This was not a conversation that she was looking forward to having, but it was necessary. They had a few months of successful potions under their belt and it was time to expand their mission beyond just Remus. There were rumors floating around the Creature Task Force that she picked up while pretending to look busy with paperwork. No one wanted to talk if they thought you were listening but if you looked like you were absorbed in some mindless task like collating a thick stack of boring forms. She listened and filed away what she could use. According to two enforcers who were bullshitting about work, The Three Broomsticks was a hotbed of werewolf activity.
Meg was the key to finding more people to help. She worked at The Three Broomsticks and wasn't a werewolf (Theo would have told her if she was) but was apparently connected to at least one or two, if the rumor was right. There was one small problem, Meg hated her. Okay, maybe not hate but she strongly disliked her, at the very least and this wasn't going to endear her any further. Meg saw her as trouble for Theo and what she was trying to do was bending the law, at the very least, if not breaking it. It would only spell trouble for her and Theo if it was found out and that was sure to ruffle Meg's feathers. Mali had a plan, though. She learned a lot of valuable lessons from Mister Lupin, but the most important one was that chocolate could make everything better.
So, she was armed with a basket of fudge from Hogsmeade, decorated with a blue bow. Meg's eyes made her associate blue with the bartender and she hoped that she at least like the color. With her peace offering in hand, she popped off to The Homestead. The timing was important, Theo and the others couldn't be home, she needed Meg alone to really talk to her. She encouraged Theo to go spend some quality time with his family. A 'boys day out' sort've thing, try to reforge the bonds that had been strained by their legal troubles. Her heart was racing but she managed to knock and wait without fleeing. She brandished her gift basket like a shield the moment Meg opened the door, cutting off any protest of 'Theo isn't here.' "I know where Theo is, I'm his girlfriend. This is for you, it's fudge. Theo said you like sweets. We need to talk, it's about The Three Broomstick's Stray Dog problem. May I come in?"

It was rare for Meg to get the house completely to herself. If there were no brothers or dads around, there were usually cousins or at least a friend or two. Not today - because something even rarer happened that was leaving Meg slightly perplexed as she sauntered about her empty home. Theo - yes, that Theo - proposed a surprise 'boy's day out' that morning for Jon and Dad; and would you believe it, the whole crew actually went through with it? Weird, right? Theo hardly ever had ideas like that, much less ones both their brother and father would agree to.
But lo and behold, they were gone. Meg wasn't exactly disappointed about it, either. When they first left, she did feel a bit stiffed at being left out; but that feeling was instantly soothed by the glory of an empty house all to herself. She could do anything she wanted! Normally, Meg spent her days off outside in the gardens, but she absolutely had to take advantage of this rare opportunity. It was too bloody cold outside, anyway. Meg built a fire in the hearth, donned her comfiest sweatpants and oldest t-shirt, and set to work to make the best-ever Meg's Day In.
She was already halfway through a bottle of wine - and the whole way through a carton of ice cream - when she heard a knock above the sound of the music coming from the radio. Meg climbed down from the couch she was currently dancing on and went to the door. It couldn't be the boys - they wouldn't be back so soon, and besides, this was their house too. They had keys. Meg had surprisingly not invited anyone over, either, so she had no idea who was on the other side of the door. Swear to Merlin, if it was some straggling reporter...
Meg swung the door open and was greeted with a gift basket to the face. And a girl behind it, one that managed to knock the lazy smile right off Meg's lips. The chocolate was tempting...but having to talk to Mali to get it? Meg wasn't sure it was worth it. Meg had nothing but sour opinions of the girl - helped not at all by the way she was talking to her right now. The girl really had some nerve, didn't she? And an attitude to rival Meg's own...Meg crossed her arms over his chest and leaned in the doorway, making it very clear the chances Mali had of getting across the threshold.
And then the girl went and said something so utterly strange, Meg forgot all about her anger. Stray dog problem? Meg furrowed her eyebrows together, dropping her arms. "No. What are you talking about?" Stray dogs...oh. OH. Could she mean...? Surely not. Surely not. Meg had been so, so careful. More careful with that information than she had ever been with anything else. Oh, Merlin. "Mali, what are you talking about?" Her tone was completely different this time, careful and nervous all in one. She stepped out of the door frame and leaned back against the door, inviting Mali inside without having to say it.

