Gabriel and Remus were working together and honestly, that was just fucking cool. He got to work with the famous war hero Remus Lupin. A very prominent member of the recently outed Order of The Phoenix. And as confident as he was in his ability as an Auror... He was fangirling hard. So hard. He felt giddy but also very very self conscious and...awkward. It didn't matter that he had loads of investigative experience or that he and Remus were in a relationship and he was otherwise very comfortable with the man. This was different. Gabriel wanted to prove himself, he wanted to impress Remus and look calm and collected doing it.
He'd taken a few precautions to conceal his identity. His hair was charmed into a mousy brown color and pulled back into a neat little man bun, a contrast to his normal messy styles. He'd shaven away all of his stubble (he liked his stubble, it made him look laid back) and donned a pair of dark sunglasses to hide his blue eyes. The men were stationed across from The Leaky Cauldron on one of the benches that lined Charring Cross Road, 'casually waiting for a bus'. The pair of men had discreetly followed another pair of men and one woman from the visitor's entrance of The Ministry of Magic. Gabriel didn't have an easy time following them, having knocked over a rubbish bin, nearly smack into a pole and stumbled over his own two feet along the way. It was nerves, nothing but nerves. He was a competent and confident Auror on his own, just add someone as bad ass as Remus into the mix and he was a bumbling idiot.
Even now, Gabriel was uncomfortable. His limbs were held in a stiff and awkward position in an attempt to appear relaxed, one arm draped across Remus' shoulders like an immobile plank. The blonde was acutely aware of how sweaty his palms were and focused on breathing like a normal human being and not a wheezing fanboy who was so distracted by their idol that they forgot to breathe. It was hard to pay attention to the group across the street but he just barely managed. The trio was staring right at The Leaky Cauldron, or where Gabriel knew it to be. No-Majs or 'Muggles' (gah, that word.) couldn't see it. One of the men had taken out a camera and was snapping pictures of the place.
Gabriel, who'd just remembered to breathe again, scrunched his eyebrows together in thought as he wracked his brain for another possible explanation. It seemed so improbable but... "Do you think they figured out a way to see it?" He asked his companion, tilting his head towards him and speaking in a low voice. "It's like they know something is there."

This was it. They were actually doing this, back out in the field and working on something together. Remus was beyond thrilled. Those months of inaction under house arrest absolutely killed him - Remus was a man of action and there was no changing that. He learned at a very young age the evils of the world, and at an age not much older than that, he learned that he could indeed fight those evils. Remus had been in this fight for a very long time and he knew he wouldn't be able to stop. And now, he got to fight alongside the man he loved. The difference between hiding his true nature from Gabriel and including him in it was nothing less than staggering, only adding to Remus' excitement.
Not to mention, Gabriel was a bloody adorable partner in fighting crime. He was a bundle of nerves, today, sure - but a cute bundle of nerves, and Remus had absolutely no doubts about his actual ability. He knew Gabriel was clever, and smart, and a capable investigator - this partnership was just new, to the both of them. There would be a learning curve as they each figured this new side of one another out. That's why they were sitting on a bench today, just watching, and not shaking down any Muggles or anything of the sort. Baby steps.
Remus was already learning a lot from Gabriel. He'd caught the man casting concealment charms on himself before they left, prompting Remus to try to cover up some of his more conspicuous scars. Remus had a face that was hard to forget, so he usually didn't ever bother trying to make people forget it, but they were going to be around a lot of Muggles today, supposedly. Facial scars always seemed to catch the attention of Muggles more so than wizards, for some reason. Curious little things they were.
Curious, indeed. Remus and Gabriel were now watching a trio of Muggles outside of the Leaky Cauldron. What should have looked like nothing to them had certainly caught their attention. Remus leaned forward slightly, trying to discern what exactly that small device was in one of the men's hands. Gabriel's arm shifted across his shoulders stiffly, making Remus grin. Everything he was doing today seemed to be making Gabriel more nervous rather than less...but he couldn't just sit there and let the poor lad suffer. Remus put his hand on Gabriel's knee and tapped his fingers across his kneecap, an unspoken suggestion for him to relax. Remus tilted his head toward Gabriel when he began to speak.
