Mali was very good with children when she could eventually give them back. They were normally smitten by her friendly, soft demeanor and the fact that she freely doled out sweets. When they were left in her care for an extended period of time it gradually became obvious that she was a childless twenty something who quite enjoyed being childless very much, thanks. The Lupin Twins had been with her for several days now and while it started out with games and fairytales and homemade rice crispy treats, the pair of them eventually began to push boundaries. Maybe it was all the sugar she'd been plying them with out of sympathy or maybe it was their way of coping with the uncertainty of their missing father. ('He took his students on a really long field trip' didn't seem to be an adequate answer for two precocious tykes. )
In an attempt to curb a disaster before it happened, Mali packed up the children and moved the whole party to camp out at her dad's place. They were gone on holiday (again) and the twins had attempted to paint one of the cats and the fabulous faction of felines didn't really have much patience for that sort of thing but they DID have sharp claws. The move was truly for the best, Remus would never forgive her if she damaged his children prior to return. Plus, her dads had a bigger telly and cable, so it was like their house was practically begging to be taken over by two tots and their novice babysitter.
And novice she definitely was. She fell asleep on the job, leaving the children unattended. Mali woke to a beautiful permanent marker mustache and eyebrows which she spent several minutes scrubbing off in the bathroom. When she emerged, there were no children in sight. This was a very, very bad thing. Mali looked high and low for the adorable little beasties. Under the couch, all over the second floor, in cabinets and cupboards but there was no sign of them. The witch paused her search to answer a knock at the door. The poor girl looked frazzled by the time she pulled open the door, finding her very handsome troll on the other side. "Theo!" she cried in relief as she flung her arms around the tall Medi-Wizard. "Theo! I've lost the children!"
There was the puttering of little feet and giggles behind her, Mali whipped around to find nothing but air and a slumbering Niffler on the couch. "Hippogriffs." She shook her head and sighed while running a hand through frizzed hair. "I--They're just.. They were...Are we absolutely certain they can't do magic?" They were Remus' children after all, if any little tyke would learn from an early age it was them. Suddenly, there was a crash from the kitchen.

Theo, perhaps surprisingly to some (or most), wasn't actually all that terrible with children. That came with some serious caveats, though. Like Mali, he had the problem of being very good with them as long as it wasn't for too long and he got to give them back in the end. As a child, he was more than happy to boss around baby Meg and a never-ending cadre of baby cousins, as long as Jon did most of the dirty work and Dad or an aunt or uncle stepped back in at some point. As Theo grew, he was still happy to babysit the still never-ending cadre of cousins and second cousins. Kids didn't care so much about his emotional outbursts or awkward jokes, because when he sprang up one summer to the size of a troll, he made a pretty good jungle gym to climb all over.
This, though...this was on a whole other level. Mister Lupin's kids were pretty obviously missing their dad, and no one knew when he would be home. The twins were increasingly becoming harder to handle, adorable as they were. Mali, poor Mali...she was an angel. In all honesty neither one of them knew at all what they were doing, but Theo considered Mali all-around more capable at this life thing, so he stepped back and just tried to support her the best he could. Tonight, he was loaded down with boxes of pizza (from Mali's favorite place, which Theo had visited several times since his first taste of the stuff at her house) and an intent to snuggle their exhaustion away, should the Lupin twins ever decide to sleep again.
He knocked on the door to her parent's house and was greeted with a very frazzled looking Mali. He held the pizza above her head when she wrapped around him, and used his free hand to hug her back. He kept an arm around her as she explained her situation. "What do you mean, you've lost them?" He looked at her quizzically, not quite understanding. Like...lost control? They ran away?
Theo was looking down at Mali when two blurs ran through his field of vision - by the time he looked up and Mali whipped around, they were gone. Theo grinned, squeezing Mali's shoulder. "Look, you found them!" As long as they were in the house and not running halfway across London, Theo wasn't too worried about wrangling the twins. It would be exhausting, but he did have a secret weapon. "Probably. But I know I've got magic." He shook the pizza boxes and edged into the house, closing the door behind him as a crash rang out from the kitchen. His grin dropped then. Exhausting. He sighed and headed for the kitchen. "I swear, if they've inherited your Apparating skills...".