Things weren't going well for Mali, evidenced by the way that Meg leaned against the door frame. It was essentially blocking her out but she couldn't get up. This was too important, the whole 'mission' had cost her too much to just shrug her shoulders and give up. No, she couldn't come in. Meg even said it, with confusion written across the blonde's face. Normally this would provoke a response along the lines of her heart dropping into her stomach or pangs of discomfort in her chest but instead she just got annoyed. Mali rolled her eyes, more at herself than at Meg. She couldn't come out and say it plainly, Mister Lupin's paranoia over the post had began to seep in. They were watching The Three Broomsticks, there was nothing to say they weren't watching the people who worked there. The witch glanced over her shoulder and up the country lane, half expecting to see the ripple of an invisibility cloak. There wasn't really anything she put past the Ministry anymore.
When she looked back to Meg, she was chewing on her lower lip. Her attitude eased and her face softened. "You know, the stray dogs that come poking around at night..." Please, don't make me say it. Something must've clicked for Meg because her demeanor changed from confused to cautious, prompting her to step aside. Mali hurried inside the moment Meg was out of the door way, setting the basket on the nearest hard surface and whipping around to face her.
This was no easy conversation and no matter how many different ways she recited it in her head, it never went well. Her insides squirmed uncomfortably now that she had Meg's attention. It made her feel sick, her own face dropping. "I know--" she felt overwhelmed and a little bit dizzy. Mali was someone who wanted to be liked, who was bothered when people didn't like her. Meg didn't like her, but there was nothing personally she'd done to the woman. One would think that the youngest Ashland would've been thankful for what she'd done for Theo. Who knows what would've happened if Mali hadn't stumbled across the scene? If she hadn't fought for the patients or been there to pick Theo up when he fell to pieces after? But no, Meg apparently saw her as trouble and what she was about to say wasn't going to improve that impression.
This was all trouble, and she was pulling Theo into it headlong with her. "I---need to sit down." Dizzy and nauseated, Mali shook her head and showed herself into the living room and onto the couch. The house was familiar to her anyway, she'd been here so many times with Theo. When Meg joined her, Mali's elbows rested on her knees and her head was in her hands. She could do this, it was to help others. Meg might even be reasonable if she cared for whoever she was helping to hide. "I know there are werewolves at The Three Broomsticks." The Enforcers weren't dumb. If there was that many rumors floating around about the pub, there had to be some truth to it. "It's all the Enforcers talk about anymore. They're going to close in on it. I want to help them, but I need you to put me in contact with them."

Mali was lucky - they both were lucky, honestly - that Meg's panic kicked in right around the time the younger girl rolled her eyes. That was one thing Meg had a hard time letting go in any situation, it just irked the hell out of her (not to say that she wasn't guilty of it, too). This time, though, she barely saw it - her vision flicking dark for a moment as the realization of what Mali might be here for dawned on her. Oh, Merlin.
When Meg focused back on Mali's face, almost all of that attitude was gone. The stray dogs that came poking around at night...Meg was still confused, not totally convinced this was happening (mostly just not wanting to believe it was happening), but she felt deeply unsettled by Mali's vagueness. Why was she looking around so suspiciously, moving around so fast? It made Meg very, very nervous. She didn't want to let Mali inside but she kind of felt she had no choice. Meg had no problem telling the folks from the Ministry to sod off when they came around (to her workplace, and yes, to her home...and sometimes, finding her when she was out and about). But this was different, wasn't it? She knew what the Ministry wanted. She had no idea what Mali's intentions were.
Mali didn't really seem like she wanted to be inside the house either, once she got there. She started acting very strangely, hurrying herself over to one of the couches and hiding in her hands. "What?" Meg watched her from the door, that Ashland brand of stubbornness rooting her to the spot, but her own Meg-brand of concern and compassion floating up the features of her face. "Are you okay?" Uncomfortably, she turned to the basket and poked around in it while Mali tried to speak, starting and stopping several times. Meg wasn't going to do it, start this conversation. She couldn't. They could sit here awkwardly avoiding each other until Theo got home for all she cared.
But finally, the girl said it. Came right out and said it. Meg actually flinched at the word, accidentally knocking the basket to the floor in her sudden movement. Meg dropped to her knees while Mali was still speaking, busying herself with cleaning up the mess. Merlin's frigging beard - it was actually happening. Meg and the others knew what they were up against; it was through sheer force of will alone that it hadn't actually happened yet. They fought tooth and nail to keep the place safe - and Mali was telling her it was all for naught.
