Luna's response to all the terrible things going on was to throw herself into her work. 'Work' was a very broad term, she considered herself to wear many hats. First and foremost, she ran The Quibbler almost single handedly with help from Meg, her Lab Assistant who was often drafted into Non-Laboratory tasks. On top of that, Luna was a self declared scientist and werewolf advocate. To say she was a busy woman would be an understatement. Occasionally her work suffered, she became careless and made sloppy mistakes but nothing too dangerous had happened for awhile.. Until today. She was bent over her work space, tangles of blonde pulled back and pinned up away from her face. A pair of safety goggles lay discarded beside her on the table and there was a smudge of something bright green that smelled like fermenting fruit on her cheek. The mad scientist was carefully adding said bright green substance to a beaker of red orange fluid that seemed to glow. Drop by drop, Luna tediously measured out the mixture additive and then... she sneezed. It was disastrous, she squeezed the pipette's full contents into her red orange concoction during the sneeze. Her experiment became unstable and began to froth and smoke. Luna cursed under her breathe and moved to try and diffuse a bad situation before it began, reaching for another substance in a vial but it was too late. The fluid glowed brighter and then exploded. The wispy blonde was batted back by the force the explosion like a rag doll. When the dust settled several of her cauldrons had been turned over, shattered glass littered the floor and various potions, some experiments of her own creation, were splattered across various surfaces including the scientist who created them. Luna had managed to get herself propped up on the wall. She was covered in small lacerations from the broken glass and burns of various degrees, the worst being down the previously reaching arm. There were smatterings of various potions and her whole right side had started to go numb. It was likely a side effect from one of the spilled potions that were apparently effective when topically applied as well, something she made a mental note of. Luna was in high spirits despite her current predicament and calmly waited for help to arrive. It wouldn't take long, her neighbors knew her well enough by now to send for the Medi-Wizards if they heard a boom from her direction. This wasn't the first time she'd blown up her lab, after all. Soon enough there was a large form coming up the spiral stairs. Theo Ashland , former boyfriend and current... friend? She wasn't sure, had been the lucky one assigned to her. Luna blinked, quietly observing him as he took in his surroundings. "Are you the only Medi-Wizard who works there? It seems like it's always you, doesn't it?" Theo had patched her up quite a few times, usually from experiments gone awry and not..you know.. order work. She eased her head back against the wall, instructing "Please be careful, I was working with the exploding fluid from an Erumpent horn. There were a few more vials of it on the table, I don't know where they are now. You'll lose your foot if you step on one. I'd come to you but..." She attempted to lift her arm to no avail, it just flopped right back down. "I seem to be experiencing some adverse effects from... oh, something. I'm not sure what."

He had a bumpy start, to be sure, but Theo really felt like he was getting back into the swing of things at work. He didn't like getting punched in the face on his first day back - but it certainly was motivating. Theo had to earn his way back to his job. Not everyone was going to show they were upset with him as physically as Tristan did, but Theo knew they probably all felt pretty similarly. He had to work harder than ever to remind them he was good at what he did - because after almost losing it, Theo realized more than ever how much this job had grown to be a part of his identity.
So work hard he did. He picked up extra shifts and took on as many calls as he could by himself. Not that he didn't want Tristan out there with him - just, more than anyone else, he had to prove to his partner that he was actually serious about this. He'd fucked that one up royally already. So he took on the work and did it without (much) complaint. It was good for him, too, really. After so long without doing magic, and even longer without his job, his skills had admittedly grown a bit rusty. Not letting himself fall back on the assistance of anyone else was just another part of his repentance.
There was another reason Theo jumped to his feet and hastily popped off to one particular call, though. He knew that name and that address because he'd been there before, both in a work capacity and not so much. If Luna was hurt enough to require medical attention...he didn't even want to think about it. He knew it was bad, and he had to get there.
Walking into her house was sort of surreal, all the same. He really had no idea where the two of them stood now. He almost felt like he shouldn't be there without at least knocking first, but he didn't take much time to consider that as he mounted the familiar stairs. She had to be in her lab.
And...oh, yes, there she was, slumped against the wall amid absolute chaos. It took Theo a moment to spot her amid everything that she strewn and scattered and splattered about - because, unlike most people in the face of explosion and injury, Luna wasn't crying or retching or freaking out. Just lounging against the wall, watching him. She looked pretty beat up, but calm as a daisy. Theo smiled in relief, bemusement, and just a little unprofessional admiration for this complete enigma of a person. In his line of work, they weren't exactly supposed to smile at such an utter disregard for safety, but, well...Luna wouldn't even wear bloody gloves. What else could he really expect? He was just glad to find her in one piece.
"You better be glad it's always me. The others aren't nearly as enthusiastic after your second or third repeated explosion," he teased, shaking his head and continuing a closer assessment of her injuries. He was just about to take a step over to her when she warned him to be careful. From Luna Lovegood, Theo now took that warning very, very seriously. He stopped in his tracks and listened to what she said, nodding and taking a deep breath before making his way very, very carefully toward her, eyes on the floor. In terms of gentle steps, Theo was less a ballerina and more of an elephant in a tutu, but he eventually made it with both of his feet still firmly attached.
Once he was there, Theo crouched down next to Luna and picked up the arm that was looking rather floppy. He wanted a closer look at her other injuries as well, the cuts and burns. Those were potentially an easy fix, depending on what caused them; loss of feeling in a limb, not so much. "Is this the only thing you can't feel?" He asked, wiggling her arm, before settling it in her lap. He pulled his wand from his back pocket and held it over her thoughtfully. "I'm going to try cleaning some of this stuff off of you first, to mitigate anymore damage. Let me know if it starts to burn or sting." If he didn't know the substance, he couldn't know how it would react to magic, but the cleansing charm he began casting over Luna was usually safe enough.

