Normal

All Gabriel wanted was a sense of normalcy. He wanted to pretend that he and Remus were two normal men in a normal, healthy relationship and there was nothing hanging over it. No blackness from the Ministry, his Order or his lycanthropy. He could pretend most nights, if he didn't think too hard, that they were spending time at Remus' house because they wanted to and not because they had to. His home was rather.. disheveled anyway. The entire apartment was a man slash auror cave with work paraphernalia skewed about. Who wanted to look at that when they were wrapped up in romance? Remus' home was just like the man, old without feeling dated coupled with an inexplicable charm that he couldn't quite put his finger on. No one would want to spend time at Gabriel's place instead of Remus'. And all the walks and shopping trips through Diagon and plays and tea shops they were missing out on? Well.. As long as he didn't think too hard, he didn't think about those.
It was easier to pretend when he and Remus were so comfortably close. The men were stretched out on the couch, the auror's arms snaked around the werewolf's middle, fingers brushing over his skin in idle patterns. His heart buzzed in his chest, wrapped up in Remus' warmth. Gabriel was determined to squeeze out every last minute of normalcy he could get before they had to face the terrible reality that there would be nothing normal about tonight. In an hour or so the moon would rise and Remus wouldn't be Remus anymore. He would be a beast who's blood thirst was only tamed by a potion and only if it was taken exactly right in the days before. Gabriel knew next to nothing about werewolves beyond the basics he learned in auror training and he didn't like to think about it. Everything he learned was heartbreaking and it was painful to apply the wolves in the textbooks to Remus.
Gabriel wouldn't be able to ignore the wolfy aspect of his boyfriend tonight. He was going to be present every step of the way, something he was feeling rather uncomfortable with. If the potion didn't work.. If he couldn't cope with watching what he'd heard was an incredible painful transformation... His heart's racing turned into nervous flutters just thinking about what was to come. His grip on Remus unconsciously tightened and his demeanor stiffened up in anticipation. Gabriel did his best to protect Remus from the Ministry but there was no protecting or comforting him from his lycanthropy. No way to soothe out the pain of the transformation. He pressed his lips against the crown of Remus' head, one last second where they were just your every day couple, before he sat up. "Are you sure you want to do this? Have me there, I mean." Wasn't it usually something Remus did in private? The blonde tucked a few strands of hair behind his ear and set to chewing on his thumbnail, the nervous tick betraying the confident steadiness of his voice.
As much as he hoped that Remus would tell him that he changed his mind, Gabriel was prepared to soldier through it if he didn't. This new stage in their relationship, the renewed trust and resolute honesty, was still new and refreshing and he couldn't let the werewolf get too far away. Gabriel placed his hand on the man's knee, just because touching Remus made him feel better. The man was real and solid and his.
