of vanity and humility with a playful side of cockiness. He knew he was handsome and wasn't above working it in his favor but most times that fact was only brought up in jest. Like now, when he gave his hair a flip. "You must be blinded by your jealousy, given your receding hairline and all." The auror teased the gentle giant with an easy grin as they headed off for their destination. He eyed the taller man cautiously at the instruction to hit him. That wasn't worth risking his face for either. Gabriel could take Theo in a duel, no question but he was smarter than to underestimate someone bigger than him in a fight. "I would never. I was taught to respect your elders, you know." It was a bit hypocritical to tease Theo about his age when he was dating a man over a decade older. Or was dating... The whole thing was messy. But Theo forgot that he was handsome and charming and for that he must suffer. Besides, dating was respecting. He respected Remus in a myriad of ways. His favorite way was with his lips.
Now was no time to stroll down that distracting path of thought. He had a Medi-Wizard to 'protect' after all, and plans for the bar afterwards to make. "Oh, same." he gave the taller man a friendly nudge with his elbow. "And as my medical back up you would naturally feel obligated to avenge the honor of my face and then they would beat up your face." The silly conversation was almost enough to distract from the mind numbingly boring task of 'patrolling' the hospital. He may be meandering his way up to the tea room but Gabriel still took his job fairly seriously. Blue eyes had a serious set to them as they scanned the hall ahead and his hand rested on the handle of his own wand, the 'American wand' that was only just warming up to him after he 'cheated' on it. "And then who would I buy drinks?"
Speaking of drinks, Gabriel got a very seriously look on his face as he looked over at Theo. "I have a very important question.. It has absolutely nothing to do with medical back up but...Do tea rooms also serve coffee?" Gabriel lost his taste for tea since he'd been away from Remus. He never truly cared for the stuff and without his tea loving werewolf there was no reason to pretend that he did.

Harmless. Didn't know which way to hold a wand. To Theo, those two descriptors didn't quite match up. He raised his eyebrows and said with a little smirk, "Oh, thanks, that makes me feel loads safer." He really did appreciate Gabriel's attempt to placate him, though. He also knew Gabriel was his best bet for surviving the rest of this day, so Theo wasn't about to run him off. He needed the companionship just as much as he needed someone who knew how to hold their wand the right way. The broship.
Theo chuckled over Gabriel's cockiness - oh, sorry, confidence - until the admittedly very charming and handsome blonde had the audacity to insult Theo and his precious head of hair. Theo gasped, ruined it with another chuckle, and ran his hands through his hair until it was sticking up at all sorts of odd angles. "Excuse you. Does it look like this mess is going anywhere? You're only jealous you haven't gotten to run your hands through my luxurious strands." As they walked, Theo worked on flattening his hair again, and feeling around his hairline just to make sure. At Gabriel's comment about elders, Theo snorted and turned his head to raise his eyebrows at the blonde again. "Yeah - respect? So that's what the kids call it these days?" He teased, laughing and making a kissy face at Gabriel. Theo was doing worlds better than he had been a few minutes ago - bros turned out to be the perfect distraction, as well.
"Accurate," Theo nodded, trying to keep a serious face as Gabriel launched into a very impressive hypothetical involving the the tragic destruction of both of their handsome faces. "No one. Ever. Because you can't just replace your bro." Theo was pretty sure that was a rule. He hadn't seen the official bro rule book yet...but he was pretty sure. He grinned at Gabriel's question, keeping his gaze straight ahead. "Yes, if you know who to ask. Leave it to me."