Luna always admired Theo's skills as a Medi-Wizard. He had some sort of innate talent for it and even if they weren't friends she was glad he was the one who came to her aide. The witch was cool as a cucumber even as some of her skin had managed to burn off or been eaten away by the random liquids and goo that the explosion had managed to make out of her experiments. If anything, Luna was irritated her hard work was interrupted by something as inconvenient as an explosion. Her notes may or may not have been ruined but all the simmering cauldrons had been overturned and blown to bits, spilling weeks of work across her floor. "Oh, I'm not disappointed that it's you." she said serenely as if they were having the conversation over tea and not in the ruins of her laboratory. "But they shouldn't mind, really, progress doesn't come without it's setbacks."
Some of the mixtures had already begun to dissolve through the flooring of her lab and overturned book shelves and splintered furniture made it quite an obstacle course. Watching the large man wobble his way across the room and over to her coaxed an amused smile on to her face. It was almost like she wasn't injured at all. Mind over matter, or something. "That's the spirit. You made it all the way over with all your limbs intact. I think you could grow your own foot back, but it might complicate things for me a bit, wouldn't it?" Her gaze drifted off thoughtfully as she considered the scenario. "I think I would be more concerned about a chain reaction than a loss of limb. I'm surprised the explosion was so small, to be honest. I was working with several highly volatile substances." As if on cue there was a loud pop in the far corner of the room, scattering some debris with a puff of purple smoke.
Thankfully none of the sticky, goopy mess seemed to react negatively to the cleansing charm. Luna hardly noticed it at all, actually, and busied herself by examining the singed ends of her hair with her moveable hand. "Nothing stings. I'm a bit uncomfortable but I've been in worse condition before." Usually her own doing. "My mother died in an explosion long ago, did you know? One would think that might deter me from my work, but my experiments are very important. I just published a study on alternative uses to concentrated gnome saliva. I can have my lab restored in a few days." When Luna realized she was doing all the talking she stopped and turned her attention to Theo. "And how are you? You seem to be recovering from your own ordeal very well."

Well, that was good. Disappointed was exactly the way Theo had come to expect Luna to feel about him, he realized as he waltzed across her ruined lab. Disappointed in the way he treated her and in the way he lied to her, disappointed that he couldn't even save himself and had to have other people do it. But she wasn't disappointed that he was here, and that made Theo probably happier than it should have. If he was going to get back on his feet at all with his job, he could definitely use more patients like Luna. Well - not that he wanted Luna to need his assistance. But if she was going to need it regardless, it was nice to be trusted. "I think we all just prefer if those setbacks don't blow you to bits, is all." He even felt happy enough to tease her.
Luna, too, was even happy - or something, because she was smiling at him as he came across the room. Probably because he looked like a great big buffoon. He bowed grandly at her congratulations for making it across the obstacle course her lab had become before he crouched down at her side. "You're right. Then'd we both be heel-less," he grinned. Ha ha, Healing puns. Theo was highly amused with his own cleverness, but Luna brought his head back to Earth with a swiftness. Chain reactions...bigger explosions...volatile substances. Right. His face fell a bit and he scooted a little closer to the blonde - the less space they took up, the less they could disturb something volatile and disturbed. He jumped at a loud noise coming from the corner of the lab and tried to play it off as a shrug. "And not wearing your gloves, I bet. Do we need to call on someone to come clean all this up?" His tone was genuine, not accusatory. Who knew what that was dripping from the walls, Theo just knew he didn't want to touch it.
Whatever was all over Luna didn't seem to be hurting her too bad, anyway, besides the numbness. Theo worked diligently to clean her up, not even bothering to be surprised when she said she'd had it worse. Of course she had. He did raise an eyebrow, though, at the information about her mother. He was sure he knew the woman was dead, people with no mums tended to find that information out about one another some way or another, he found - but he wasn't sure they had ever really talked about how. And that 'how' really did make this whole situation a bit more surprising to Theo. Wasn't Luna scared, to end up just like her mother?
Of course not. He was silly to ever think it. A small look of appreciation spread over Theo's features as Luna answered his question without his asking. Nothing could hold that woman's curiosity back. "I know your experiments are very important, Luna. But you're very important to a lot of people, too. Sure you can restore a lab but you can't always restore a person." His chiding was very gentle, just a reminder more than an admonishment of any kind. "Gonna start mending some of these cuts now, okay?" Theo got the goop off her the best he could and started waving his wand over the bigger cuts down Luna's arm, concentrating on his work but glancing up when she asked after him. He gave her a small smile. "I'm okay. I'm glad to be back at work." He hesitated, looking back at the woman's arm as he worked and chewing on his bottom lip. How much did Luna really care? She helped save his life after everything he'd done, and she was being amicable enough now...but was she really asking as a friend? "Just hoping things go back to normal soon," he tried, shrugging.
