Minerva surveyed the Great Hall once more as the students filed in, pausing at the entrance as they took in the changes. Gone were the long House tables - instead there were several smaller, 10-12 person tables scattered around the room, draped with all four colours. The place settings were the same as always, but the banners on the walls were not of each house, but the Hogwarts crest, with all Houses together with the motto. Overall, the hall burst with colour and light, the ceiling obligingly showing gently twinkling stars, and Minerva herself was dressed festively in black robes with tiny stripes of blue, red, green and yellow. Why the change? Well, today was the start of the Inter-House tournament, the fifth of its name, which Minerva had founded after anti-Slytherin sentiments had been carried too far following the aftermath of the Second Wizarding War. She'd found it had wonderful effects in encouraging the students not to be divided, as they worked together to earn prestige, bragging rights and prizes not for their House, but for themselves. Of course, the House cup was still running, but the InterHouse tournament supplemented that nicely with a chance for the students to socialize, mingle, and be themselves. " Please, be seated wherever you wish," she called out to the chattering room. " I encourage you to sit somewhere new, with people from all Houses. I promise that the food will be equally good wherever you sit," Minerva added with a slight smile. She crossed her fingers under her sleeve that the event went off smoothly (there'd been anti- creature and pro-creature sentiments in the school, recently, and there was potential for unrest), hoping that her students would behave with decorum. After all, it was an event to celebrate - who didn't like feast food at Hogwarts? " I will keep the lengthier announcements until later on," Minerva began when the room started to quiet. " As, I am sure, you would much prefer to sate your rumbling stomachs." she surveyed the small groups of students, thoughtfully. " When we Sort you, one month before this," Minerva started, " We talk about the things that make each House unique and strong. Courage, wit, kindness, cunning - along with many other traits - and we tell you where you most belong." She paused, expression serious. " But we are not only defined by the traits in the Sorting Hat song. Above all, you are magical, a group of people who will shape the world in your own way - and hopefully, you will do it together. In this Tournament, we value not only your House strengths, but all your strengths, and your unity." Minerva offered a small smile. " I hope that you discover these things over the coming months. For now - let the Fifth Annual Interhouse Tournament begin!" she flicked her hand at the ceiling, where varicoloured "fireworks" appeared, and bowed slightly, retreating from the podium to let the Hall break into chatter once more. _______ Open to all! The House tables are gone, so sit where you like. Minerva will go over some more of the rules later on, but if you'd like to sign up to be on an InterHouse team, go to the registry here!

It might have been the fifth of it's kind but it was Aje's first. He thought he might like this tournament, he certainly approved of the new seating arrangements. The large former Auror was stunned as he filed into the Great Hall, head and shoulders above a majority of the sea of students. The tables were gone, replaced with round ones and the announcement made by the Headmistress (A fine woman that Aje liked even more now that he knew her in a professional capacity outside of the Order) encouraged unity and mingling above the students who were split into groups their very first night at Hogwarts.
Still a bit shy, Aje chose a still empty table to settle his broad frame at, knees knocking against the table as he crammed them underneath. He hoped that that the seats would fill soon, maybe a nice mix of students and other professors. He knew a few from The Order, like Lupin and the Headmistress herself but aside from the group he met on the train, Aje hadn't gone explicitly out of his way to meet his new colleagues. If they wanted to know him they would come to him, he was certain. Eventually his table did fill up, and Aje regarded his seatmates with his normal closed lip smile.
The dueling professor listened with interest as the Headmistress proceeded with her opening speech, promising to keep it short as to not delay the food. He was glad for this, his stomach was rumbling and felt uncomfortably empty in anticipation of the fabulous feast that awaited. He clapped politely as she finished up, quickly turning enthusiastic at the display of fireworks. Hogwarts never failed to dazzle him. Uagadou was grand, but Hogwarts was showy and bright. His interest was piqued for the tournament but for now food was the objective and the gentle giant reached for a roll, knocking over the water goblet to his right. "Gbaga!" he hissed under his breath, reaching for a napkin to help sop up the spilled water. "I am sorry, my elbows. You are okay?"