That made Meg angry. This was bullshit. She climbed back to her feet, hastily putting the basket back where it was and nearly knocking it back down to the floor again with her force. Her stalked to the end of the couch Mali was sitting on and crossed her arms back over her chest, glaring down at the girl. "Do you not think that's what I want, too? To help them? I've done everything to help those people. Why would I possibly trust you?"

The sound of the basket hitting the floor made Mali jump and her heart skip several beats. Loud noises brought her back to several places, The Eye and The Apothecary being the two main ones. Her throat felt suddenly tight and her words got caught up in there for a moment before she could push. The Hufflepuff in her urged her to her feet with the intention of helping Meg clean up the mess but after swaying from foot to foot for a thoughtful moment, Mali sat back down. Meg didn't like her and she didn't necessarily want to get closer to the woman while the blonde was having her own crisis. A hand went to her neck, rubbing at it without thought. It was an idle tick now, occasionally a stress tick. There was no trace of the Death Eater's hands on her neck, not a single bruise or mark but his grimy putrid fingers felt like they were always resting there, unshakable and waiting for the perfect chance to finish squeezing the life out of her.
When Meg made it back to her feet she was down right scary. The blonde was obviously angry and Mali sat up, shifting uncomfortably on the couch as the woman approached. Her body language half mirrored the older woman's and she crossed her arms over her own chest, but her shoulders were slumped and she drew inward, making her look even smaller than she was. "Meg..." Theo was a very punchy person, Meg might be too. She eyed the woman's crossed arms apprehensively and was glad that they had the length of the couch still between them. When she spoke, Mali felt a weird mix of anger and compassion.
The witch stood, drawing herself up to full height. Even the shortest Ashland still dwarfed her, but standing offered a minuscule confidence boost. She opened her own mouth, unsure if her tone was going to come out angry and tasting bitter. "Because Theo trusts me." Surprisingly, her voice was very gentle. She understood the frustration Meg was facing and it washed away any trace of temper. She took a cautious step forward, posture relaxing into something friendlier. Her arms uncrossed, hanging by her side. "Betraying you would hurt him, and I wouldn't do that to him. I love him." Stress intensified the feeling of invisible hands around her throat and she moved to rub away the phantom grip on her throat again. "I don't think you'll believe me, but what happened---I took care of him the best I could, but we were both terrified. Running seemed like a good idea, then talking felt like a good idea. It all worked out, didn't it?" There was no use trying to recruit Meg to help her in her werewolf crusade with such a large and uncomfortable thing hanging inbetween them, there was no better time to clear the air.

Mali almost seemed like she was afraid of Meg, the way she curled in on herself and spoke what almost sounded like a warning. Meg didn't really like that all too much. She didn't want the girl to be afraid of her, just to...well, in all honesty, Meg didn't know what she really wanted from Mali. Maybe just for the girl to leave her alone - but that obviously wasn't going to happen. Mali was in her life now. First with her brother, and now she wanted Meg's werewolves too. Rationally, Meg knew she could probably use the help. But she was very fiercely protective over the people she cared about, and if anything at all threatened them - even if it was just a girl she was unsure about it - it kicked her stubbornness into overdrive. Still, she took a step back from the couch at the concerned tone in Mali's voice.
Maybe the girl wasn't scared after all, though. Soon Mali was on her feet too, sending Meg's eyebrows up into her hairline in surprise at the boldness - but when she spoke, it was with surprising gentleness. Not yelling, but rather a completely rational rationale - one that Meg, in her duty as a little sister, had to scoff at. It was her turn to roll her eyes now. "Right, because I follow bloody Theo as my moral guidepost." Not all of Theo's decisions were bad, but Theo did make a lot of bad decisions. He probably put his trust in all sorts of unsavory people.
Mali went on, coming toward Meg, her words forcing Meg to take another step back just as much as her presence. This was almost worse than Mali being a brat - she was being logical and it was infuriating. She loved Theo - ugh - and of course Meg could understand that. She wasn't heartless, just stubborn. Unwilling to admit when she was in the wrong. Mali explained herself further and further and it just got worse for Meg. She was drawn in on herself now, dwarfing her tall frame in a sea of lanky arms and elbows. "I dunno if you could really call what's happened 'worked out'," Meg mumbled, shrugging, but she didn't even really believe herself right as the words came out of her mouth. It had worked out. Theo was no longer under house arrest nor was he in jail...or dead...and Meg supposed the girl standing in front of her had something to do with that. "I don't know you. Theo does, but I don't. The one thing I do know about you is honestly not the best first impression, sorry. I might get over that, with time. But not right now. These people are really important to me - I would hardly trust them with my own brother, much less you."

