Hermione had said it beautifully before, Ron had the emotional range of a teaspoon. Range might not be such a good term, more like capacity. Sometimes he felt one emotion so powerfully that it filled him up and left room for little else. Times like these only highlighted it, times of loss. Ron felt absolutely dour and no amount of chocolate frogs or Cannons quidditch merchandise could drag him out of it. His Mum had tried, bless her, by plying him with dishes upon dishes of his favorite food to no avail. Ron was just tired. Tired of losing people, tired of fighting. Tonks was a good family friend and he was rather attached to her. The redheaded auror fondly remembered nights spent around the table at Grimmauld Place with the woman. He couldn't even listen to a Weird Sisters song on the radio without tearing up. It made a bad combination for patrol duty, but thankfully he was partnered with Harry Potter. It felt like Harry understood Ron almost as well as Hermione did, he got the freckle faced redhead's little nuances, understood his actions and for that he was grateful. Ron strode through the dingy offshoot of Diagon with his hands shoved in his pockets, not even bothering to have his wand out. His face was darkened with a scowl and he regarded those who passed by unkindly. They were in Knockturn Alley, a place known for it's dark leanings. Any one of them could have been in on what happened to Tonks, you couldn't convince him that it wasn't Death Eater related in some way. More werewolves were turning back to old allegiances, maybe through intimidation or maybe through their own thirst for power. Whatever it was, everyone in this place looked guilty. "I reckon they should take the whole lot in for questioning." He murmured, kicking at a rock in his path. "Someone's bound to know something. Minister's not interested in finding who's responsible." Really, Ron just wanted to hit something or blow it up.

Harry hadn't really been known for anger since his fifth year. To be fair, he'd been a teenager under stress - as an adult, he'd gotten a lot better at handling the stress, even as it mounted and times got harder. Sarcastic quips were good for diffusing tension, both in himself and others, and it was better to deflect things and remain more level-headed in dangerous situations.
He wasn't finding sarcasm helpful now. Dealing with the new Minister and her increasingly tight grip on the Ministry as well as the case of Frank Longbottom and Mr Fischer had been topped off by a crushing blow. Tonks, sweet, funny, caring Tonks, had been killed - in her own home - by a member of a group that she'd wanted to protect. Harry had loved her like he loved the rest of the Order. He was friends with her, incredibly close with her husband, godparent to her children, and now possessed of an emptiness where she had once been. Remus was a wreck, the Order was mourning, and Harry wanted nothing more than a space to just lash out so that he could go on bearing this burden. Just one vent for stress relief, that was all. Then he could bear it, just as he'd tried to bear everything else.
Ron understood. Ron always did, and Harry had been so glad that they'd been sent to Knockturn together. The two of them could let it out, hopefully only get a couple of bruises, and then hopefully heal as best they could - but right now they needed to feel like they weren't just screaming into the void, like they could make a difference.
Harry wrinkled his nose in response. His own hands were moving, one returning to his wand pocket, the other clenched tightly. "Can't do that, that'd be effective," he replied, tone laden with irritation for the Ministry. "Or maybe they're being paid off. Minister's got to afford her expensive dye job somehow." Even trash-talking where nobody cared enough to hear them helped. Harry eyed the storefronts balefully, raising an eyebrow at someone who stared too long. "Whole place could do with a good scrub, innit? Especially the people," he added darkly, and the person scurried away.

Ron sneered at Harry's sarcasm. "Right, can't have anything effective or efficient where the Ministry is concerned. They're not ones to break tradition." The freckle faced auror had never been a fan of the Ministry, not since Fudge and Percy treated his dad so poorly and the whole lot of them tried to paint Harry as some sort of attention seeking nutter. Some bitter tastes never really went away, but Shacklebolt had been someone he could rally behind, made him believe in making a difference, protecting people like he, Harry and Hermione had done through their Hogwarts careers. This wasn't what he signed up for, though. To be used and manipulated into fulfilling some shirty woman's personal agenda. It made him sick.
The rock wasn't as satisfying as he'd hoped and Ron made a point to kick a rubbish bin as they walked past it. It made a loud, metallic sound when his foot made contact with the aluminum siding, startling several people in the area and somehow, someway, that made the heavy stone sitting on his heart ease up a bit. "Can't scrub off what's wrong with this place. You'd be better to level the whole thing. Who needs---" he looked around at his surroundings, reading off the sign "A store on Necromancy? No wizard's who's gone and raised the dead's ever done it with good intentions. Not like 'Hey Margaret, let's raise your dead husband for afternoon tea. 3pm alright for you?'" He shook his head, shoving his hands back into his pockets.
As they approached another trash bin he gave it a good hard kick. The tips of his toes stung from the impact but it brightened his mood enough that he didn't mind. Blast his toes, blast the crooked old witches looking reproachfully their way. Blue eyes narrowed and scanned the Alley for signs of trouble. "You reckon they're up to no good?" he asked, nodding towards a pair of wizards in long cloaks huddled in front of Borgin and Burkes.

Harry nodded in agreement, expression briefly mirroring Ron's as he thought of what the Ministry could have been... and how it continued to fall short. Perhaps Harry had a problem with authority (maybe) but despite the fact that he was currently employed by the Ministry, he was far from viewing the institution through rose-coloured glasses. Merlin, how he wished the Wizengamot hadn't been able to oust Shacklebolt. Maybe they should consider a coup...
He was tired of wars, though. Right now he'd just rather get into a good clean duel or fistfight. Ron seemed to feel the same way, kicking around some of the inanimate denizens of Knockturn Alley. "Use a really large mop?" he suggested, "Or just -" he made a violent gesture with one hand in agreement with Ron's suggestion to level it. "Granted," Harry drawled, "That would make for an interesting tea. Bit smelly though."
Ron pointed out a couple of witches looking their way with marked disapproval, and Harry, as a mature and emotionally stable adult, made a face at them. "Well," he said, his own gaze following Ron's, "Only one way to find out." He adjusted his collar and badge and gave a speaking glance Ron's way (he would understand) before starting to casually saunter in the direction of the wizards... if "casually saunter" meant a brisk, intent stride into trouble.