The Lupin Twins didn't take the cake for the most tragic childhood in Wizarding history (no one would ever unseat Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter from tthat shared title) but did have it pretty rough. A (very loving) father who routinely transforms into a terrifying beast, losing their mother and growing up with a ring side seat for political unrest and the black chaos that Death Eaters brought couldn't be easy. For the most part they were darling, charming children and while frustrating, it was easy to understand their misbehavior. Mali wasn't mad, she wouldn't scold them too harshly but she needed them found.
Theo was perfect for showing up exactly when she needed him with exactly what she needed. Pizza, bless the man. Her stomach rumbled the moment the delicious aroma reached her nose and she hugged him a little more tightly. How did she get so lucky? "I fell asleep for a minute. Only one, I swear. And then when I woke up they'd drawn on my face so I went to wash it off and now they're gone." she explained, desperately pleading her case that her little mid-sitting nap wasn't really a big deal. They had to be in the house. Merlin, please let them be in the house. It was like someone somewhere saw fit to answer her internal plea and the twins scampered through the room so quick she didn't even see them. Mali wasn't feeling up for much joking (there would be lots of jokes and witty teases once the children were secure...) and was frowning when she looked back at Theo. At least they had a general idea of where the two had gone. They'd gone 'that way' but there was a lot of house 'that way' for them to hide in. Theo's brand of magic coaxed that frown into half a grin. "The best sort've magic." The fastest way to Mali's heart was through her stomach and that was proving true for a lot of things, hopefully the pizza would coax the children out. "Did you get the kind with pineapple?" If that didn't draw them out then nothing would.
Mali seized up at the crash, going absolutely rigid. "Hippogriffs, the kitchen!" There was a lot two mischievous little ones could get into there. Like her dads' under the counter wine cellar that two very stressed adults might have to get into if they survived until bed time. Mali was new to the world of adult beverages but she could appreciate a glass of wine after a long, stressful day of babysitting. Mali took (mostly) mock offense to Theo's statement as they headed off to investigate. "I apparated them fully intact to my house, thanks very much! It was no easy feat, either. They're very squirmy little things." They were met with... nothing out of the ordinary, except the coffee maker had been knocked off the counter. "Nooooo!" Mali lamented dramatically as she withdrew her wand. "Not the coffee!" She enjoyed a good cup of tea, but nothing compared to the caffeine boost or the taste of a fancy coffee (although she'd settle for a regular brewed cup in a pinch.)
With a flick of her wand and a mutter of "Reparo!" the coffee machine was repaired and back on the counter, leaving them to search for the children. "You search the high cupboard and i'll search the low ones?" Mali asked as she relieved Theo of his pizza boxes to set on the island counter. "Summoning doesn't work on children, I tried that." It didn't work on Nifflers, either. The witch set to work, searching each bottom cabinet thoroughly 'til she opened one of the doors and got a face full of powdered creamer. She squealed and fell back on her bum, coughing and fanning away the powder cloud. With a giggle the offending twin darted right past her, free to wreak havoc on the rest of the house.

Theo was trying his very best not to laugh at Mali's unfortunate tale, because she looked rather serious at the moment. And he wasn't really laughing at her, really. It was just kind of unbearably adorable that she took catnaps, and he had to know..."What did they draw on your face?" He hoped it was a mustache. He looked at her trying not to look like he was really looking, but she'd done a good job washing it all off. He eventually got a little smile out of her - or the pizza did, rather, that darn Hufflepuff. "Of course!" Pineapple pizza had changed his life, surely no child could resist.
Theo trailed Mali to the kitchen, his worry over what could possibly make such a loud crashing sound just slightly outweighing his need to tease his girlfriend. "Fair enough." Mali had responded rather brilliantly to this whole mess, it suddenly dawned on Theo. There she sat thinking she couldn't handle any emergencies - but what else could they call this? Taking in two kids who suddenly had no guardian? That took guts. The thought left a happy warm streak through Theo's chest, combined with watching Mali effortlessly fix the broken coffee maker they came upon. She really was bloody clever, her only problem being she didn't think that herself. Theo took up that job and he took it very seriously. "Got it, captain," Theo nodded and started opening up cabinets.
Cups, plates, breakfast cereals...but no children. Mali's squeal caused Theo to jump and his moment of hesitation was fatal. The cabinet next to the one he'd just opened swung open and out popped a little pink-haired demon, swinging and leaping and with nowhere to possibly go except right on top of Theo as she jumped out of the cabinet. Theo caught Lily and as soon as she had balance again she scrambled her way up to his shoulders. Human. Jungle gym. Theo shook his head, hair full of little grabby hands, and laughed, grabbing the girl's feet so she would at least have to struggle to get loose. "Look, I caught one!" Theo spun around to find Mali on the floor. He knelt down without thinking to give her a hand up, and off Lily went after her brother. Theo sighed and shouted after them, "Pizza!", before looking back at Mali with a measured look. "What's on your face now?"

