Things were going splendidly for Mali. She was getting the hang of things at work again, Theo was as warm and snuggly as ever, and Eoin's first batch of contraband wolfsbane seemed to have worked flawlessly. It was all almost too good to last, and it only took one glance of long, greasy hair to send everything toppling over and the witch fleeing like a hunted rabbit. There was no Death Eater, the man she spotted skulking around was some muggle with unfortunate grooming habits and the same long hair waiting for a cab, but it was too late. Fear prickled up Mali's spine, setting every nerve on edge. Suddenly she saw danger everywhere, every person crowded on the busy London street could be just looking for the right opportunity to whisk her away to die in an abandon farmhouse. And Mali ran. She stumbled over her own two feet in her need to get away, to get to safety and into an alley to spin back on her heel and disappear with a loud crack. It wasn't terribly wise, she didn't apparate well under the best circumstances and Mali made what could prove to be a fatal mistake mid-twist. The original destination was The Homestead, where Theo would almost undoubtedly be to soothe away her anxiety with sweet kisses and warm smiles but at the last moment she decided to find Mister Lupin instead. If she had to explain it she would try and convince you that it was because she didn't want to burden the equally traumatized Theo with her silly fears but there was something more. Something about the Order member drew her to him and the almost magnetic pull was especially strong when she was scared. She materialized on his doorstep with a squeal of pain. Something was wrong, there was a tearing sensation above her hip and something warm and wet was quickly soaking through her shirt. Mali managed to splinch herself in her haste and indecision, missing several strips of flesh along her right side. The wounds were bleeding profusely and in a sick twist of fate, it was her knocking on someone's door while gushing blood. Her knocks left a smear of blood on the wood and she leaned against the door frame, hands pressed against the wound and face screwed up in an effort not to cry. Mali's pain tolerance was low and it didn't matter how many times she managed to flub it up, splinching hurt. When the door opened the bleeding witch already felt a bit unsteady on her feet. She clutched her side, blood seeping through her fingers and staining the ground. It was terrible to throw this at Mister Lupin's feet considering the full moon had only just passed days ago and he likely wasn't feeling a hundred percent but she was in no condition to attempt to make it to St. Mungo's. "I got splinched." she explained her sudden blood letting with a grimace before peeling her fingers away and pulling up her shirt to show the wounds. "Can you help me mend it? Before I pass out." Mali was already getting pale, as if to emphasize her point. ___________________ Remus Lupin

Remus found his day suddenly upended, standing by his fireplace as the last green flames of Floo powder petered out. Grandma had just popped in for a surprise visit and had whisked the twins off to a surprise Christmas parade. Remus was always happy to oblige Andromeda her grandchildren, he knew the woman was just as hurting and lonely as he and Teddy and Lily James were truly a cure-all...but Remus hadn't expected to be alone today. He'd expected a day of catching up on work with his children cajoling about the house, filling it with noise. It was too empty otherwise. Remus wasn't much for Christmas parades and he really did need to work, but he wasn't at all for an empty house.
This conundrum left him staring dumbly into the dying pits of his fireplace for some time, struck and unsure what to do with himself. A strange knock at his door eventually roused him out of this stupor, and Remus went to the entryway with a distracted, aloof air about him.
That all caught fire as soon as he opened the door. Reality rushed back with a vengeance at the sight of Mali bleeding all over his doorstep, and it smacked into Remus with a force that knocked all his breath out. No, no, not again. Remus blinked hard at the woozy colors filling up his vision and grabbed at Mali as she spoke, urging her inside but mostly just keeping her steady. No attack, just a splinching, but there was so much blood. "You're okay," Remus reassured her, and himself, wrapping a firm arm around her shoulders and taking baby steps. The living room was far enough. Remus laid Mali on a couch and pushed her shirt away before kneeling next to her, eye level with her wounds.
He rolled his sleeves up and waved a hand through the air, summoning his first aid kit from the cellar while pressing down on Mali's side with his other hand. Remus was definitely no stranger to having to patch himself up - but that didn't mean he'd ever gotten very good at it. His type of injury would scar regardless, so he'd never really bothered with the fine tuning of his healing skills. Just patch one up and on to the next, over and over again. He didn't want to leave Mali with such ugly scars, and he wasn't even sure his usual go-to would work here. There was a lot of blood. "Will Episkey work? Will it hurt you?" Remus nervously swirled his fingers over the wounds, clearing away the blood even as it filled right back up. He applied more pressure, using rags he pulled from the first aid kit that settled at his knees.