If he was given a choice, Des would have been cooped up in his dorm room reading a book or two, or maybe even attempting to explore the Forbidden Section of the Library. He didn't like being dictated at all on what to do but so far, whatever he did were behind the backs of the professors (i.e. sneaking out late at night, exploring the Forbidden Forest, foraging in the Potions closet for something that isn't really missed) but in the front of everyone, he was the type of student with a clean slate and one who just breezed by without really alerting anyone of his presence. He wasn't introverted at all, as a matter of fact he can keep up with a conversation and he had a rowdy bunch of friends back in the slums of London. It was just that he couldn't care less. He thought the school, no matter how magical, was still a school and he wasn't comfortable with a set of rules if he were to be honest. But he didn't want anyone to foil his plans and so he has to always, at all times, keep a mask on.
He entered the Great Hall, his eyebrow arched at the arrangement. He wasn't that bothered at all but he did want the safety of his House. He shrugged and proceeded to go to the back table just near the door's entrance, in case he has had enough and would want to go back to the dorms unnoticed. He listened to the speech of the Headmistress and took it upon himself that he should join the competitions. After all, he WAS allowed a bit of fun. He could almost yawn at her speech but decided to just sit back and cross his arms, a straight face plastered on. He looked at the fireworks and gave a small scoff. This was starting to get cheesy. He remembered his First Year here, he was so in awe and so excited that he didn't really care what went on. It was as if everything he saw on the television screen were true, to top that off, he had a family here in this world. And then THAT happened. And here he is, unmindful of the silly cover-ups the school tries to do hoping the students would forget what happened years back. He gave a small bitter smirk as the sparkling lights from the fireworks played on his face.

Cheryl was excited to be a part of the inter house tournament. It has started when she was just a second year and all these years she enjoyed being a part of it. For the most part she was happy to participate and forgot about winning. It was a nice solution for the still existing house rivalry though it dampened a little. Just the other day she saw one such incident involving herself and three others all from different houses. It was quite nice to see that not all believe in such pureblood and bigoted nonsense.
Cheryl walked her way through the crowds and into the Great Hall where the house tables were vanished only to be replaced by round tables accommodating 12 people at the max. She looked around and even though it had been the same for the last five years she still liked it. She paused at the doorway trying to find the best place to sit. She made it a point to sit with someone from other house every year and this year she decided to sit with Slytherin since last year she shared a table with ravenclaw and Hufflepuff students. She saw that some tables were filled up and some were not.
Cheryl made her way to one of the tables and settled herself down. She did not have time to greet those with her as the headmistress began to speak. Cheryl listened with interest as to what was being told. As a prefect it was her responsibility to remember such things for later use. She gave a chuckle when headmistress mentioned food, it was true though not many have the ability to concentrate when hungry as she looked at her brother and cousin in particular. She was quite impressed with the fireworks and felt that they were adding a bit of grandeur to the event. She turned her attention just add food appeared in their table and the hall was now bursting with chattering. She reached over to the bowl of mashed potatoes to serve herself.

Amy loved the opportunity to have mixed house meals. As much as she would not admit it she did enjoy eating and spending time with her brother. It was a bit like being back at home and it was always nice to have company to eat with. Of course the pair often would sneak into the kitchens and have lunch or some such thing together there and frequently made sure that they met up with each other when the time came but still. She felt that, sometimes, they did not do it nearly as much as she would have liked to. Although, again, that would be something that she would never admit.
The 14 year old entered the Great Hall with a small on her face. She also was a fan of the annual interhouse competitions. It was all too easy to get into a petty rivalry attitude between the four houses and it was nice to have an opportunity to mix and understand that, at the end of the day, they are all magical and all the same. Apart from the different personality traits that the sorting hat found in them. After all Hogwarts was only as great as the sum of its’ parts. Although, in her opinion, Gryffindor was the greatest sum of Hogwarts and contributed the most. Maybe Ravenclaw the less. Although that might only be because her sibling was in it.
Taking a seat at the table she made sure to save a place next to her for young Donnie to come and join her. She looked about eagerly for the brother. She was sure that he could be here soon enough. It was very much unlike him to be late.

Miyu read the letter from his father the umpteenth time as he walked towards the Great Hall for the Tournament feast. For some reason, he could feel the sarcasm oozing from Dad's calligraphic writing at his comment about his son's participation in the Inter-House Tournament. He wasn't wrong about Miyu being a selfish lil' brat - his motive for joining the game rode on his inflated ego at his own intellect that was ranked above his cohort's average, to show them that he wasn't an easy target for bullying and peer pressure nonsense. To stop judging him because of his height and failure at wand-works. He tucked the letter into his pocket before he stepped into the Hall; the feast had already begun, which meant that he had missed McGonagall's speech. Looking around, he spotted a familiar face at one of the tables. He didn't know that he could sit anywhere he wanted, and assumed that he would have to sit with his team. He strolled towards the person, tapping on her shoulder. "Hey," he greeted, arranging his expression to show mild surprise. "Seems like I'm in the same team as you, huh?" Amy Westwood
