Unlike the Chosen One, Draco didn't get loud when he was brooding. Draco got quiet. His spine froze over, as did his lips, and his eyes were always drawn downwards towards his well-polished shoes. Bottling up emotion was his specialty after so many years, and when it happened now it happened with a vengeance, as if Draco had turned to stone. Draco had become stone. Or perhaps it was ice; something slightly more fragile and bitter. He sat in a dim booth with a stiff spine and a stiff drink and brooded into the surface of the clear, slightly noxious liquid. His mother was at the house, or he'd be there. But, not wanting to worry her, he'd settled for a dingy booth at this quiet pub where he'd taught Johar how to drink a short while ago, alone with his thoughts. That was probably the worst thing for him, really, but he was known for self-preservation, not self-care and so here he was with his frozen spine and his glass. It was probably his third or fourth, but who was counting that mattered? It appeared that he might not be alone for long, though. Draco spotted a familiar face coming through the door and made a face, a frown briefly rippling across the surface of the statue before he gave out a long-suffering sigh and took another sip of his drink. He couldn't stop her from coming over, though he didn't know how patient he'd be tonight. Luna Lovegood

Luna had a lot to think about, but what else was new? It was her way, to ponder over things. Unfortunately her thinking subjects had been rather heavy as of late. The events of the past few weeks seemed to drag the wizarding world down as a whole, collective morale was low and drooping. It left a general note of sadness wherever she looked. Evidence of loss was all around her, from shops that remained closed while their keepers were buried or recovering to workers who took a moment to dry their eyes, grieving a loss as they pushed through their work day. The world refused to stop just because a dozen heart beats did.
Because the world didn't stop, Luna was busily working to get the September issue of the Quibbler ready to print. That task brought her to the Hogshead where she met with a squat, jovial wizard for an interview. The man had quite a few theories regarding the incident at the Eye including a connection to the Rotfang conspiracy that Luna found very interesting but improbable. Somewhere during the interview, Luna noted a very still Draco Malfoy nursing a drink. That very still Malfoy remained very still through the interview and the wrap up. It was troubling but understandable, she supposed. The Death Eaters at the hospital had to be a very traumatic experience for him, one that undoubtedly woke up ghosts from his past. Luna smiled broadly as the interview drew to a close, sending the wizard on his way with a hand shake and words of gratitude.
One task done, another task to tackle. The wispy blonde gathered up her things, packing away her quills and parchment in her patchwork bag. Luna stopped at the bar to order herself a gillywater before drifting off to join the former Slytherin Prince. She wound around the tables with lazy steps that seemed to wander before she reached her destination, sliding uninvited across from Draco and wiggling to make herself comfortable. The dreamy witch set her very tame drink down and fiddled with it for a moment before smiling up at her fellow blonde. "Hello Draco." she said serenely, guiding unruly wisps behind her ear. "You haven't moved much in a very long time, except for your arm." Luna ran a finger tip along the rim of her own glass. "What are you drinking? I'm fond of gillywater myself. I thought I would like a butterbeer today but I was wrong. I probably should have ordered one anyway, I need the cork. I'm making a necklace for a friend of mine, it keeps away the nargles, you know. It was impossible to feel cold around Luna Lovegood, Draco mused, and it was goddamn irritating. All he wanted to do was sit and brood and try and embrace the ice locked around his heart, be self-indulgent and self-destructive for a brief moment, or many brief moments, before he had to thaw himself out enough to keep going. But Luna Lovegood didn't allow that kind of frost in her presence. She slid across from him with a smile and a Gillywater, and Draco's expression stilled as she began to talk.
Merlin. Lovegood was one of the more harmless members of Potter's extended troupe, but she did have a lengthy way of saying things. Taking another sip of his drink to ensure that his tongue wasn't frozen, feeling the brief flash of heat curl in his gut, Draco raised the other hand in deliberate response to Luna's statement. "Maybe I'm practicing to be one of those street performers," he drawled, vowels long and voice slightly raspy. He peered into his glass and then raised it to Luna, the amber liquid swirling in an innocuous manner. Poison, he thought, then decided not to be overdramatic and murmured, "Courage." It was a bit more honest, at least, in some ways. Luna talked about butterbeer and necklaces and friends, and Draco muttered something inaudible. "Aren't you a bit too... sunny for a place like this?" he said finally, gesturing to the bar with an expressive hand.