Mali had to press her lips together not to laugh along, because Theo was a big lovable guy with a face that made you want to laugh along with him. She crossed her arms over her chest instead, dropping her shoulders into a slump as if she could fold in the giggles before they escaped. "Oh.." His very hard not-looking made her a little self conscious and she touched the space above her upper lip. "Oh, erm.. It was a mustache and some really angry eyebrows... Thick slanty ones, looked like I was plotting world domination or something." Mali moved to rubbing at her forehead. "Can you still see it? Have I gotten it all off?" When Theo confirmed that he indeed that not only was he the hero of the hour, but he'd brought the best kind of pizza along the witch pushed up on her tiptoes, forgetting all self consciousness about her phantom eyebrows and mustache to plant a kiss on his cheek. "You're my hero."
A hero who took orders. 'Captain' made her gigglesnort. "Don't you mean aye aye?" Her snark was met with a face full of powdered creamer as her own little wiggle child ran off. Mali grabbed for the little bugger, coughing through a haze of white powder but missed the tyke and he ran off, soon to be followed by his sister, the little rascals. Theo helped her up and called to the retreating kids, getting only retreating giggles in return. "Thank you, first mate Theo." His chivalry earned him another quick kiss, this time on the lips which left a smudge of white powder. "Same thing that's on you, now." she grinned, wiping it away with her thumb before searching a kitchen drawer for a towel. "S'coffee creamer. Should we run after them? Or are children like stray cats? They'll come back when they get hungry enough?" After cleaning the creamer off she leaned back against the counter, crossed her arms and eyed the pizza boxes. "I'm hungry and they've existed on nothing but sweets all day, surely the smell of the pizza'll lure them out?"
As captain of this mission, Mali determined that was exactly what they'd do. "Sit down at the table, I'll get plates." With that she set to pulling four flowery plates from the cabinet, setting two aside for when the scamps decided to come back. There was a crash upstairs above them and she paused, gaze shifting up to the ceiling and ears straining to listen. There was one more crash and Mali put the plates down and dashed from the kitchen with urgency, deciding it was too risky to leave the children unattended in a home full of old books and antiques, especially when a child's wail carried down the stairs and into the kitchen.

It was too much - imagining Mali with angry, world-domination eyebrows made Theo laugh. He tapped the same places Mali rubbed at with his finger. "All gone, no worries. Though I'm rather sad I missed it." As long as the two little scamps currently wreaking havoc on her dads' house stuck around, he was sure he would see more of their face art. Probably on himself. He made just as good of a coloring book as he did a jungle gym, as it turned out. And a pizza-bearing hero, to boot. He reveled in the way Mali's kisses still made his skin tingle as he followed her into the kitchen and into certain danger.
Theo only managed to sneak in an, "Aye," and a mischievous grin Mali's way before they were under attack by two little gremlins. They would've won half that battle, at least, had Theo managed to keep his head in the game - but as soon as he leaned down to help Mali, his captured twin was gone. Ah, well. He got another kiss out of it and that made it all rather worthwhile, despite the scary noises coming from above them. "S'not very good, without the coffee." Theo licked away the traces of creamer Mali didn't wipe away, and then flicked his eyes to the ceiling. "I bet if we threatened them with bedtime, they'd get very hungry. Or a bath." Also kind of like stray cats, in a way.
Either way, Mali was hungry, so they were going to eat. Theo wordlessly followed orders and sat down gratefully - his stomach had been grumbling since he'd picked the pizzas up from the shop. He winced at the sudden crashes from up above and jumped back out of his chair, dashing after Mali up the stairs. There on the landing, both twins were finally in plain view - along with an askew side table, and the pieces of a vase shattered on the rug. Lily was hovering palely over her brother, who was clutching his chin and the definite source of all the wailing. Theo shot a look at Mali. "Healer Johar, I believe this is your specialty now, isn't it?" Magical children injuring themselves - Mali probably knew the ins and outs of it by now. And she was better with kids in general. Theo was more than happy to take the role of her assistant.