Mali wasn't really sure that she was afraid of Meg. Would Meg hit her? That was an unknown. Theo was very prone to physical altercations, even with friends (looking at you, Tristan.) and the siblings were very alike. The tense feeling winding up her spine managed to relax a bit when Meg moved back, allowing her to breathe a little easier in the space. Mali hesitated on her feet when Meg raised her eyebrows but then she squared her shoulders. On some level, the hesitation and protectiveness made sense but Meg was standing in the way of her mission, stalling the redemption that she so desperately needed.
A frown weighed down her normally bright features when Meg spoke about Theo. Mali was no expert on siblings, being an only child herself, but she always thought that they had a close bond. Theo certainly seemed to be close to his sister, remember the big bear hug? And then Meg went there... she didn't know if this was worked out? Mali propped a hand up on her hip, making a show of her head swiveling this way and that to check out her surroundings. "This doesn't look like Azkaban. I'd call it worked out." The witch was cycling through several emotions, Meg always brought out the worst in her. When the blonde laid it all out on the table it pushed her from sass to defensive and maybe a little irritated.
She recrossed her arms, though not in a way that folded her up or made her small. She had an advantage here.. Facts. "You've never tried to get to know me, that's hardly fair." Mali was all about fairness, it was her inner Hufflepuff. One didn't lose that when they graduated. Hopefully some of that meant something to Meg, she'd been a badger afterall. And then she disparaged Theo some more and Mali furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Theo thinks so highly of you." They didn't talk about Meg much, but nothing Theo'd said about her had been bad. "How is it that I can believe in him more than his own flesh and blood? That doesn't seem right. Your lack of faith in him is sad, he's really an amazing person." Enough about that, Mali closed her eyes for a moment, bracing herself. It was time for her to lay it all out, tell Meg all of her secrets. It could work against her, to be tangled up in something that could potentially go very wrong while she led Theo into the thick of it. The guilt sometimes caught her by surprise, involving Theo. "Besides..." She started carefully, looking Meg right in the eye. "We have resources. My roommate and I are brewing Wolfsbane. It's only going to get harder and harder to get. We're not just brewing it, we're improving it. We're making it better, easier to take and more effective at mitigating the worst of the transformation symptoms. I can cover it all up on the registry. I've been fudging it for weeks. Betraying them would assure that Eoin, Theo and I all go to jail."
She shifted uncomfortably, uncrossing and recrossing her arms. In a way, this was her own little brand of The Order. A network of people who were pushing back against tyranny and risking a lot to do it. "You can help me. You can tell the Minister and all of her precious enforcers to sod off, all while helping your werewolves get the potion that they need."

"Whatever," Meg mumbled. She folded in on herself, too, and as Mali puffed up their size difference was dramatically reduced. Mali was right. It was worked out. But Meg did not appreciate the attitude. "It's worked out, so we just go back and pretend like it never happened, then?" Meg would like that, actually. The whole ordeal had put a strain on her relationship with her brother that was proving hard to bounce back from. Theo had done a lot of messy things, and Meg always forgave him - and honestly, vice versa was just as true - but this was a big one. Pretending like it never happened would be ideal; but every time Mali came bounding into the picture, Meg knew forgetting would be impossible. She felt it deep in her bones.
"Why would I?" Meg was mostly mumbling now. The word 'fair' struck a nerve in her poor little Hufflepuff heart. Meg liked for things to be fair, too. She demanded it, most times. And it wasn't fair to expect Mali to grovel at her feet if Meg couldn't even bother to stand there for her. It wasn't fair to expect Mali to put in all the work to fix this relationship while Meg did nothing. Meg saw that now. But dammit, the attitude. And the insinuation. Mali sounded like she knew everything about Meg and Meg's life and Meg's relationships - she didn't know anything! Meg dropped her arms and her hands balled up into fists at her sides. She glared down her nose at Mali. "Excuse you," she spat. "You don't know anything about the kind of relationship I have with my brother. You don't know me, you don't know what I do for him. I would do anything for Theo, but if you would put your blind trust in everything he does, you obviously don't know him, either. That, or you're thick."
Meg huffed and turned her back on Mali. She wanted her to go away, and she didn't want the girl to see how red her face had gotten, how much she'd gotten to her. How dare she. Maybe Meg was a little tough on Theo but dammit, someone had to be. That didn't mean she didn't love him. Who the hell was Mali to think she had a place in that?