Mister Lupin seemed to be in some sort of shock or horror, it was enough to kick her own healer instincts into gear. "It's alright." she soothed, clutching her side as it bled through fabric and fingers. "It's okay, it's just a splinching." 'Just A Splinching' was quickly working it's way towards unconsciousness. Even though anxiety and alarms were sounding through Mali's own system she want to reach out through all of it and take Mister Lupin's hand in her own so she could lead him out of his panic but she didn't dare let go of her wound. In reality her grasp did little but in her mind it's what stood between her and certain death.
The older man worked through it on his own and his arm around her felt secure, protective like Mister Lupin would chase away death himself if he came to call. He even reassured her that she was okay, in which she responded with a slightly hazy "I know I am." because Mali always knew that she was okay when Mister Lupin was involved. He'd proven before that he wouldn't let anything bad happen to her, even if it was at her own hand. Mister Lupin's couch was a touch too comfortable and Mali was quickly growing tired. Bleeding was hard work, her heart was sprinting in her chest, urged on by murmurs of panic from the more logical part of her brain. The flow of blood was steady and unrelenting.
Her head felt heavy instead of light, like it might want to sink into the couch cushion and stay there. Maybe drift off a bit. A sharp discomfort tore right through that idea and Mali cried out under the pressure of Remus' hand. The wounded witch bit down hard on her lower lip to quiet herself down. The pain sharpened the hazy lethargy that had started to set in, allowing her to tune into Mister Lupin's question. "No, you should---" she cut off mid sentence. Even though her slightly disoriented state, calling the Medi-Wizards was a bad idea. If Theo found out.. she couldn't put her finger on why, but thinking about it felt uncomfortable. Mali squeaked as he applied a deeper pressure, managing to instruct "Vulnera Sanentur" in a voice strained with the effort to resist crying out again. It was a powerful but complicated spell, not commonly known outside of the healing community. It was a finnicky charm, had to be cast exactly right but if anyone could get it, Mister Lupin could. He was the most powerful wizard she knew. "Three times."

Mali's words threw themselves against the panic that enclosed Remus like walls, creating little hairline fractures of bright light. Blinding, but worlds better than the blind darkness. It was alright and it was okay, she said. Just a splinching. Remus had to force himself to move, one step at a time. Grab Mali before she fell down, set her down somewhere before they both fell. He put her on the couch and that was an immense relief in itself, she wasn't going to fall. Remus' head was clearing up a bit, letting him think.
The blood. It was the brightest, most immediate thing in the room. He had to stop the blood. When he pressed against Mali's side, she cried out and Remus winced, relieving some of the pressure. "I'm so sorry," he shook his head, switching over to clearing the blood away for a moment to give her a break. He was a bit worried she wouldn't be able to answer him anymore and he'd have to go on luck alone. She began to speak, but she paused, and Remus looked up sharply at her face. "Should what? Mali." Eyes still open, lips still struggling to move. She actually had a tiny bit more color in her face than when she had been standing up; even if it hurt her, Remus knew it would help, so he went back to putting pressure on her wounds as she struggled an answer out to him.
Vulnera Sanentur. Thanks solely to a healthy reading habit, Remus knew of the spell - but he couldn't have ever practiced it more than a handful of times. Again, there had never been any point. His wounds were plenty, but usually jagged and shallow, not deep enough to need something so complicated. "Okay," he nodded, trying to psyche himself up. "I know that one."
He would need his wand, though. His wandless magic was pretty well refined at this point in his life, but for something like this, he needed the precision of a wand. The question, though - where the heck was it? Remus didn't keep up with it like he should have, at least not when he was sitting around at home. What could be possibly need it for? Ha.
"Wand...wand...wand," he muttered to himself, waving his hand around the room, hoping a silent summoning spell would eventually pick up the object. He waved all the way around until he was back pointing at the couch - wherein his wand came floating up out of the couch cushions by Mali's head. Remus grabbed the wand and got a good grip on it before straightening up and pulling in close to Mali's wounds. Slowly, very slowly, he worked his way through the three iterations of the spell, gaze ever flickering between the wounds and the girl's face.

