Celebration. Today was a day of celebration. All the dark shadows that haunted her past were gone, in one fell swoop. One well orchestrated Ministry raid (bloody time they'd gotten their act together, if you asked her.) took out a good number of Death Eaters and Death Eater sympathizers. They weren't all gone, of course. Death Eaters were like a caner... You think you cut out all the diseased tissue but in time it would start spreading and replicating again. Mali was too happy to think about that, because all the important Death Eaters were gone. At least, the ones important to her.
She whisked herself away to The Homestead the moment she laid eyes on the names in The Prophet article. The witch banged on the door with enthusiasm, the prophet clutched firmly in her other hand. "Theo!" She called through the door, too eager to see the relief on his face to wait long for someone to answer. Happy energy tingled all through her and she worked it out by bouncing excitedly on the tips of her toes. It felt far too good to be true, so Mali had to skim through the words once more to make sure she read it absolutely right while she waited, that there wasn't something hiding behind the ink like some terribly cruel joke. With every read through it became clearer than before.. They were free.
Once her handsome Troll made it to the door she beamed at him. For the first time in over a year there was nothing in the edges of the smile, no hesitation or dread or sadness. "They're gone!" Gone. Forever. "The Death Eaters. One of them is dead, one of them is in Azkaban." Both were as good as dead, Azkaban was a terrible place and the man would rot there. It was a terrible place for people like Remus and Mister Potter and Luna, but a perfect place for the bloody git who hurt them. The man who had haunted their nightmares. Locked up in the most secure wizarding prison there was. Mali had to read the words one more time for good measure before she handed the Prophet over to Theo to read. The article was short and to the point. A Ministry raid on a shoppe marked out of business in Bexley resulted in the death of several notable Death Eaters, including Li Yue Jiang and the arrest of several more, including Keegan Kearney.
"We've got to celebrate, yeah? Let's go drink or something." Mali said as she reached for Theo's hand. "Drink for Mister Fischer and Mister Longbottom. This is the closest thing to justice they can get, isn't it?" It was the start of a new chapter for them, Theo and Mali never got a chance to be in love without having to look over each other's shoulders and fear what could be lurking in the dark shadowy corners. Mali could kiss Theo goodbye without worrying that someone wicked would come in the night and steal him away from her. The witched laced her fingers with his, tilting her head back to look up at him. "I'll buy the first round of butterbeer.. Or we could stay in and read the article again?" She paused, catching her lower lip between her teeth in a moment of anxiety. As a true Hufflepuff Mali worried about the morality of being relieved at someone's demise. "Is it terrible that someone dying makes me so unbelievably happy? But maybe she's found a bit of peace, you think? I'm sure something terrible must've happened to make her so nasty, so she's at peace so that's better..."