The same girl who thought she had a place in the lives of Meg's werewolf coworkers - that's who. Meg whipped around when it was clear Mali wasn't leaving and she started talking again, and the girl was looking her right in the eye. Meg glared back. It took her a while to process all that Mali was saying, and her glare didn't go away. Wolfsbane? They were making wolfsbane? How? The way her coworkers made it sound, it was stupidly complex and stupidly expensive. Meg's go-to plan, when it came to that, was to just figure out a way to steal it off the shelves of the apothecary...
"Isn't that illegal?" She didn't sound so accusatory or bitter anymore. Just...it was illegal. That new legislation came out about it being regulated now, isn't that what that meant? It was illegal to brew; just as it was illegal to steal. Mali was fudging records, too. And she wanted Meg to join in their little band of wolfsbane bandits - which Meg absolutely, completely, totally wanted to do.
If it had been anyone else on Earth asking her.
"How long do you suppose you're going to get away with that?" Meg asked. She looked away from Mali now, plucking at a loose thread from the arm of the couch. "That's too risky. I think there's a reason they asked me. Just me. It's too dangerous to have a lot of people involved. I don't need any help."

Whatever? It prompted a huff from Mali, who normally had patience coming out of her ears but couldn't muster an ounce of it up for the blonde. "That's so very mature of you." Neither one of them were the epitome of adulthood here. They were all eye rolls and dismissive 'whatevers' and pouty huffs. Both were well versed in the art of sass and it was bleeding into Mali's blood, coloring every word spoken. Her own attitude abruptly changed at Meg's suggestion. "No.. No. Absolutely not." Maybe Meg could pretend, but Mali would never be able to. She was very serious now and very very somber. A frown weighed down her features. "That's an insult to the memory of Mister Longbottom and Mister Fischer. No one wants to be forgotten when they're gone." Besides, too much had changed. It created a debt that could never be repaid and left marks on her soul that could never be fully mended.
Mali's sass wasn't all gone. She propped a hand up on her hip, tilted her head and knit her eyebrows. "Sorry? What are you mumbling?" Apparently, the sass wasn't gone for Meg either, especially when she hit on a nerve. The change in the blonde was so abrupt and startling that she took a foot sliding step back and eyed the balled up fists. While Mali didn't want to get punched today, she couldn't just let the words go unchallenged. "Obviously you won't, you're insistent that I've got to be your enemy when it would be so much better for him if we could get along. And I'm not thick. I know him and trust him with my life, because he's proven himself worthy of that trust. You won't see it because seeing it means you'd have to admit that you've been a brat and you're too bloody stubborn for that." As much as she adored Theo, his stubbornness was one of his more frustrating traits and it was one that apparently ran in the family. Each one seemed progressively more stubborn than the last and as youngest Meg must've been the most stubborn of them all.
Meg turned away and there was a twinge of guilt in the pit of Mali's stomach. She didn't want to upset Meg, she just wanted to help the werewolves. She nearly opened her mouth to apologize but thought the better of it, the last thing one wanted to give a stubborn mule was any shred of validation. When she turned back around suddenly, Mali flinched but held her ground. It wasn't so much that she was afraid of Meg as a person, she just knew how prone to getting punchy Theo was and Mali wasn't a fighter. The blonde must've calmed down because her tone was more even, less angry. "Sometimes morality and legality don't see eye to eye." she said, lifting her chin a bit to boost her own confidence. Her answer seemed very... wise.. if she did say so herself and she gave herself a mental pat on the back for it. "Besides, I'm pretty sure failing to report unregistered werewolves is illegal now, too."
The question was a hard one, a question that she often fretted over herself. It was like a house of cards, one wrong move, one strong wind and the whole thing would topple over and everyone was going down. She bit on her lower lip and shrugged her shoulders. "Dunno, s'long as we can, I guess." Mali was certainly very resourceful when things felt important. Her position at the Ministry was a very helpful tool in the grand scheme of things. "You don't need any help?" Mali asked, folding her arms over her chest. She shifted her weight back onto one foot giving her the look of an irritated teenager who hasn't gotten her way. "Right... So, you're going to brew it yourself then? Got yourself a potioneer in your pocket? Stacks of galleons burning a hole in your vault at Gringotts?"