"They're fast little devils." Mali felt the need to defend her cat nap again, now that they were talking about what the twins drew on the canvas that was her face. "I swear I'd only just fallen asleep. It was only a moment. Three minutes tops!" She rubbed and rubbed but Theo tapped it with his finger and assured her it was gone. The corners of her lips curled up in a smile and she laughed. "It's for the better. I don't think you could pull the eyebrows off like I did." The witch reached up to trace said eyebrows out over one of Theo's eyes. The beautiful, soulful eyes. They were her favorite eyes in the whole wide world (Furry creatues excluded because no one could beat actual puppy dog eyes) "You would have only gotten jealous that you couldn't have them." As Mali led Theo into the kitchen she looked back over her shoulder to stick out her tongue at him before laughing.
Chivalry beat twin capturing any day. It gave her an excuse to sneak in a quick peck. Every kiss felt just as good as the first time. It had been months.. Nearly a year, hadn't it? And the thrill of Theo's lips had yet to wear off and she hoped it never did. "No, it's not." She shook her head in agreement. "Good thing I fixed the coffee machine, isn't it?" Theo suggested bed and bath time for the twins and Mali groaned and slumped back against the counter. "Have you tried to wrestle them into pajamas before? They turn into little octopuses. I swear all their bones turned to jelly because they used impossible contortion tricks to get away from me." Mali looked back up at Theo, looking every bit as exasperated by the whole babysitting ordeal as she felt. "Did we want kids, Theo? Because I don't want kids right now. I want wine. My dads have wine." She didn't even really like wine but that's what her dad's used to drink to 'unwind' and Mali could certainly do with some unwinding.
Or pizza. They decided they would eat pizza. Probably best to leave the alcohol 'til after the kids were in bed (or stunned.) They nearly got to indulge in the pizza but the scamps were at it again. It was a terrible choice to let them get out of their sight and they paid for it. The adults were off and running to find the pair of children with a broken vase and an injured little boy. "Mm.." Mali stepped forward and crouched down to Teddy's eye level. "Shh, it's alright. Let me see." The Healer coaxed the poor child's hands away from his chin before gently taking it in her hand. She tilted the boy's chin up so she could examine it. Mali's heart dropped a little when she saw the damage, a bruise forming on the little boy's chin. Remus was in Azkaban and she let his children damage themselves. Not to worry, she kept a steady, serene smile and spoke sweetly despite how terrible she felt over the whole thing. "You know what? You did more damage to the vase than it did to you. It must be your hard head, mm? Not to worry, we can fix it but I'll need your help to do it, alright?"
Mali withdrew her wand again and held her hand out for Lily. "I'll need your help too, LJ. We're going to do magic." She shifted to her knees and brought Lily closer. "Now when I say so we'll all have to say 'Reparo'. Nice and loud. Let's practice. Reparo! Alright? Now let's all hold the wand." The witch held the instrument out so each child could put a hand over hers. Together the three of gave the wand a shaky swish and "One, two, three! Reparo!" Their chorus of incantations were out of sync but the vase pieced itself back together and in just a moment it was good as new. "Would you look at that! Good as new!"

"Funny, you just said it was one minute, one minute ago," Theo raised one of his heavy-but-not-quite-world-dominating eyebrows at Mali, meeting her smile. He knew she wouldn't actually endanger any children, but he couldn't resist the opportunity to tease her. Because she sure as heck couldn't resist teasing him, either. He rolled his eyes up as if he could watch her trace thick, slanty eyebrows on his heavy brow, and then looked back down at her with a grin. "You're right. I actually am a little jealous, still. I mean, what the heck am I going to do with these?" He waved a disdainful hand in the direction of his brows.
Theo stuck his tongue back out at Mali as she led him to the kitchen, making him wonder who the children really were in this house, and the thought making him laugh. Clearly, they were the adults, because they got to kiss. And they got to drink coffee, with creamer in it, because Mali could do magic and she fixed the coffee maker. Alas, adults had to do other, less fun things too - like try to wrangle the kids into bed. Theo laughed at the image of Mali and two very slippery little pajama-laden squids, but his laughter died once he realized he would be a part of that image, too. Then he sighed. Then Mali asked him a question and Theo's eyes ticked down to her from where they were watching the ceiling for noise. The question was more out of exasperation than anything, but it still warmed Theo on the inside, just the thought of it. Of a future with Mali. But no, definitely not right now. Theo shook his head in agreement, his eyebrows shooting up at her alternative suggestion. "Whenever we have kids, let's just have one baby at a time." As if they could really control that. "And a very long time from now. But tonight, wine. Lots of wine." Especially if they had to get octopuses into pajamas first.
They almost got pizza beforehand - you know, for strength - but then there was a crash and the two of them went running up the stairs. The damage didn't look catastrophic, but when you were a kid, everything was catastrophic. Theo remembered feeling that way, at least, and the feeling still sneaked up on him every now and then. Theo watched with a thoughtful smile as Mali took over, happy to see the damage to Teddy's face was nothing more than a bruise. Theo added a little bass to the trio's incantation, murmuring the word behind them, and the spell went off without a hitch. Theo clapped, and then announced to the hallway, "And you know what clever witches and wizards eat? Pizza!"

