The Quidditch Match... Alec didn't want to talk about it for several reasons, and that was a rule for this little outing. No heavy conversations, nothing serious. He was meeting Harry Potter , the man who graciously agreed to stand in as Seeker when both his main string and reserve players had fallen ill, for a drink. A 'Thank You' for his help ontop of their prearranged compensation. Plus, there was a little bit of an ulterior motive. Alec was a lot of people's celebrity crush with his dark hair, muscled physique and charming smile but the man had a crush of his own. The Boy Who Lived. He respected what that man had achieved in his life time, both on and off the pitch, and who could resist those beautiful green eyes? Merlin, the man was such an effortless heart throb. Normally Alec was not one to embrace such feelings, but his recent--erm--friendship? with the Astronomy Professor made him bold. He wouldn't touch, but Alec could look and maybe... banter a bit. The Beater ran a hand through dark, windswept locks as he strode briskly into the pub. He was uncharacteristically ahead of schedule, normally he kept his company waiting as Quidditch practice ran over or he got held up at some fan event but one couldn't keep their idol waiting. Potter hadn't arrived just yet (should he call him Harry? Be still his beating heart) and he swooped by the bar to grab a little liquid courage to quell shy nerves and headed off to fold his tall frame into a booth by the door. He downed the firewhiskey in a long sip and was about to signal for another when the Chosen One himself darkened the pub's doorway. A alcohol tinged grin made it's way across Alec's handsome features as he signaled the younger man over. " 'Ello. Glad you could make it. How've you been?" he asked, elbows resting on the table as he leaned ever so slightly closer.

After the Quidditch Match had ended up being so very disastrous, Harry felt the least he could do was go for a drink with the man who'd invited him. Though public events were often being targeted as of late, Harry had a suspicion as to why this one had been, and it had to do with the new players... but that was work talk, and he had a feeling that Alec would prefer the work talk be left at work. Experiencing that sort of thing was enough, really. Now was just for a good time, unless Death Eaters wandered into the Three Broomsticks (and if they did, Harry would personally expel them with glee).
Apparating into Hogsmeade, having just barely exchanged uniform for comfortable jeans and a bomber jacket, Harry shook out his messy hair (he should really get a haircut, as Molly Weasley was very quick to point out) and hunched up his shoulders against the slight chill, picking up the pace until he reached the Three Broomsticks. It was always a place of good memories, and now he could drink things other than Butterbeer it was even better.
Peering in the doorway, he spotted Alec almost instantly and waved, making a brief detour to pick up a new drink for Alec and one for himself before sliding in across from the other man with a nod of hello. "Hey," he greeted pleasantly, passing across the drink and raising his own glass to Alec. "Not too bad. Busy, but that's fairly standard. How about you?" Harry asked casually, sipping from his glass. He quirked an eyebrow over the rim. "Your Seeker back in shape?"

Alec had drained his drink by the time the famous Boy Who Lived joined him, but thankfully Potter was ever the hero and slid another over to him. The Quidditch player took the glass and raised it, mirroring the auror. "Thank you." He was tempted to throw a wink in with his gratitude. It was strange, Alec had been romantically reserved and restrained throughout his adult life but his recent infatuation with one of the Hogwarts' professors had woken up a genuine flirty side. Made him bold, and allowed him to sit back and admire the... sights. Alec had a thing for dark hair and pretty eyes.
"I imagine work as an auror gets quite busy." Alec said with half a charming smile before taking a sip of the drink. He set the glass down and leaned on his elbows. "And quite a bit more interesting than my job." The debonair captain leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms and tilting his head. "My seeker's coming along. Casabelle's team is on the mend as well, I think your ginger haired friends had something to do with half her team skiving off from the game." Alec glanced down at his glass, grinning. He didn't mind the match, it was fun and he was sure that the Cannons had never come so close to victory in their entire careers. "Are you sure we can't tempt you away from the Ministry?"
Alec took another thoughtful sip of his firewhiskey. "It seems a shame to let such natural talent to go to waste." He certainly had an eye for Quidditch talent, naturally. "I'd like to think I'm more tolerable to work under than the Minister." The beater tilted his head up slightly, gaze drifting off towards the window, more specifically the beautifully blue sky. "And my office is certainly better than your office." Nothing could beat making a living off of a broom stick, flying though the sky with the wind blowing through your hair. It was bliss and he loved every moment of it. And really, he lived for his fans.
One couldn't broach the subject of the current Minister without thinking deeper on the subject. Maybe it was the alcohol that loosened his tongue but Alec had strong opinions on the current political climate. "Honestly the woman seems wretched. I pity you having to work under her. Don't know how you do it." Alec's fingers played idly across the rim of his glass. "Muggle history's taught me to be very suspicious of someone who's hellbent on vilifying one part of the population." Although he had been a Slytherin in school, Alec always had a fondness for books and learning. They were his respite before he found Quidditch and history in particular had been one of his favorite subjects. "Next thing you know she'll be deputizing her own secret police."

They both drank, and Harry hummed lightly as the alcohol hit his throat, burning and warming in equal measure. He set it down, relaxing into the seat, able to go fairly boneless with ease. He could fall asleep in the strangest places, but it was an image - with things the way they were now, he had to be alert.
Not so alert, though, that he couldn't appreciate friendship, a good drink and a warm pub when he had the opportunity, and so Harry put thoughts of work out of his mind without regret and smiled across the table, mussing his hair unselfconciously. Alec probably had more fangirls and boys than Harry did, he mused abstractly, and then joined in the conversation with amusement. "Busy is a word for it," Harry agreed. "I wouldn't necessarily say more interesting. It oscillates between paperwork and action." He shrugged, grinned at the thought of Ron sabotaging the Cannons. "He did you a favour," he teased, and took another sip. "His allegiance as a fan is very great, you know." Harry raised both eyebrows at the offer and shook his head - regretfully. "It's a very tempting offer, believe me." But he had work to do. Maybe it was arrogance to think that he needed to be involved in doing it, but he couldn't just walk away as long as he felt his job did some good. And he was certainly Order for life.
Alec was quick with the compliments, and Harry laughed. "Well, thank you," he grinned. "I'm very flattered, coming from you. You're certainly in the right profession." He cocked his head, curious. "Did you ever think of doing anything else?" He couldn't deny that a Quidditch pitch was better than a desk any day, merely gave a little quirk of a smile and sipped his drink.
The lighthearted banter drifted into politics, and Harry pursed his lips thoughtfully at Alec's statement. "As long as I feel like I can work effectively and help people from where I am, I'll put up with the..." conniving harpy "...Minister." He wrinkled his nose, musing over his words. "Vigilantism only goes so far, so until the Ministry becomes totally corrupt..." Harry shrugged. As long as there were good people in the Ministry, he would stay and fight for it. There was no point in giving up ground they'd pushed to achieve years before. "Not that I'd make a good vigilante. For one thing, I think I'd need a better costume."