"I just don't see how that's possible," Remus replied, though his tone suggested he thought it was very possible. "That device he's got, maybe...Do you know what that is?" Remus, who's only real experiences with cameras were with the wizarding variety (very flashy and unwieldy) and one Muggle cellphone camera (very small, belonging to Mali), didn't recognize the device the Muggle across the street held. "I found this book at the library, about these nosy Muggles that call themselves 'paranormal investigators'. Sounded mostly like hogwash to me, except...they've got all sorts of electric devices they use, supposedly for detecting ghosts. You don't suppose they're trying to make something like that, but for wizards? For their magic?"

Gabriel could feel his heart thrumming both nervously and excitedly in his chest. Investigations always got his blood going, but his partner on this particular project just made him nervous. It wasn't just the person himself but what they were doing. Remus had a lengthy resume with... freelance auror work... in the name of The Order of the Phoenix, but he had only just gotten himself over a big legal mess over it. That sat at the back of his mind, if they got too bold and brash that it could land Remus back where he was weeks ago, or worse. Plus, although Gabriel was never above manipulating and bending the rules, this was throwing them right out of the window. Back home the policy was pretty much leave the No-Maj's alone and exist around them and he and Remus were about to poke the bear.
He was jarred out of such thoughts when a finger drummed against his knee. The auror's face relaxed into a sheepish grin when he realized just how tense he'd gotten. Gabriel shifted gears slightly, shedding his professional demeanor to brush a finger over Remus' magically modified cheek, observing "You're not you without your scars." It was incredibly smart of the werewolf to cover up his scars, all in the interest of not being recognizable, but he just didn't look the same without them. Personally, he much preferred the old wounds on the man's face, it spoke of his battle worn past, what Remus had done and why there was no one better to do this with.
It was only a brief reprieve before he was back into investigative mode, observing the No-Maj's and wondering about what they were up to. "No-Maj's don't see how magic's possible and yet..." He trailed off, corner of his mouth curling up in a smirk. Then Remus inquired about the device in the man's hands and it made him feel just a little better, less like he was holding the man back. "It's a digital camera. Not as unwieldy as our kind, hm?" And not nearly as cool. Okay, so uploading pictures onto a computer was pretty cool and technically they had moving pictures via video camera but not in the way that magical pictures moved. They captured the personality of their subjects along with their image in a way that No-Maj technology could never hope to do.
Hogwash. The Brits were so cute. Remus' theory on paranormal investigations was both amusing and completely terrifying. No-Maj's didn't even all believe in the ability or validity of paranormal investigators but those investigators weren't wrong. Ghosts existed, and some of them had gotten decent at locating them too, although he wondered if the ghosts that were 'found' were just bored and teasing the poor bastards. "That's... That's a theory." But if they could figure out a way to detect magic? And look at them... looking right at a magical structure they shouldn't know was there. "A very strong one. Let's go ask them what they're doing." Without waiting for an answer, Gabriel stood up and headed across the street.
Once he reached the other side, Gabriel stood a few feet away from the group and looked up at The Leaky Cauldron. Something stirred in his chest, that damn protective streak. The people inside had no idea the danger that lurked outside. He took care to keep his gaze unfocused, like he couldn't really see the pub standing before him. His hands were casually in his pockets, though his fingers rested on the handle of his wand. After a moment he leaned toward the trio to ask "Am I missing something interesting?" in a perfectly accented British accent that closely resembled Remus'. It was a vast improvement from the poor one he tried when he first arrived to the Ministry, one he cultivated over time in an attempt to blend in when it counted.. like now.

Posting as Ronan Connor, a 29-year-old Muggle IT specialist with an interesting hobby:
He'd met the man in a pub. He'd been sort of drunk, sure, and looking back on it he probably had to admit drunkenness was at least somewhat at fault for the situation he found himself in now - but Ronan really did love a good conspiracy. Besides, that had been months ago now, and he'd had plenty of chances to drop out, to tell the man to fuck off and then find another pub to haunt after work. But he didn't. Ronan stayed, and he listened, and over the past few months his eyes were opened. There was something more to this world. Something miraculous and dangerous and possibly all the bits in between, too. And it was being hidden from them.
Now that was just bloody unfair.
His girlfriend was easy enough to convince. She took even less time than him to believe, especially once he'd brought her to speak to the man he'd met at the pub. And when the man started putting them to work, well, that was just a chance for them to bond. It was all very exciting. They hadn't exactly seen anything yet, but they were close. Ronan could feel it. The man had sent him and his girl to a couple of very specific spots in London today - along with another bloke Ronan had come to know in the past few months - to gather evidence, and Ronan could practically feel the dividing line of this world and the next cracking underneath his boots.