The fact that it was just a splinching seemed to help him work through his panic. Maybe it was her imagination, but he seemed to relax a little bit more as they worked their way through the living room (which was actually lovely, it was a shame she was bleeding all over it) and she was glad for that, happy that she could take a little bit of the worry away. It was a pretty serious splinching, and Mali was just barely on her feet when they finally made it to the couch. Her knees were going weak and her head felt impossibly light but she was okay because Mister Lupin had her. They made it, and she bled all over the couch like she did the rest of the living room.
The pressure--it hurt. As a Healer, Mali knew it was the best course of action and all he could do for the time being and she tried to subdue her reaction. She bit down hard on her lower lip, fingers digging into the couch cushion when he pressed on the wound. She managed a murmur of "Nothing" when he questioned her. Nothing. They couldn't call for Medi-Wizards or witches. They were all gossips and it would surely work it's way back to Theo and she would have to explain how she splinched herself so bad. Her apparition was sloppy at best, but normally she'd only splinch off something minor. A few strands of hair, some finger nails, occasionally a finger (she no longer had the fingers she'd been born with, after all.) but nothing that required such immediate attention. Her wounds were deep and her racing heart was pumping blood out far too fast.
Her skin was cool and pale and everything felt impossibly heavy and slow. Even her words felt clumsy on her tongue as she instructed Mister Lupin, telling him which spell to use. It was one she used so often, it only seemed natural and she gave no thought to how complicated it might be or if he could even perform it wandless. She was somewhere between asleep and awake, drifting between the two with eyes growing too heavy to keep open when she vaguely registered something floating by her head. The sensation of Remus' wand tip tracing along her wounds brought her back just enough, eyes snapping open. She let him work with little more than a single pained squeak. Mali managed to stay mostly awake. Her eyes fluttered occasionally but she stayed with him, refusing to leave him alone to fix her injuries . The bleeding slowed and the raw, sharp feeling eased as the edges of her wounds pulled together under Mister Lupin's wand.
"You're doing great." Mali sounded tired and a little distant like she was drifting off but she managed to reach out a shaky but encouraging hand to rest on his arm. She closed her eyes again, words lethargic and running together "practically a healer."

Mali looked to be in a lot of pain, and as much as he hated it, Remus knew it was probably the only thing keeping her awake. She alternated between a look of stifled anguish and one of her eyes being half-shut. He gave her a little nudge every time he thought she might slip away. He wanted to talk to her, mindless chatter just to keep her brain going, but he had to concentrate on the spell. Remus was a pretty accomplished multitasker, but not with things he was so unfamiliar with. Little by little, the wounds along Mali's side stopped bleeding and began to knit together, leaving raw pink lines across her olive skin. When Remus went to wipe away some of the blood surrounding the area that had already dried, she was still cool to the touch. Remus reached over her and tugged a blanket off the back of the couch, draping it over her.
Her hand on his arm was the lightest touch in the world. When Remus looked back up at Mali's face, her eyes were all the way closed. "Mali. Do you think it's okay for you to rest now? The bleeding stopped. I have blood replenishing potion, I think you should take it." The girl had lost a lot of blood. Remus knew very well the feeling of just wanting to sleep after such an ordeal, but he honestly didn't know how safe that was. How much blood was too much blood? He made a lot of noise rummaging around in his first aid kit, pulling out a vial and uncorking it with one hand while he reached behind Mali's head and lifted it with his other. "Will you drink this? Please? You're making me nervous."