Meg wasn't interested in being mature, or serious, or anything besides alone right now. She shrugged off Mali's sarcastic admonishment and even managed to mostly suppress a twinge of sympathy at the girl's sudden somber sincerity. Yes, Meg was just that stubborn. Mali was right, any decently moral human being would feel the same way, but Meg wanted to do everything in her power to make the girl not right somehow. "I've no idea what you want me to do then. Remember it and just get over it? Sure. Easy. Absolutely." Meg's own voice was soaked in sarcasm now.
They were doing most of the same things to each other, actually. Sassing one another, trying to prove everything the other person said to be wrong. Meg refused to acknowledge the similarities she had with this girl, because keeping her as an other made her so much easier to dislike. If she was an other, there was a fundamental difference between them, and Meg didn't have to even acknowledge the things she said - so she thought, anyway. She wouldn't acknowledge them, but she would argue. "I'm not a brat." Exactly what a brat would say. "And I'm not stubborn. You won't bloody listen to me so I just have to keep repeating myself! I don't want to get along with you, I don't want to talk to you, and I promise you Theo's not crying himself to sleep every night because his sister doesn't like his stupid girlfriend."
Meg was so, so done with this...this being about her and her brother and his girlfriend, anyway. The werewolves were a different story. She so badly wanted to help her coworkers, to be there for them, that she would look for that help even from little prats like Mali. Calling her a prat wasn't fair, she was actually saying a lot of things now that Meg agreed with...but, well, Meg was stubborn. And bitter. And scared to let anyone near the people she felt so protective over. "There's a lot more evidence for an illegal brewing operation than there is for the fact that I may or may not have known something about my coworkers monthly habits. I can play dumb pretty well." She looked pointedly at Mali. "Are you even covering your trail?"
The whole operation sounded too sketchy to Meg...but she couldn't help but be interested. Maybe she could mull it over, talk with her coworkers, see what they thought. Rash decisions weren't going to help anyone; nor were false hopes. "No, I don't need any help," Meg repeated herself, shaking her head. "I'll figure it out. We'll figure it out, me and them. They're not completely helpless, you know."

Mali wasn't exactly friendly but Meg was just plain unkind. Never one to hide her emotions, her face sunk into an injured frown as the blonde witch went on her little rant. The word 'stupid' struck a particularly insecure nerve that managed to sap all the previously found confidence out of her and put her right back into the drawn in, cross armed stance. She didn't even argue with Meg that her little tirade exactly proved how stubborn she was, Mali just let her talk while both crumpling and seething just beneath the surface.
As much as she wanted to reach Meg, Mali was finding the woman exasperating. Not many people could eat through her patience like Meg had and she wasn't equipped to deal with it. There were sarcastic remarks on the tip of her tongue but she managed to choke them down 'til Meg's question hit the absolute wrong edge. Mali nearly snapped but instead fixed Meg with the iciest stare she had. "You really do think I'm stupid, don't you? Of bloody course I cover my tracks, why d'you think I work for the Ministry now? You think I fancy spending my time working under tyrants?"
Nope. She snapped. All the way. "Oh, you don't need help, do you?" Meg couldn't really be thick enough to think that. "When I see that people need help I don't sit around twiddling my thumbs while ensuring them that I'll eventually think of something, like you are. I get up off my arse and do something about it. I help them, and I wouldn't sit there and reject help over stupid, selfish pride!" There was no taming her temper now, Meg had pushed on her too long and as far as Mali was concerned she deserved every bit of her anger and bite. "And you can play dumb all you'd like -- although I'm so not sure you're actually playing-- but the fact of the matter is the Ministry knows there are werewolves there. They're not going to buy that someone who went and befriended every single one of them had absolutely no idea that they were wolves." Couldn't Meg see that!? "Even if they could believe it they wouldn't care. They'll arrest you anyway. That's how the Ministry is working now and you're bloody slower than a flobberworm if you can't see that."
She was done now, so so done. Mali could throw tantrums with the best of them. "But you know what? That's bloody fine. II'm done with you treating me like rubbish. You go and find your own ingredients. Brew your own bloody potion. Pay for it yourself. I'm done practically begging for you to allow me to give your friends the help that they need but you're too obstinate to admit. And when those Enforcers come to haul you away for questioning and lock your friends in Azkaban at least I can tell Theo I tried. I'll feel sorry for them but it'll bloody serve you right." With that Mali turned away from Meg and stomped towards the door, stopping only to knock the basket of muffins back off the table. It was childish for sure but it did oodles to make her feel better, so did slamming the door behind her.