Magical thinking could really go a long way for a guy like Ronan. They'd been to a phone booth, just like thousands of others across the city, and now they were standing outside a nondescript strip of empty storefronts - and Ronan had been snapping pictures all the way, chatting animatedly with his cohorts. Sure, he couldn't 'see' what was really there, but he could feel it. He knew he could, if he just tried hard enough. He believed in everything the man told him. Why else would he send them to these random points across London? For what purpose besides exposing the hidden underworld of this Earth?
Ronan was in the middle of snapping close up shots of a dusty window when an unfamiliar voice spoke beside him. Ronan turned his head without lowering his camera, spotting a tall man in sunglasses through the viewfinder. Ronan stared for some moments before lowering the camera and staring for some moments further. Ronan didn't trust strangers to just be strangers anymore. The deeper he got into this, surely nothing was ever a coincidence. Was this man friendly, though, like the man at the pub - or was he one of the hiders? "Reckon so," Ronan finally said, his face falling into a sneer. "Your own business." They couldn't take any risks, not when they were this close. Ronan could feel it. He'd had similar feelings before, in his conversations with the man from the pub and on all the jobs the man sent him on...but this time it was different. He knew it.

Remus' little touch was as effective as he could have hoped, turning his own slight smile into something completely smitten as Gabriel visibly relaxed. They were good like that, just like they were good at working together. No one would guess that the two love bugs at the bus stop were actually undercover agents, right? Remus leaned into Gabriel's fingers on his cheek, a low murmur of laughter escaping his throat. "I'm lucky you like them, really. Keeping up this concealment is exhausting." What he said was not exactly in jest, though. Remus was worried about his magic. Not having magic for so long under house arrest had left him feeling weak and tired all the time - and now that it was back, he didn't really feel all that different. Something was off...but now was not the time to think about it. He could do this whether he had magic or not. He had to.
He didn't need much magic to watch a trio of very obvious Muggles, anyway. Maybe to identify their ridiculous amounts of technology, though...Remus smiled sheepishly when Gabriel pointed out that the device in the man's hand was, in fact, a camera. "Oh. Not quite, no," he agreed. Remus spent a few quiet moments observing the sleek little camera, his stream of consciousness pouring forth from his mouth, when Gabriel's...precise...observation of his theory made Remus turn his head back toward the hidden-blonde. Remus raised an eyebrow at him, the other eyebrow joining its brother a moment later when Gabriel stood up and walked across the street.
That...that was an interesting and unconventional way to conduct a stakeout. Remus was rooted to the spot, watching Gabriel walk toward the Muggles, but with the faintest of smiles creeping across his face. Yes, they worked together quite well. Remus had the tendency to act too cautious when working alone...he needed someone with a boldness like that to get him moving, lest he just sit and watch forever. He got up and hurried across the street a few moments later.
"Darling, are you picking on tourists again?" Remus announced his presence as he approached the group, sliding a hand over Gabriel's shoulder and smiling docilely at the Muggles. He'd arrived just in time to hear the man with the camera's very real gruffness and Gabriel's very fake British accent - both quite convincing, though. And it did not escape Remus' attention that Gabriel sounded almost exactly like a slightly cuter version of himself...there would be much teasing about that later. Now, though...now it was time to act the part. This was one of Remus' favorite parts. He gazed up at the Leaky Cauldron with a sort of confused, lazy curiosity...as if it really were just an empty building and he was trying to understand. "You know, the Eye is only a few blocks back down that way. It's a bit more...exciting." He scratched at his chin, turning his head to look at the Leaky from a different angle. "But, it is sort of quaint, isn't it? I've worked in London for years and never paid much mind to this particular street."

There was a little electric thrill in the tips of his fingers that somehow found it's way to his chest whenever he touched Remus. Every single time, from the first time through the bad times and now, sitting on a bench. It never got old, but the pleasant feeling dampened a bit with worry when Remus mentioned the word 'exhausting'. His brows furrowed in concern, lips thinning into a worried line. "Is this too much for you?" The blonde looked from his old werewolf to the trio across the way. He would hate to pack up and go home now. It felt like they were close to discovering some hard evidence that their apparently mutual concerns were valid. So, so close.... But if Remus wasn't up to it, well.. They would try again when he was. The uncomfortable truth was that house arrest had aged Remus and on some subconscious level it bothered Gabriel.