Mali was caught on to her little fib that it had only been a minute. It was a handful of minutes, maybe as much as thirty if she were brutally honest but even the most energetic witch in the world had to crash after a couple days of looking after a pair of children with an infinite amount of energy and the ability to change their appearance at will. The crash was bound to happen and all said and done, the damage wasn't too bad although Mali would feel a lot better once the children were corralled. "Dunno." She teased through a snicker and a grin as Theo drew attention to his own naturally heavy brow (no magic marker needed) "Not world domination, that's for sure. Maybe start small? Dominate something on a smaller scale? Like... A park."
A future with Theo was sort of still a touchy subject. They had their dog but had decided that it was better if they don't live together just yet. Still, playing house with Theo while watching the Littlest Lupins did stir up some very strong feelings in that regard. Mali always knew that she wanted a future with Theo, but what and when was questionable. "I don't think that's necessarily up to you or me." Mali shrugged at Theo's one child at a time suggestion. "I'm pretty sure it just sort've happens that way? Or maybe there's some spell. I haven't put much thought into it, myself." Theo agreed that tonight, there would be lots of wine although he punctuated that with a raise of his adorably heavy brow. "Don't look at me like that. Which wine goes best with pizza? I'd think red because pizza sauce is red." To her wine-novice brain that made the most sense. Maybe the better question was which wine went best with troll snuggles, because obviously they had to feed the children before putting them to bed and imbibing in the wine.
The four of them, two little ones, a medium one and a large one turned into a spell casting quarter. Together they managed to charm a broken vase right back together. Mali clapped enthusiastically along with Theo before placing the vase back on the table and tacking on her own chime of "Pizza!" to Theo's statement. The children were ushered into the kitchen and fed to satisfaction before they were readied for bed and tucked in which left the grown ups down in the kitchen preparing for wine fueled snuggles.
Mali eyed the wine glasses that hung from a rack above her head. Her average sized parents did not take into consideration the ease of access for their shorter daughter to pilfer wine from their collection. She could likely reach the glasses on the tip of her toes but Mali liked when Theo reached the high things for her. After tilting her head up to look up at them she turned to Theo "Mind? I'll get the bottles if you get the glasses?"

"Theo Park. Got a nice ring to it." Theo managed to sneak in a wink before they were off racing after the children, losing them in the kitchen right as they found them, Theo maybe the tiniest bit distracted as he considered his reign over Theo Park. And a lot more distracted by Mali, specifically her kisses and talking about a future with her. Right now really wasn't the opportune time for either of those things...but when did that ever stop them? "Me either," he agreed quickly, strangely eager to show just how not-ready he was for children or even thinking about them. The last time they'd talked about all this hadn't gone very smoothly and Theo was aiming for cuddles tonight, not arguments. It could be considered more in-depth at another time, when there wasn't a whole wine cellar waiting to be ravished by them. Speaking of wine...Theo laughed at Mali's reasoning, shrugging his shoulders. "That sounds about right to me." He was more of a beer man, but also a never-say-no-to-alcohol man.
Through some sort of divine intervention, the time for wine and cuddles came a lot sooner than he had expected. Mali patched up the children and they worked together to get them both fed and put in bed in record time. Back in the kitchen, Theo munched on one more slice of pizza and watched Mali with amusement as she considered how she was going to get the high-up wine glasses down. He liked to make her work for it. "That little thing you always do with your head; that's cute," he said, grinning as he walked over after she'd asked for his help. He mimicked the little head tilt she did when she wanted something from him, looking back and forth between her and the wine glasses a couple of times before pulling down two of them and setting them on the counter. He leaned back next to them and waited for the wine. "So, what have you decided we're drinking tonight? You know I've got a pretty fancy taste," he teased.