He stewed with that concern and his own discomfort and need to prove himself 'til Remus relaxed him right up. A relaxed Gabriel was more capable of thinking like an auror. Their little stake out wasn't going to get them anywhere. The pair of them had trailed the trio all day and watched them do nothing but snap pictures at magical places that he wasn't sure they could see. This had to count for something, had to validate something. That need drove the auror to his feet and across the street. The stakeout called for something subtle and investigative, although he didn't quite master the subtle part. He asked the No-Maj's straight out what they were looking at and the one with the camera wheeled around on him. The man peered at Gabriel through the camera's viewfinder. Gabriel raised a questioning eyebrow but otherwise seemed outwardly unbothered. Below the surface his heart was thumping and his mind was whirling a million miles a minute. Had they managed to modify the camera? Did it detect magic somehow? Or---Or was the guy just weird? He lowered the camera and brushed him off rather curtly.
Gabriel had opened his mouth with some clever retort, counterproductive no doubt but concealment charms didn't actually hide a person's true nature and he was predisposed to sass and sarcasm. Remus swooped in to save the day. His expression relaxed again, Remus had that affect on him. Gabriel's lips curled up into a light, fond smile and his arm slipped around the man's waist. "No, of course not." There was no need for further explanation as to what it was exactly, that he was doing because Remus played his part beautifully. "The Eye?" He repeated thoughtfully, before turning his attention back to the trio to strike up a 'casual' conversation. "I actually prefer to steer clear of The Eye. I don't believe a lick of what the media reported about the incident there last year. What was it they said was responsible?... Gas explosion, was it? Hogwash.. But Harry here..." Actors had to have stage names, didn't they? The name slipped in so easily, it being the most British sounding name that he could think of. Gabriel tapped his finger against Remus' hip, a silent apology at the chosen name. "He's a brave one, been dying to go back.. He loves the view from the top."

Posting as Marlene Weatherby, Ronan's 24 year old girlfriend who fancies herself an artist but waitresses to pay the bills.
Marlene craved excitement. Her artist career was going nowhere fast and she was fairly certain it was because she was just plain bored. Waitressing was dreadfully dull. It was the same old customers with their same old stories and their same old terrible jokes. The most interesting thing about her job was finding ways to get through a shift without rolling her eyes clear out of her skull. After it was finally over she would come home to her mostly uninteresting boyfriend for another generic night. Lather, rinse, repeat. Don't get her wrong, she was fond of Ronan and all. He was stable, had some sort of direction in his life and balanced her rather carefree demeanor rather well. But stable was bland and she craved something beyond that.
One night she was home with a glass of wine, desperate for a break from the mundane, when Ronan arrived home chattering about some bloke he met in the bar and some wild ideas about witches being real. It all sounded very thrilling, a whole fantastic world hidden just out of sight. One that they could.. they would discover. Once Marlene was drawn in, it was all she could talk about. She would babble on and on, drawing her own theories on the whole thing. Maybe it was genetic, or a mutation or maybe they'd done that whole 'unlocking unused parts of their brain' or something. Suddenly she was apart of something interesting. A pioneer, building a bridge between magical and regular people. Some of the others in their new little group didn't seem to like the idea of witches and wizards but.. well, Amelia envied witches, if they were real. Magic.. Wow.
Their task for the day was...well, boring. And she was getting fairly petulant about it. It was unfair, really, as she'd insisted on coming along just in case they managed to discover something new. Marlene huffed and sighed, whining about 'Really? More pictures?' 'I'm hungry, let's get lunch' 'It's too hot out here.' and 'Aren't we done yet?' The woman was standing off to the side, arms crossed over her chest as she stared at the building in question, Ronan snapping what must've been his hundredth picture, when a stranger interrupted them. Her annoyance was clear on her delicate features, he would only slow them down and draw out their task.
Soon he was joined by yet another stranger. "Oh, come on!" she hissed, propping a hand up on her hip. Then, the older one brought up the Eye. The Eye was exciting. An excited grin lit up her face, reaching clear up to her eyes. Marlene gently nudged Ronan's side, to make sure he'd caught on.
